Beautiful! The staff were very kind. I attended a Sunday service. It was moving and sacred. The organ and choir sounded good. It was a highlight of my trip.

Fab night out in Lichfield cathedral
My only bug bear is in the second half people was allowed to get near the stage , great for the kids they had the best night, dancing and singing
But when you get a group of 5 '10 women doing the same, blocking the view , just not the same 😂😂😂
In the end couldn't see a thing so had to get up and join them 😂
Lovely night 9.5/10

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 – history, candles, floating moons, and “is this real life?” moments)

Lichfield Cathedral is not just a cathedral… it’s basically a place where normal reality politely steps aside and says, “we’re doing something magical today.”

I’ve been here a lot — with my mum, my dad, the kids, and even on my own pretending I’m having a peaceful cultural moment (I’m not, I’m usually just looking up at things in confusion).

And every single time… something different is happening.

One visit?
🎄 Completely filled with Christmas trees. Not a few. Not tasteful. I mean loads. Like the cathedral woke up and said, “we are now a festive forest.”

Another time?
🌙 There was a giant moon hanging from the ceiling.
Just… suspended. Existing. No explanation.
And everyone’s just walking around like this is perfectly normal behaviour for a historic building.

Then the candlelight events…

🕯️ Absolutely stunning. Proper magical atmosphere — soft light, quiet, peaceful… the kind of place where you suddenly feel like you should whisper, even if you’re just asking where the exit is.

Online reviews constantly talk about how beautiful and atmospheric the cathedral is — people love the stunning architecture, the peaceful feeling, and the events they put on throughout the year. And honestly, that’s exactly it… but no one fully prepares you for the random moments of: “Why is there a moon above me?”
“Why am I in a forest indoors?”
“Is this a cathedral or an art installation?”

The history here is incredible too — you can feel it. Proper old, proper impressive, the kind of place that makes you stand there and think: “Wow… this has seen things.”

Meanwhile I’m just trying to process seasonal décor choices.

The best part is I’ve been with everyone:

Mum = appreciating the beauty

Dad = quietly taking it all in

Kids = half amazed, half running on chaos

Me = emotionally processing ceiling moons

And somehow it works for all of us.

---

Overall vibe:
⛪ “Ancient, beautiful cathedral that occasionally turns into a magical experience with unexpected décor choices”

---

Final verdict:
Absolutely stunning, full of history, and always doing something interesting — whether that’s candlelight, Christmas trees, or casually hanging a moon indoors.

Would I go again?
Always.

Would I question anything I see there anymore?
No. I’ve accepted it 😄

Amazing cathedral but enjoyment spoiled by somebody engaging in loud rock drumming in preparation for evening event. I appreciate that they are under pressure to raise money where they can but they didn't get a donation from us
