From the moment we were picked up from the airport to the moment they dropped us off again the whole experence was faultless. The initial welcome together with all the friendly staff made this short break one not to forget. The room was perfect and the food excelent. We enjoyed the very warm pool but we did miss not having a jacuzzi especially when there was ample room next to the pool. After a days walking it would have been very pleasent to sit and relax in a jacuzzi. The private cinema was a great experence as we picked our own film and we had the cinema to ourselves. Our room had a great view and we did not hear any noise at all, the complementary sherry was a nice touch. We then moved onto their sister hotel on Alderney and found the standard of this matched the Fermain Valley hotel. Overall a very good few days away.

We've just returned from another stay at the Fermain Valley Hotel following our last visit in April. This time my 90 yr old Mum came with us. It's always a bit nerve wracking to recommend a hotel to someone but the Fermain Valley Hotel didn't let us down. She had a wonderful time and so did we, thanks to Robert (Manager) and his professional staff. The hotel is immaculate which included our room which was its usual high standard. Robes, slippers, quality bathroom essentials, excellent cleaning and the nightly "turn down" service adds to the extra feeling of care.
We ate in the restaurant a couple of nights where the quality of food was to a very high standard. Breakfasts were huge and covered every choice possible.
The Rock Garden is a bar which caters for younger guests and is very on trend - the staff here were really friendly and offered great hospitality when we wandered in to have a look around.
The grounds are immaculately tended and are lovely to wander around. The planting is well thought out and the lower garden leads down to a path to the beautiful Fermain Bay.
Overall we had a wonderful stay and hope to return again in the future.

My wife and I met on Guernsey 32 years ago and got married not long after with 31 years of bliss. To celebrate we decided to return to Guernsey and made a superb decision to go to the Fermain Valley hotel. We had an excellent room with balcony and were treate like royalty by the staff. The meals were excellent and i would thoroughly rcommend this hotel for whatever reason to go to Guernsey.

This is a great hotel in a great location although for anyone with mobility issues, it may be worth checking your needs with the hotel. It is halfway down a steepish hill which goes down to a lovely cove and car parking next to the hotel is fairly limited - especially at weekends - and additional spaces are at the top of the hill next to the Garden Rooms, albeit it through lovely gardens. There are steps down to the restaurant too. The Platinum Room we had was very spacious with a view down the valley to the sea and the rooms in the old part of the building still retain some of their character from years past. Every need is catered for and the food was good - although there is room for improvement - we had one meal which didn't live up to expectations (Duck was a bit "chewy"!). Good breakfast buffet. There is a courtesy bus which can ferry guests to and from the hotel to various locations of their choice. There is also a lift to both floors with steps where the new and the old buildings come together. There is a spacious split level verandah with ample tables and chairs and the views are beautiful. The staff are friendly and courteous and everything was what one would expect from a 4star hotel. Hope to go back some time.

We stayed at the Fermain Valley for 10 nights. We only booked B&B because we like to try different restaurants in the area but the food and service was so good we ate there every night except one. The staff are very welcoming and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. My wife must have gluten-free food and they were fully aware of her needs and the gf choice was better than most restaurants we visit. We had a silver room (10) and had a good view of the valley and the sea beyond. It was spacious and fresh fruit was provided every day. The lounges were not used by most guests so we really relaxed there. I know some people don't like wedding parties (me for one) but we had no issues with wedding guests here at all. If we go back to Guernsey we will have no hesitation in staying here again.

The perfect start to our holiday in Guernsey, restful and relaxing with excellent service. Staff welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food excellent and not over priced considering the quality and presentation - compliments to the Chef and team! Home from home hotel 'lounges' were perfect to sit in and relax at any time of day. The terrace was a great place to eat or just sit with a coffee and while away the time. Views from the main hotel bedrooms and those facing the gardens in 'The Venue' are stunning. Our room in The Venue was quite small, overlooked the side of the hotel and another building. It is quite expensive but guess you pay for the location and service. We didn't mind the walk from The Venue to the main hotel as the gardens are beautiful and therapeutic! If you don't want to walk then book a room in the main hotel but you will have to pay more.

