We stayed a week in the hotel and had a lovely holiday in Guernsey. It is an exceptionally well run hotel .Clean comfortable with friendly efficient staff . Excellent breakfasts. I am probably doing the hotel a disservice by giving it a three star as the location is superb with a short walk downhill to the bay. The problem for us was we stayed in the venue which is an annex to the hotel to cater for weddings and functions. The uphill walk to get there is not too much trouble - it is through very well maintained gardens. We stayed when a function was on. Our bedroom was above the function room. The noise was awful in our bedroom going on well after midnight - va doom, va doom va doom! you know what i mean. Only one night, but enough to take the edge of what was a pleasant stay. So, I would recommend the hotel but would not recommend the annex rooms .

We were invited to accompany our inlaws to Guernsey to celebrate their Ruby wedding at the hotel. That meant we did not do our usual research on hotels available so booked somewhat blindly after a quick look on the hotels own website.
On arrival we were allocated Room 32 which was great. Top floor of the main hotel, large balcony looking down the Fermain Valley to the sea. Decent size room with lots of nice touches such as, fudge, water (replenished), slippers, dressing gowns and fruit. However as mentioned in other reviews, fridge did not work, nor did bathroom extractor fan. We did not report them to be fair.
Hotel is in a wonderful position in a quiet location. This is however down a very narrow lane which can be trciky if you meet another vehicle. After one trip down we decided to park at the Venue off the main road and walk down through the landscaped gardens.
Food was good although the evening choice was a little limited. We were a little disappointed with some dining room staff members attitude if we asked to sit at a table of our choice, rather than the one they had allocated. Sulky looks and service without a smile. Grow up please.
Overall a great experience and a wonderful island to explore. It reminded us of Cornwall/Devon about 40 years ago.
Happy to come back to this hotel if we return.

We have just returned from a short three day stay.
The hotel was just as we expected, the rooms were lovely, with free water, fruit and sherry in the room.
The food was excellent and presented lovely.
Both female receptionists were very polite and helpful, however, when I mentioned to the male receptionist that we had been awake since 5.45am due to the noise from the people in the room above us banging and moving furniture around, his reply was, it was normal to be active at that time as there was always a hive of activity in the hotel at this hour of the day.
I was very surprised by his response and this would prevent us from returning to this hotel in the
future, this is not a reflection of the quality of the hotel, just the noise that prevented us from waking at a normal time in the morning.
I would have loved to have returned to this hotel, but we will look at another venue next time we stay.

Just back from our first ever stay in Guernsey. We booked 4 days at Fermain, 3 days at the sister hotel in Alderney (Braye Beach) and then back to Guernsey at a different hotel. We had a totally wonderful stay, and have no complaints at all.

The piece de resistance is where the Fermain Valley Hotel is situated, at the top of a very steep hill, but with beautiful views down to the Fermain Bay. We had a Gold Room, with a balcony with table & chairs where we sat and enjoyed this wonderful view. The room itself was very clean, tastefully decorated, with the complimentary fruit & sherry as advertised. There was also a fridge, with complimentary bottled water, and ample supplies of tea, coffee and biscuits. The bathroom was beautiful, with loads of Elemis toiletries. We felt very spoilt. All the staff, without fail, were polite. A lot of Eastern Europeans in the restaurant, who were all very helpful and hard working. On checking out, there was a minor issue with our bill, however this was dealt with appropriately and as we do not "sweat the small stuff", we do not feel the need to berate the hotel for this minor error.

The food was lovely, breakfast in particular. My request for soya milk was fulfilled straight away. We ate dinner every evening in the restaurant, it's a little bit fancy for us, we're not that used to fine dining, however we were adventurous and in any case, the husband eats everything and anything!

Overall, very pleased with the hotel and I would have liked to have given a 4.5, as it was better than a 4, but not quite the perfect 5!

we were recommended this hotel to have a peaceful stay in Guernsey in early June. It is reasonably expensive but high quality.,,, on the whole good but a few negative points which I always find most helpful when reading other reviews.

I have to say most of the front line staff (reception and waiting) were a BIG let down. We were staying at the hotel and the waitress refused to give us some crisps or nuts with our glasses of wine we were drinking (she said they had nothing like that we could only order from the menu) so my husband went in to ask the barman and he handed over some crisps amazing that??!!??... THANK YOU :)

The reception staff on the whole were appauling... did not know anything about the new bus time table and despite not being busy was not keen to help us navigate it..... I believe he would have preferred us to get a taxi! When we did request a taxi we were told there were none available and we would have to wait indefinatly it seemed...so we logged on to wifi ourselves and surprise surprise managed to arrange our own for collection within 10 mins. I can't even recall what else we went down to ask for help for but nothing out of the norm that you would expect reception staff to be able to help with or at the very least offer to ask someone else..... They are pretty rude and need better customer service skills.

