Recently had a lovely stay at the Fermain Valley Hotel. The room, staff and atmosphere were excellent. The manager was hands on and always ready to help. Food was lovely. All in all, an excellent weekend. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Guernsey for the weekend.

We stayed here for a weekend on a staycation. We were dismayed to find that both the restaurants were closed and part of the hotel was under refurbishment. This we found out when we checked in. It meant that we had to trek up the hill for dinner at The Venue, which was fine but it's not what we actually came for. The room was lovely though. Nicely appointed, large and with a little balcony and sea view. We had breakfast delivered on both mornings - also fine but not spectacular. It was nice to be so close to Fermain bay and on both days we took a walk down to the café. I would recommend the hotel, especially for it's location and view but I was disappointed with our stay.

We had a lovely stay at the Fermain Valley hotel in the Venue family room overlooking the beautiful garden. It is a modern newly decorated room and bathroom with beautiful views over the valley to the sea. It was a quiet room. The service was amazing. All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely in their beautiful dining room. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The walk through the flower garden is great. Five minutes drive from St Peter Port. Brilliant location.

I would never fly with Flybe to Guernsey again as they cancelled our 8pm flight (apparently Flybe very regularly cancel flights to/from Guernsey at the last minute as they're the only Guernsey airline that can't land in fog) and the hotel very kindly found us another room for the night at the last minute. Blue Islands/Aurigny are much better airlines for Guernsey.

Set in a beautiful gardens on the top of a valley leading, quite a significant way, eventually to a pretty but pebble beach. The hike back up is a good work out before dinner !!! Staff were very helpful though I couldn't quite work out what one had to do to get the Fermain Valley car to take you either to or from the airport. Bit odd to be told that the car didn't operate before 0800.. thereby missing the first two main LGW commuter jets out of Guernsey. Originally given an annex. Paid the supplement and took a gold room that had a great view in the main building. Rock gardens restaurant was recommended by others but I was told that Monday, like most restaurants in Guernsey it was closed. Odd.. it was a Bank Holiday and one would have thought that it might have been considered peak. However, the other main restaurant was excellent despite the fact that the decor was a tad leather and RR Diner.. Sea Food and the Service was excellent. Rooms were cosy. Easy to navigate though could not switch TV off properly. Probably more silly me !! Indoor pool was noted but not used. Great for a quick stop over.. possibly more of a winter hideaway option !!

I discovered the joy of a stay at the Fermain in February of this year, so when I was planning a 'me time' treat, had no hesitation in booking a return visit. There have been some changes to the Restaurants, and therefore I felt compelled to try them both........and enjoyed both very much indeed.
Staff were great, room was super - no balcony, but terrific views. When the sun was shining, there were a number of sunspots on the terrace, so great to sit out with a book and a drink. Also made use of the small pool - maybe the water was a little too warm for me, but thats just a personal opinion.
Took advantage of the Courtesy Bus into town on Liberation Day (May 9th), and although i made the return journey on foot (I will admit to catching the bus from Town to the top of the hill....), it was good to know that all I needed to do was to ring the hotel and arrange for a pick up time.
Looking forward to my next visit already.

I spent 4 nights here and it was great. We stayed in rooms in the annex which was fine. Rooms were well-equipped, very clean. Staff was great, particularly Viera at reception. The breakfast was included. They offered a range of cold and hot dishes, so there was something there for everyone. Wait staff couldn't have been nicer. We used their shuttle service to take us into St. Peter Port our first day and from then on used the bus which stopped right outside the hotel. The gardens were beautiful; very peaceful.

Absolutely fab; the staff were without exception very friendly, very helpful and very obliging....nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The Manager himself was very hands on, welcoming and very friendly and you can see where the influence on the exceptional staff attitude comes from. Courtesy pick from airport, delicious dinner and wonderful breakfast. Rooms were clean, very light and airy and the balcony overlooking the valley and sea was a wonderful early evening setting for an early evening tipple of complimentary sherry before dinner. Great nearby walks (very steep in places and all the steps are definitely not for the faint hearted!) and some wonderful sketching opportunities. All in all a wonderful weekend! Can't really comment on the Fitness Centre or Spa as I didn't use it at all....way too many other outdoor things to do and see!