Fermain Valley Hotel? Excellent service. Excellent restaurants. There are however buts. The photos on most sites show the main hotel with balconies looking down the valley to the sea. However, the hotel is in two parts and the "garden rooms" part is not attached to the bit in the photos, but is quite a steep walk up the hill from the main hotel. The "Garden Rooms" bit is also known as "The Venue", where parties, wedding and the like use the function rooms. We didn't find these to be particularly noisy in our second room, but we were initially put in a room, not overlooking any gardens or sea, but a car park, with a main road beyond. The car park was the place of choice for wedding guests to smoke cigarettes, laugh and chat. Until the event finished and traffic on the main road lessened, there was no chance of sleep. I took this up with the receptionist and I'm pleased to report that she managed to find us another room, overlooking the gardens which was not only much quieter, but also much larger.
While on the subject of rest, prospective visitors should be made aware that the hotel is almost in line with the runway at Guernsey Airport. From about 7.30am to 9.00pm there are aircraft taking off or landing pretty much over the hotel. We were woken every day by the 1st flight arriving, so maybe earplugs would be an item worth packing.
So that's the negatives out of the way! The pluses are everything else! Friendly and efficient staff, most of whom seemed to be of Latvian origin. Good food. Clean modern rooms.
The hotel is on a hill. A steep hill! If you aren't fit, or suffer from mobility problems, you will have difficulty getting around. The beach, down the road from the hotel, is hard work, particularly the return journey. One of the staff said to me, possibly as a joke, that he gets a taxi there if he wants to go. There is however a cafe at the beach to replenish calories before the return hike back.
Not been to Guernsey before? The roads aren't like any I have experienced anywhere else in the world! They are narrow, really narrow! The island's 35mph speed limit is in many place too high! You regularly are confronted by lorries or buses heading straight at you, necessitating a diversion onto the footpath, or even reversing back a considerable distance to a wider spot or someone's driveway. Hire car are emblazoned with a large H on the front and rear, so at least the locals are aware that you are not used to the local conditions. Last but not least, if you venture off the "main roads", the lanes are single track with stone walls bordering the tarmac.
Would I stay there again? Hell yes!

We attended a family wedding reception held at The Venue attached to The Fermain Valley Hotel. The room was excellent with a balcony with sofas to relax on, the food was perfect and service excellent. The gardens and surrounding were beautiful.
We stayed overnight and found the room quite small but had a huge comfortable bed. We were overlooking the main road and Fermain Tavern so tended to be quite noisy. It was clean and spotless. There was a television, fruit, water, sherry and tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom had underfloor heating with Elemis toiletries.
The decoration was dated definately needs refurbishing and there were some electrics hanging from the ceiling.
There was a good choice for breakfast with pastries, ham, cheese, cereals and choice of juice. Toast was brought to your table with tea and coffee followed then by a cooked breakfast of your choice from the hot breakfast menu. The service was good however the orders did get mixed up.
Overall a good experience but did not think it was completely worth the cost of £145 for one night.

Wonderful time spent here on a short trip en route to Sark. Not far from everything that the Retail Shopper would enjoy. The views from the Hotel are stunning and as soon as you get to the Hotel the strain of the journey just melts away. Highly recommended!

We have had a terrific week and we really didn't want to come home which is very unusual for us. It has taken us a couple of days to settle in again. The Fermain Valley was a special treat and we paid more than we usually do for a holiday. Glad we did - it was excellent. The staff were great, the location brilliant, great service and food, rooms were cleaned very well. We walked into town a couple of times, along the coastal path but also got the no.11 bus at the bus stop 3 minutes away from Hotel.(Going through the hotel and then the gardens of the VENUE, takes the sting out of walking up the hill and is a very pleasant stroll through the gardens. We only discovered this late in the week.) I would suggest not going on the island bus tour - make your own way - it's very easy - buy a day ticket which can be purchased on the bus. Visit HERM and SARK.

