We have enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the "Alpine Lodge" at the O.G.H. We were unable to go on the original date as I was ill and so was my Son-in-Law, but the Hotel and Staff were very helpful and arranged another date. We would recommend this venue to anyone who wants something different. Many thanks.

My wife and I fancied a long weekend away in Guernsey and as we were travelling out of season thought it a good idea to stay neat St Peter Port as there is more to do there this time of year. Liked the look of the OGH and it was certainly a very good decision. The whole stay, as previous reviewers have stated, was very enjoyable and you constantly have the feeling of being well looked after. From the interior of the hotel, both rooms and common areas, to the high quality of service by the staff it was excellent. OK, the layout of some of the floors is a little unusual and takes a few try's to navigate, but it is more than compensated for by the lounge areas with open fires, the friendly bars and the variety of food in the restaurants. I particularly enjoyed the Curry Room where it the unusual menu was far removed from the normal UK curry restaurants we are used to. I cannot praise the hotel management and staff too highly and if you want an old fashioned indulgent break try this place out.

A feeling of being indulged pervades you as you walk through the door.

Excellent warm welcome. This place is very unassuming but once you step inside you know you are in for a treat.

We had a beautiful stay. I've left my shaving brush behind by mistake and we shall see how this is dealt with.

We will be back for a longer stay as soon as funds allow!!

Very nice hotel convenient location, excellent staff, lovely breakfast, disappointing evening meal. Unable to understand why the staff recommend restaurants in town rather than their own restaurant. The Spa area badly needs refurbishing.

We returned to this restaurant as our last experience was so enjoyable and as our ferry had been cancelled we thought we would take advantage of our extra time in Guernsey! We had a wonderful last evening made extra special by the tasty food excellent wine and the impeccable service. We took advantage of the Tennerfest the quality of the food was perfect and cheaper than usual thank you for a fantastic evening!

OGH positions itself as your 'home from home' and it genuinely is. You are recognised when you come to stay and nothing is too much trouble.

The premier hotel on Guernsey without a doubt. With excellent little touches throughout your stay (welcome drinks, personalised welcome & leaving cards, tour of the hotel). Oh and the chocolates/sweets!

My wife and I went back to the OGH 26 years after our first visit - which was absolutely amazing. I promised to take her back and hoped not to be disappointed. I wasn't. The staff and service were excellent, they couldn't do enough for you. The food was absolutely scrumptious. The choice for breakfast was great, from fresh fruit (strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrant, blueberries....), to salmon/kippers, to sweet potato rosti & butternut squash pancakes and the full English, all served with elegance and style.

The hotel is located in St Peter Port, just up the hill a little way from the quayside. It is easy to get anywhere in the main town from. If you wanted a posh location to explore Guernsey from you simply couldn't do better.

My first stay at the venerable OGH did not disappoint. Outside London, the five star epithet can be a misnomer. But, happily, not in the case of the OGH. Its up there with the best hotels I’ve had the privilege to stay at (Claridges, The Langham, Cafe Royal et al)

Nelly on reception was totally charming When we left I wanted to give her a big hug. She had such a lovely manner. In fact, this charming demeanour permitted itself right through the hotel from the tall, Restaurant Manager (who was totally ‘on it’, making sure all his diners were served in a timely fashion), the maintenance guy who came immediately to fix my light switch, to the valet parking guys.

My room (301) was lovely. We (all three rooms we had as a group) did have minor trouble getting the aircon to do its thing. 21 was slightly too chilly whereas its a default, comfortable room temperature. Sky Sports etc on the TV, which is unusual.

Food was superb. Full English breakfast was top class. The in-hotel Indian restaurant is fantastic (booking recommended) and with the £50 per room food & beverage credit we got for booking direct via their website meant it was virtually a free meal.

Location is great; just a short stroll to the high street. Bit hilly coming back up but doable (and I’m notoriously lazy).

The weather wasn’t conducive to using the outdoor swimming pool, but I’d love to come back in the summer months.

So, if you are a luxury hotel nut like me or just fancy a splurge, hop on a plane to the OGH. You won’t be disappointed.

The hotel is a classic building. Perhaps it was actually a Government House once. It has marbled floors and pillars at the entrance, wooden panels and has a real period feel. The rooms are very pleasantly decorated in a period style, bathroom highly contemporary and immaculate. Mine had both bathtub and shower. Great that not only does it have tea and coffee in the room, it has ground coffee and a cafetiere to prepare it in. Top points for that - it is so rare to have more than instant. Full breakfast was pleasantly modest and well prepared, Delighted that it included traditional black pudding. Would have been nice, though if good quality wholemeal bread had also been provided. Breakfast tables, especially centrally by the window, have a fabulous view over the bay, Herm and Jethou.

I'm not sure when I last stayed at a true five star rated hotel, but as we'd only planned to stay one night in Guernsey, we splashed out. The buildings themselves seem to span a wide area, including three restaurants, a spa and gym, and lots of rooms of varying sizes and costs. Ours had a sort of indoor balcony, which overlooked the sea, a small but very plush bathroom and an excellent bed. Everything was luxurious, in the room and throughout the building, and we made the most of our time there, visiting the spa (two jacuzzis, sauna and steamroom) and the indian restaurant for lunch on the day we left.

The staff parked my car for me in the hotels garage and were very helpful and friendly throughout. Breakfast was another luxurious affair, with all manner of fruit and juices, breads, cereals and a perfectly cooked breakfast with lots of other options available - my wife had crushed avocado and egg toast. Everything was fresh, full of flavour and top quality.

Perfect for a special occasion - not cheap, but it was true five star luxury from start to finish. An excellent location just up the hill from the port, affording us our balcony view over the sea.