We had a lovely holiday at this hotel. The staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough to make our stay memorable. We were picked up from the Airport on time by the courtesy transport which was available when required during our stay. The bus service was very convenient from just outside the hotel. The Gold room was lovely although slightly smaller than expected, but then we were only there in the evenings,so this did not really matter. We had bath Robes and slippers supplied, and everything you would require in the bathroom in the way of toiletries. The fruit and sherry was a lovely touch, and the Tea/coffee was replenished every day. The room was cleaned extremely well every day and we had a nice balcony overlooking the terraces and the sea. All in all we could not fault this hotel and would return again without any hesitation.I would like to say a big Thank you to Robert Steen for a very well run hotel and also to Gavin on the reception and Nick the transport driver and wish them all well for a very successful season.

I have stayed here twice a year for the last 5 years or so.
It has just undergone a wonderful refurbishment and everything looks even newer than it already did.
I had a 'Gold' room and it looked over beautiful woodland with the sea beyond. The gardens are immaculate and worth a wander in themselves.
I went fro a run from the hotel and the road down to the beach and paths along the cliffs are a delight.
The bed is so comfortable. My only complaint was the fan did not work in the bathroom leaving it very hot and stuffy (the only reason for not giving the fifth star).
The breakfast is first class. Plenty of fruit and yoghurt with the usual hot choices available.
I checked out this morning and realised I had left my phone charger in the room. I called reception from the office in the main town and they delivered it to me!! How's that for service.
For me this is the only hotel worth staying in on the island!

We spent only 2 nights in this hotel.

The best for us was :
-Breakfast : differents and great choices, pancakes tasted amazingly good, nice service
-"Shuttle" to town : very very helpful !
-The location : on a beautiful Valley, near a Bay and a View Point. Bus station is near the hotel, so it is very convenient.

I won't write more about it, it was really good overall, it was clean, nice staff even though the "check-in" was made very quickly... I would have prefered to have more information about the location or the hotel because it was our first time in Guernsey.

I recommend :)

we had a platinum room in the main hotel which was spacious and welcoming. There were bathrobes, toiletries and sherry. The bowl of fruit was a nice touch. The location was lovely with a short woodland walk to the beach and easy access to St Peter Port harbour via local buses although the hotel was great about organising transport. Everyone was pleasant and the breakfasts were plentiful and nicely cooked. The Ocean restaurant had a good menu and the meal was fine. The only downside of the whole experience was that people would wait in the carpark below our room, for taxis and to smoke. We had the windows open as it was so hot so the smoke drifted into our room and the loud conversations of the people waiting meant no sleep before midnight. This was not the fault of the hotel though, but ask for a back room if you want quiet. All in all a very pleasant trip. Thanks to Gavin and the staff.

I travel to this hotel around once a month for work. Secretly, I look forward to staying here. From the fabulous staff who always greet me with a warm welcome to the luxurious comfortable beds to the wonderful view this really is one of my favourite hotels. Just undergone a refurb and it looks great. The food is always brilliant, the room service is great and nothing is too much trouble for the staff they really are brilliant. Nestled in a gorgeous bay, a short walk through the hotel down to the wonderful little bay quickly helps one unwind after travelling. Rooms have sea view balconies so you can sit and unwind here and it's the little touches such as apples, a decanter in the room, everything you need from toiletries to an ironing board to tea and biscuits all make the stay fabulous. Love to bring the hubby and kids here for a stay because I know they would love it. Don't tell the boss but no hardship at all staying here and secretly I enjoy my work trips to this fabulous hotel.