We recently stayed for one week in the Gold Room. Overall we had a very relaxing time. The room was cleaned to a high standard daily. All staff were friendly. The food was delicious. Twice we received a meal not as requested but the chef did change it. The General Manager 'Robert' was extremely friendly and made an effort to go that extra mile. We found the location wonderful. Fermain Bay was quiet and we often had hours on the beach without anyone else appearing. Beautiful gardens and pathway through the woods. However you do need to be relatively fit to walk back up the steep hill. If not we did witness taxi's collecting people. We managed to get around the island via bus service and it only cost £4.50 pp for all day pass. The only fault we encountered which you could get anywhere was a very heavy heeled woman thumping above. This often woke us up when she returned to the room. Difficult to teach people manners! Despite this I would recommend this hotel. We have never returned to a hotel but both agree we would come back and perhaps stay in the premium room. We love Guernsey.

Beautiful hotel, rooms very comfortable and clean and light, service and surrounding gardens and area. Peaceful and luvly views over bush and little bay looking out to sea, and garden and walkway down to the beach through the bush or down to town all delightful.

We have just returned from a week at this hotel, my partner has already posted a comment saying what a fantastic time we had and how good the service was and how clean our room was etc, but having read some of the posts from other travellers I felt the need to have a say myself. There was a very long winded moan about room 51 in the venue, this was our room, it was lovely! It was indeed split level very comfortable and not a bit dangerous and the view from the very large windows overlooking the valley was amazing, The fridge worked and so did the extractor fan.
There are planes flying over but it most definately isnt Heathrow,
As for complaining about the venue being up a hill, what can I say, the whole hotel is set on the side of a valley and all of Guernsey is hilly!!!
The courtsey bus was available whenever we asked for a ride into town, but we found the local bus service was excellent (number 11) running every 15 minutes during the day from the main road just outside the venue to St Peter Port, only a 5 minute ride away.
It would seem some people just like to complain and would do well to rememeber they are on holiday and relax a little
The staff (especially the General manager, Robert) couldnt have been more welcoming and helpful. We had a great week and will definately be making a return visit to this hotel

We have just returned from a fantastic week at this hotel. We stayed in the Venue part of the hotel, which was explained to us at the time of booking as being slightly away from the main hotel, but to be honest was no more than a minute walk. Yes there was a wedding on the Saturday, which certainly didn't go onto the late hours in the morning, and what decent hotel isn't holding a wedding on a Saturday in the summer . The staff made a point of letting us know that an event was on, and it certainly wasn't a loud boisterous event as reported by others. Our room was excellent, clean and well equipped and serviced very well every day. The breakfast was excellent and served quickly with a good range. The hotel was immaculate and the general manager was superb at all times, reflecting that there was a genuine wish to please at all times. Swimming pool was clean and the sauna worked superbly. The location was great, five minutes from Peters Port by shuttle bus that was always available, yet offering tranquility away from the bustle. Total recommend this hotel.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was very good. The swimming pool, although small was excellent. The sauna was completely cold the whole time we were there, and the 'emergency phone' by the swimming pool was broken.

Back to days gone by in respect of friendly service provided and helpfulness, yet the hotel facilities were up to date and provided a most relaxing holiday for myself and my partially abled father. The personal attention paid to each visitor was great. The room was superb, clean and beautifully decorated; the bed was really comfortable; and the bathroom facilities were excellent. The breakfasts were so heavenly that you didn't need to eat until the evening! And location-wise - its perfect for families as it is near the beach (bit of a hike up the hill afterwards) or for tourists wanting so stay 10 minutes from St Peter Port. We will definitely be returning to this hotel.

I can truthully say that I have rarely come across the excellent level of customer service provided by the fantastic staff at the Fermain Valley. My room was superb, with great facilities and very clean. I particularly enjoyed the swimming pool and beautiful setting of the hotel. I would recommend the hotel with absolute confidence, especially for a special getaway!!

We stayed for 3 nights in a family room with our 3 year old son. The room was very large and clean and the hotel made lots of effort with little extras in the room. The staff were extremely friendly even with our over excited noisy 3 year old son. The price was expensive but I feel it was worth the price we paid. My only criticism is the room we stayed in was over the venue where a family wedding took place and when I took my son to bed early you could hear the music. This did not seem to disturb him though. The pool was brilliant and very warm which was ideal for our family. We will definitely come back to guernsay again amd when we do we will stay at this hotel again,

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, staff went out of their way to make us welcome, they were friendly & very professional. The room was ideal and well appointed, lovely view over the trees to the sea. Food was plentiful and excellent quality. We had a great time & if we ever revisit Guernsey we will definitely stay at this hotel.