Also ....Why is there no condiments on the breakfast bar, twice we had to ask for tomato sauce multiple times at which point our food was almost cold!!!

Last thing... NO extractor fans work....our bathroom had no window so after a hot shower there is water everywhere.... we thought our fan must be broken as there are switches on the wall.... we checked at reception... but NO apparently when hotel was refurbished they were not plugged in... so none work..... Whole room gets wet and in the winter opening the balcony doors to air room (at other end) may be quite cold!

We were prepared to be underwhelmed by a chintzy experience, but it was actually very nice and not remotely stuffy. We may have been fortunate with the weather, but irrespective, the staff were superb (friendly, accommodating, professional) and the breakfast was very good. A short stroll down the hill is rewarded with Fermain Bay and a lovely beach cafe. I would recommend this hotel .

We only stayed at this hotel overnight on our way to Sark but it was a very enjoyable if short experience.
All the staff are friendly and efficient and the room was well appointed and comfortable.
The hotel offered a well cooked and tasty dinner and an excellent breakfast.
We must stay for a few days in Guernsey in this hotel next time, rather than rushing off to the neighbouring island of Sark.
Highly recommended.

We stayed for four nights in a Silver room in The Venue section of the hotel. These rooms are in a separate block from the main part of the hotel, connected by a steep garden path.

The main part of the hotel is beautifully laid out and furnished, with lovely lounges, restaurant, and terrace overlooking the steep garden towards the bay. Staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful and organised our (complimentary) collection from the airport and return to the airport at the end of our stay. The walk down to Fermain Bay takes a few minutes but is very steep in parts and coming back is a hard slog, takes longer, and is not for those with mobility problems.

Breakfast comprised a wide ranging good quality buffet plus a choice of hot dishes to order. A minor irritation was that, although the Channel islands are famous for their premium dairy products, the hotel chooses to offer only watery fully skimmed milk for breakfast! In my view, this is horrible on cereals and next to useless in coffee. Didn't really understand this aberration as the butter at breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed a couple of simple evening meals from the "lounge" menu, although full table d'hote and a la carte menus are also available in the main restaurant.

We found the repeated trekking to and from our Venue room a bit of a slog, especially the uphill return. Our Silver room was very nicely furnished, including a comfortable bed and nice bathroom. A complimentary decanter of sherry, fresh fruit and local fudge was also a nice touch. However, the room was a bit cramped and cluttered (about 15 sqm excluding the bathroom) with inadequate wardrobe storage. The small in room fridge made a gurgling sound but didn't work despite reporting this to Reception after the first day. The room was very clean except for the exterior of the bedroom window, which was very dirty and obviously had not been cleaned for weeks/months. The rooms do not have air conditioning and therefore it was necessary to have the bedroom window open for much of our stay. This meant a lot of traffic noise early morning and evening from the busy narrow main road running in front of the Venue building, although this did not disturb our sleep unduly.

We enjoyed our break in Guernsey but would not return to a Silver room in the Venue, which we feel are a bit overpriced and overall did not meet our 4 star expectations.

It is very difficult to find any fault with this hotel. We had a gold room 31 with a balcony facing down the valley to the sea. It had the noise of a boiler outside but after an initial complaint, it was obviously part of the infrastructure of the building, so nothing could be done to resolve it. However, like a railway at the bottom of your garden, you don't notice it after a while ! That said, the weeks stay was faultless. The breakfasts are some of the best we have ever had; the rooms are spotless and cleaned and renewed every day; the beds are very comfortable and the staff are all efficient an d welcoming. Gavin and Sara at reception dealt with our every need, including organising the hotel shuttle bus to St Peter Port. No real need to hire a car. The bus stop is at the top of the road. Lunch and Dinners are superb at the hotel and the serving staff are super efficient. There is a superb indoor pool and small sun terrace. All in all a very pleasant surprise. We would definitely stay again.

We had two gold rooms with balconies overlooking the bay. Very comfortable. Only slight annoyance was that extractors in the bathrooms did not work and coupled with strong spotlighting it meant they got very hot. Did report this at reception but nothing was done. Apart from that staff were very attentive, particularly in the restaurant where food was first class. Hotel is in a great area and ideal for visiting St Peter Port which is within walking distance, although up hill all the way coming back which meant bus/taxi was better option! If you stay there on holiday make sure you do boat trips to Sark and Herm - both very worthwhile. Would definitely stay there again.