We stayed for only 3 nights, unfortunately( to attend the same family wedding) and from the moment that we arrived we were greeted with wonderful customer service. Flight arrived at 8 am and we were picked up at 8.20 am by the courtesy car. On arrival at Fermain we expected to leave our bags until book in time but our room was ready and we were able to have a lovely breakfast and enjoy the facilities. Special mention for Robert Steen who greeted us each morning and was particularly hard working on the day of the wedding held at The Venue. He was always courteous and attentive as were all the staff at all times, what a joy! The wedding receptions were fantastic, the hotel is in the most beautiful setting, so overall, an extremely fabulous experience .
Gold room with sea view terrace worth every penny and the hubby adored the sherry ! And yes we will definitely stay again as well.

We stayed six nights here, whilst attending a family wedding and were delighted to find the best customer service we have ever had. All staff were very helpful, cheerful, friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. Robert Steen, the general manager, in particular was courteous, helpful and efficient. We appreciated the tour of the hotel when we arrived, the use of the cinema, excellent food and free shuttle service. Our gold room had a fantastic view with balcony, complimentary fruit, water & sherry in the room. We will definitely stay again.

Service, location, overall quality are recommended. There are however, the following areas that let the hotel down. The breakfast menu is good but the staff seem over worked or more likely poorly supervised. We found ourselves constantly having to ask for items such as crockery, sauces etc items that should be continually re-stocked. To run out of white bread as they did one breakfast time is poor. The Steakhouse Restaurant was disappointing firstly the level of service was not good but secondly the quality of meat poor. One steak was simply not fit for consumption when we complained a very lame excuse was given and we had to refuse to pay for it, this offer should have been made by the staff. In this restaurant as with many others chefs avoid confrontation we suggest in future when there is such a complaint the chef meets the customer not shift responsibility to waiting staff. Overall the above should not detract from the fact that this is a very good hotel that we would recommend.

We have just spent 4 nights at this hotel for my nephew's wedding (their reception was held in The Venue). The hotel and Venue were excellent. Robert Steen and his staff could not have been more attentive and made our stay even more enjoyable. Excellent food, beautiful grounds and views. Well equipped and very comfortable rooms. Complimentary use of the hotel's mini buses was a great bonus too (Lucas was our wonderful driver)
I would recommend this hotel!

OK, age has relaxed me a bit over the last few years and I was very happy to stay in this hotel again after a four year absence (and trying out self-catering for a change). After decades of dreaming about staying in one of the rooms with a balcony, I finally managed to book one and am so pleased I did - stepping out onto the balcony was unforgettable - views down the valley, birds singing in the trees, a gentle sea breeze - it is enchanting! The hotel is beautifully decorated, has a lovely atmosphere and well worth it's star rating. I have no complaints about the staff, they are efficient and smart and the person who serviced our room each day was charming and very kind in asking what sort of fruit we would like in our room.
The room itself was immaculate and the decor classically modern with a decanter of sherry on hand and fresh fruit each day. Although the room could get rather warm, opening the doors to the balcony helped. The bathroom was clean and functional and the shower was fine.
Food-wise, the chefs are excellent and the food absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the fish dishes. I would like to say that during dinner, I would recommend the hotel add on a couple of extra members of staff to serve and take orders - it cannot be a pleasant experience for the staff to have to rush around like that with two demanding guests like us - could the manager allow a couple more people to be on hand in the restaurant please?
My only other concern would be to ensure that the terrace outside the swimming pool is kept nice and tidy, loungers straightened, cushions put in place.
I HIGHLY recommend the Fermain Valley Hotel for practically anyone, especially couples on a romantic holiday, honeymoon or anniversary.

This spa hotel in a secluded valley with a sea view has a fresh contemporary atmosphere and period furniture in the library and lounges in original part of the building. The staff were a happy and welcoming team and the swim and sauna before dinner rounded off the day.
The room in the Silver suite, above the conference facility just up the hill, was spacious, clean and comfortable and had a marvellous view down the valley to the sea.
The set menu had 3 good choices, which were attractively presented, for each of three courses; having booked half board for 4 days, we were disappointed to have the same set menu each day. We were offered a discount on the a la carte, and the prices were reasonable.
There are a brisk 40 minute walk along the coast path to St Peter Port and magnificent runs either way although the sea temperature in April trumped the inviting waters in the Bay when considering a swim before breakfast.