we are regular tourists we found this hotel not to a standard expected although the room was clean, size of room small. the menu was limited and over priced. we asked for sea view but the trees stopped the sea view . breakfast was plentyful BUT table linen was dirty. some staff were not very organized

The hotel has a wonderful situation with outstanding views; it is handy for St Peter Port while quite apart from the hustle and bustle. Overall appreciated the attention to detail of the establishment. The bedroom was well appointed, had lovely decor and a great outlook. The breakfast menu had a good variety to choose from. Dinner had a compact menu which revolved around central ingredients that were enlivened by the accompanying ingredients - very tasty. The gardens are an item in themselves and demand to be appreciated. The pool was enjoyed; an excellent alternative to bathing off Fermain beach which is stony and the water is cold!! The staff were friendly and efficient.
Anyone with concerns about their mobility should be aware of the setting on a steep gradient so would be confined to the hotel.
Minor negatives were: the confined range of tv channels with the BBC regional news from London which undermines the Channel Island experience; the lack of free wifi; coffee at breakfast not being serve yourself - unlike the fruit juice.

Anyone who's read reviews of this hotel recently will definitely experience a feeling of "deja vu" reading mine.
Firstly, I can only endorse all the positive remarks made already about the hotel's magnificent location; idyllic views of Fermain Bay from our Gold room with balcony. We've been regular visitors to Guernsey for nearly 20 years but this was our first stay at this hotel. One of the highlights of this visit was the delightful stroll down to the beach, and the excellence of the food on offer at the Beach cafe cannot be overstated.
However, a recurring lament in recent Tripadvisor reviews has been about the non-functioning fridges in bedrooms. As a fridge is one of the facilities specifically mentioned on the hotel's website room descriptions, we thought just one or two guests must have been unlucky. We love to enjoy a cold drink on our balcony, especially when the view is as good as this one. Sadly we found that drinks placed in our room's fridge tasted, if anything, warmer when we took them out. Upon reporting this at reception we were told that ALL the fridges had started to break down within recent weeks, and that new ones had been ordered for each room.
I would be very interested to know if future visitors enjoy a brand new, fully functioning fridge in their rooms at Fermain Valley? Reception did say that, any time we required chilled water (which is provided free of charge in rooms each day) we should ring down to the bar, and some would be sent up (also complimentary). Not quite the same as being able to help yourself from a fridge conveniently close to hand. I think that, at the very least, the hotel's publicity should not be mentioning room fridges until the new ones are in place.
Ineffective bathroom fans have also featured in several reviews; without our asking for one, we were given an explanation of this when shown to our room on arrival. The fans are apparently special, noiseless models which operate continuously, so do not demist the room as rapidly as conventional types. The extractor fan was certainly not an issue for us!
Staff were generally friendly and helpful but the quality of breakfast varied and, at the one dinner we ate here, a sauce was served with my steak which wasn't on the menu and wasn't to my liking!
Finally, the courtesy bus doesn't seem to run to scheduled times; you have to ask if it's available when you want it. The only day that we'd have liked to use it to get to St Peter Port and back, it was too busy with airport runs, so we used the regular bus service instead.
I doubt if we'll be returning to the Fermain Valley Hotel.

Beautiful location, and the gardens are a gardeners paradise. All friendly staff, very good restaurant, spectacular views from the large, modern terrace/pool area. Convenientfriendly shuttle service to town or airport. We would definitely go again!

I only stayed here for one night but was really impressed right from the minute the free courtesy shuttle bus picked us up from the airport. The hotel is lovely in a really picturesque location with only a short walk to the pretty Fermain Bay. The staff are all really helpful and took time to show us round evening though they were obviously busy with the hotel being full booked. Our room was spacious with clean, crisps decor and a lovely view out over the bay. The wifi is good and nice Elemis toiletries in the bathrooms. There is a decent sized indoor pool and doors that open out onto the sun terrace. Afternoon tea was amazing but too much and it felt a waste leaving some - hats off to the patteserie chef as the swan choux buns were delightful! We ate at The Rock Garden which is definitely worth a try. This really is a great hotel with first class service. Highly recommended!