This was our first visit to Fermain Valley which I researched on Trip Advisor before we booked. We were not disappointed. Robert and his team need to be congratulated for their attention to detail. Our Gold Room - No 17 - was very comfortable and well appointed with the views across the bay. Liked the additional extras in the room - very nice touch. Very minor comments - bathroom got very hot during showers as extractor not working and disappointed that the mini-fridge was not working during our stay. We used the island buses rather than hire a car and didn't use the hotel courtesy bus which was our choice. Very wide choice on the table d'hote menu in the evening- cooked and presented beautifully. There is also a la carte to choose from.
Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again.

What a wonderful stay we had at The Fermain Valley Hotel. Fabulous views and well maintained gardens. The views are spectacular. The service and welcome of an excellent standard. The food was faultless. Staff went out of their way to be helpful and to check that we were having a good time. All this despite a bus strike and a water tank bursting and water coming through the lounge ceiling . The staff continued to attend to the staff in a calm and professional way. Well done all.
The swimming pool is spotless , warm with small but good changing facilities.

If had to make one recommendation to improve it is that customers who are staying in the Venue should have their luggage delivered to the door by staff to save visitors having to manage them up the paths themselves. At this time of the year many guests are of retirement age.

Would I stay here again and recommend it to others. You bet !!!!! Already thinking of next years visit.

I have stayed in this hotel before so was looking forward to returning. However this time I was not fortunate enough to have been given a room with a balcony overlooking the bay. Instead i found myself at the back of the hotel overlooking the bins. During the night it was very warm but I could not open the windows due to the noise of the generator (well I think thats what it was) and when I put the air conditioning on it sounded more like a very large hairdryer!!

Talking of which, after showering I couldn't find a hairdryer in the room anywhere! I had to call Reception and arrange for one to be delivered!!

We ate in their Rock Garden restaurant the previous evening which was wonderful.

Moral of the Story: Excellent hotel, very scenic but make sure you book a room overlooking the bay and check for a hairdryer when you arrive rather than waiting until you need it.

I will return

Came with wife and mother in law for a trip down memory lane as she had not been since 1964! Used to be called la Favourita. Lovely lunch menu and excellent service. Hotel seems very well appointed. Would come for a stay without doubt in the future !

This is an axcellent hotel in beautiful grounds and with superior service. Our only disappointment was with their regularly changed fixed menu! There is a fixed menu, steaks etc, and after that, perm any 6 dishes from a list of 8 or 9 during the week.

We stayed for a week in this excellent hotel and can only say it is one of the best we have stayed in. We are looking forward to our next visit. We were in room 36, a Gold Balcony room in the main hotel and thoroughly recommend it. The staff were all very helpful. Robert Steen the manager, Daniel and Helena were extremely attentive and made us feel at home. The hotel gives little extras such as sherry, fruit, fudge, bottled water, Elemis bath products and a turndown room service. The courtesy bus into St. Peter Port is available on request. Do have a meal in the Rock Garden - a worthwhile experience!

This was our second visit to Fermain Valley Hotel. We booked a Platinum room.We were welcomed back by Robert Steen the manager who showed us to our wonderful room 12.All the Platinum rooms are different,we had number 29 on our last visit which was very comfortable.Room 12 is a very large spacious room and our favourite, we could not fault anything, the views were fantastic, all VERY clean and well kept, the best room we have stayed in over the many years of travelling. We spent three very comfortable nights and enjoyed the excellent service in the Valley Restaurant, the staff could not be more helpful.
Mr Steen was in attendance at the hotel each day and we had a memorable few days.We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

my best friend and i stayed here for my 50th birthday weekend, as our flight was delayed we missed the courtesy bus from airport but Mr .steen general manager came to pick us up. The hotel was beautiful and lovely big room. The staff and all people we encountered were so lovely and helpful which made our stay fantastic. The shopping was great , the restaurants served beautiful food 10 out of 10 all round we will be back for my friends 50th in november and we will book here again. As a proud Jersey Bean i have to say well done Guernsey .

Sp[ent 2 nights here as part of a supreme self-organised holiday to Herm, Sark & Guernsey. I have stayed in other Guernsey hotels and have found them all above average, but this has a special extra touch of luxury. Staff are brilliant and witty and enhance that holiday feeling. The room was full of little surprises, eg Guernsey fudge. Dining is a superb experience. The small indoor pool is well heated and opens onto a lovely terrace. The hotel is set in a couple of buildings, gardens and terraces in quite a steep valley. I found this delightful, but people with mobility issues could face problems-make sensible enquiries before booking. Many Guernsey hotels are located on hillsides, so do your research. There is the public bus to town at the top of the hill, and sometimes a hotel courtesy bus. One can walk down to lovely Fermain beach with its cafe, or take clifftop walks to town or Jerbourg. I walked into town in 20-25 minutes, all downhill and a truly delightful route past Victor Hugo's house. Make sure to make an appointment for a guided tour of this house.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights from the 31st May in the Venue.I can honestly say that our stay was first class, the room ,the staff ,food and service were all of the highest standard. We were made to feel really welcome. The walk to the hotel from the venue is short and gives you a little exercise while enjoying the beautiful gardens.A very peaceful and tranquil setting and we will return I am sure.