The Fermain Valley Hotel has won its place amongst my top ten hotels to return to - I almost hate writing this in case it is full when I want to return. In one word - staff! They were universally helpful and attentive. Staying here for the first time felt as if we had been regulars before. Led from the front by the very hands on general manager, Robert Steen, this hotel is an individual gem. If you like to be near to St Peter Port but in a lovely valley with superb [although at times challenging] walks including down to the cute bay with" foodie" beach café this is an excellent choice. As a break from mad city driving in England I persuaded my husband we could cope without a car. We did - using the local bus [stop near hotel ] - only £2 to go around the whole island or taxis. When it is free the hotel mini bus will drop you in the day time down into St Peter Port, just don't expect it to be on tap in the evenings, but a taxi was only £6 for the four of us to town for dinner.- [ In a four night stay we managed 7 different eateries!]
The public areas are a joy, well lit and comfortable lounges and even a small library complete with tourist information, - squashy sofas, those views across the bay and beautiful arrangements of fresh flowers - perfect for a coffee and chat to review the days activities. There is a separate bar and sitting area which also seemed popular for classic cream teas! I have to say this hotel, during our visit, feels more like an adults venue, - I did spot a box of games in one of the lounges but if I am honest I liked the lack of children running around.. There are glorious sun terraces as well as outdoor seating areas for the restaurants, including one by the pool. This is enclosed with full length opening glass doors for warmer days - quite small and the water was tropical on our visit - we tended to use it to swim and chat. There is a sauna which the staff will switch on for you on request - give it half an hour or so to warm up.
The two restaurants have now both been totally refurbished - the style for the ocean is classy and nautical and is also where breakfast is served. This was excellent - a vast choice and we ate our way through most of the options from asparagus omelettes, eggs benedict, kippers to the full Guernsey breakfast. For those who prefer continental there were plenty of choices , the most delicious yoghurt I have ever eaten croissants, cold meats and cheeses and cereals - including one amazing, presumably in house concoction. The evening menu is stylish, with beautifully presented and cooked food. We ate there our first night and the choices suited all our various tastes - mine are fish, fish and more fish! If I was to be at all critical I would say the portions could have been a little bit more generous - for example I had a delicious risotto but would have liked a tiny bit more!
The second restaurant, the Rock Garden, was only having its official launch on our last night. We were invited to this and I have to say if it had been open during our complete stay it would have been difficult to drag my husband elsewhere. As an avid carnivore the steaks in the restaurant will take a lot of beating. We tried mouth watering slices served on giant chips.

And so to describe the bedrooms. We had a Gold one because I wanted a view over the bay and the balcony to sit out on and enjoy it. standard rooms are silver, then gold and top grade[ and beautiful and spacious but mostly without a balcony], platinum. I can best describe our double bedroom as rather like a balcony cabin on a posh cruise ship. It was really quite small but for me perfectly formed. The personal touches like a decanter of sherry, fresh fruit and fudge on arrival was a lovely welcome. Toiletries, bath robes and slippers just added to my sense of wellbeing - yes I loved all the goodies. The toiletries in the bathroom were good quality and thank goodness they have the sense to give you one each of everything - my pet gripe is hotels that give you only one - so essentially you have to pack your own.- my friends are still laughing over the body buffers!!! No there is not a lot of space but we did have two easy chairs and a little table as well as the chairs and table on the balcony. The top floor has slightly smaller rooms but bigger balconies. The only puzzle was the sound of scraping furniture in the the mornings - it sounded at times if the removals were in above us - early departures I think - I suggested they got some rubber ferrules for the balcony furniture. The bed linen was immaculate and fresh and crisp - although we would have liked a slightly wider duvet as we are not small people. Both my friend and myself moved things around in our room - ie the kettle was in the wardrobe on a shelf - there was a generous box of teas, coffees, hot chocolate and biscuits - plus a fridge in the room that was silent!!! They had just installed satellite and we never found out how to put on the television - I am sure they will provide instructions -there is WIfi but I didn't take my laptop. Unfortunately due to misuse the computers in the lounge area have had to be removed! The bathroom complete with heated towel rail was excellent with bath and shower over. As there is no air conditioning [peace!} probably in high summer a fan will be needed on hot days.
The Venue - at the top of the fabulous gardens up nearest to the road this is a separate building - classy place for an event like a wedding and there are separate bedrooms too.. For us our final treat was to use the private cinema up there to watch a film all of us had missed when it was released - a real sense of luxury - I understand they do special nights there complete with a meal and popcorn!
Overall we made ourselves very comfortable for our four night break - we booked an inclusive package of flights from Southampton, accommodation and dinner on the first night via the hotel's own telephone booking service and an extremely helpful lady.. On request the hotel will meet you from the airport and take you back when you leave. Return we most definitely will.