We have just returned from our Wedding Aniversary holiday at Fairmain Valley Hotel, and what a lovely location, we had a Platinum room which was outstanding, Robert Steen and all the staff were most friendly and accommodating and we will most certainly return again for another stay, possibly our Golden Wedding next year, if not before .
Thanks Robert and all your staff you made our stay, brilliant especially Mr. Chips on his Harley..
All our best wishes to you and all your staff.

I stayed here with my parents 12-19th May.

We had a platinum room in the main hotel and a silver room in the venue.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The staff were really friendly and the hotel had a lovely feel about it. The food was excellent both in the restaurant and the rock garden.

The rooms were very comfortable.

We will definitely stay there again.

We stayed at this hotel for our wedding anniversary and were impressed by the location (in a quiet valley, with a walk down to a romantic cove with beach bar) plus the great outdoor areas, & (small) swimming pool.
Less impressive, however, was the expensive Platinum room (12) in which we found dated decor, cobwebs, stained carpets and furtinture. The excellent 6ft queen size bed was spoiled by a duvet exactly the same size (no overhang - way too small) and pillows either rock hard or so soft they flatten! This lead to some troubled nights sleep, not helped by the early morning taxis and delivery vehicles right outside the room with engines left running at 6am! (Surely a strict 'no engines before 8am' policy with signs would fix this?). We were also disturbed by the drunken antics of the next room on our last night, though the hotel did stop this after my second phone call of complaint.
There is also some occasional aircraft noise (hotel is on direct flightpath) though this not so serious, - just the odd planes.
One nice touch was the complimentary sherry, - though not being sherry drinkers, we asked for an alternative but were disappointed told no by the reception Mgr... goodness knows how old that sherry in the decanter is...it seems short quite sighted.
We dined in the restaurant twice but at breakfast we were mystified by the missing smoked salmon mentioned on the menu (it's in the fridge, not on the platter with the meat selection - you have to ask for it we were told!) and the restuarant staff frequently got the breakfast order wrong. At dinner on the very first night I was served the wrong fish dish but instead of offering to change it the manageress preferred to argue with customers telling me that I was wrong! There was a poor and surly attitude from a small handfull of staff here (no names) that spoilt the good service from others (Helena, Freddy, Liverpudlian bar man, & West-country receptionist). The restaurant is expensive (especially wine prices!) and I would expect not to have to point out to the young bar man that they are giving short measures on sprits in the bar! (He did later rectify this). Our hire car was also moved without our permission and left unlocked with our valuables inside! The car did have a locking fault, but staff should have told us !
We got the general feeling that some newer members of staff need much more training before being let loose amongst guests, one waitress even claiming they had no egg cups when a lady complained about two boiled eggs siting on a plate, then becoming argumentative about it. All of these issues are not acceptable in this standard of hotel.
I took up these complaints in person with Robert S, the Hotel manager, who seems a nice guy, but clearly has not been taking these problems too seriously as I read previous TA reviews that have highlighted the same problems.
Disappointingly he offered no reduction in our bill or complimenatry items at all, (unless a cup of coffee counts whilst I waited for him?) so I hope he will now tackle these various issues urgently instead of claiming as he did to me that no-one had complained before, and how everyone loves the hotel, which is clearly not true. What is he actually doing to sort it out?

Stayed at this hotel 11th - 14th May to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary, four days ahead I ordered a bottle of Pol Roger Champagne white label to be in our room on arrival. On arrival at the hotel we waited 2 hours for our Platinum room to be ready, £205 per night, eventually we were shown to our room and surprise, surprise no Champagne and our suitcases had gone missing. When I asked where the bubbly was a bottle was sent for and duly arrived but not what I ordered, now the moment and lustre had gone. Eventually the correct bottle arrived, £74 a bottle and it later transpired that a 4 star restaurant 5 minutes away had the same bottle on the menu for £49.50. Needless to say we did not celebrate our day at the hotel. The hotel itself needs the service level to be raised to match its rooms.Having an expensive room on the front overlooks the bay, nice, but below the window is a door at which during our stay a van collecting laundry on Monday morning was left with its engine running from 0615 to 0635, we did not ask for an early call.