Stayed here for 3 days in March this year. Couldn't fault it. Very friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable room with lovely views over the valley. Swimming pool was clean and warm. The restaurant was being refurbished as "Ocean" when we were there but it didn't affect us - in fact we were invited to the opening which was lovely. Food and restaurant service was very good. Lounges are very comfortable and relaxing

We have been to Guernsey a number of times and Fermain Valley would be our hotel of choice should we return.

Highly recommended

A really relaxing weekend. Full marks to Lucas who picked us up from the airport and then took us into St Peter Port after checking in. The room was lovely with a very hot shower (beware of the temp) but very powerful. An unusual touch was the decanter of sherry, bowl of fruit and chocolates. The indoor swimming pool was a little too warm but even so was relaxing. The waiters were efficient (almost too quick to take your plate at times) but they seemed to be chasing each other around with orders taken and then another coming to take it again. Breakfast again was confusing with coffee arriving twice and toast with the full Guernsey breakfast not arriving at all. However on the whole it is a lovely place to stay and a good weekend break.

This is a wonderful hotel, a real star. All credit to Robert Steen and his staff for creating a warm, inviting and relaxing ambiance. We stayed three nights on there deal including flights and transfers. The accommodation was excellent and the food was even better!
If you want a relaxing break in a wonderful location then this hits the spot.

Overall a lovely hotel but not so good if you have food allergies. I phoned ahead to see if I should bring my own gluton free bread but they insisted it was no problem for them to get it. After several days of no bread I finally found marks &Spencers had some. Also booked a 'secret escapes' holiday so not such a bargain as we had the views of the dustbins and ongoing refurbishments. As it was for our 46th weddings anniversary and a 70th birthday celebration we did have a lovely surprise though of 2 red roses on our pillows and a heart made of petals on the bed. Staff are so lovely especially the new manager in the Ocean restaurent . Their fish pie was the best I have ever tasted. I would love to go again but only if assured a room with a view! The cafe on the beach also had lovely meals.so relaxing sitting outside overlooking the beach.Well worth the walk down but only if you are fit as it seems twice as far climbing back up!

The hotel reservations team were brilliant before we arrived as I ended to look after 2 disabled relatives and check their hotel room would suit. It was a perfect twin room with space and great facilities. We suggested a seat in the bathroom as their was no toilet seat and they needed somewhere dry to sit. I was in a garden room and the garden walk is lovely, up a steepish hill. Room was perfect and loved the Elemis toiletries. Offer turndown service too.
Hotel reception team were great. Dan was welcoming and gave a great tour. Gavin was really helpful prior to arrival and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel offer a comp car service from the airport which was a treat. We used this service into St Peters Port and Lucas the driver was a super star.
Hotel is in a peaceful setting with gardens and outside seating.
One thing lets the hotel down. Breakfast service is indifferent and uncaring. We could have been new arrivals every day as they never appeared to recognise us and everything seemed such hard work. We ate dinner in Ocean on the first night and service was terrible. Food is tasty. We also ate on Mothers Day and the service was much friendlier and speedier. Food again lovely.
Hotel well located for the town or airport and easy to get about with local buses and the car service. You can do a round the island tour on a local bus at the top of the road from the hotel.
