We stayed at Fermain Valley Hotel for 10 nights. An excellent location with a commanding view over the bay from our Platinum room. We were met with outstanding hospitality which continued throughout our stay.
We loved every aspect of the hotel from the excellent food & drink, courtesy vehicle, special touches in our room, to the personal attention given to us by every member of staff.
We would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anyone.Indeed it is our intention to return in 2015.

The hotel is well situated with views over the valley down to the sea and is quiet, apart from the occasional landing aircraft, whose flight path goes over the hotel. Our platinum room was spacious and very comfortable but a little hot at times (no a/c). Staff were extremely helpful, the whole place having a good feel to it. The only let down is the breakfast service, which, over our four day stay was consistently slapdash and unprofessional, which is strange because the service and quality of food in the Ocean dining room (in the evening) was totally different, attentive, friendly with some great dishes on offer. Apart from that, I would recommend the hotel.

We took my mother in law to this lovely hotel and could not have asked for better service. Robert the hotel manager was very much on the ball for her every needs including organising a wheelchair which was waiting outside her room on arrival. I can't praise him and his team enough. Looking forward to the next visit.

My wife and I stayed at Fermain as part of our honeymoon in Guernsey for 2 nights and we wish we could've stayed longer! I had booked our stay as part of her birthday present (her birthday was 2 weeks before the wedding) and we were surprised to find 2 cards on arrival- a birthday card for my wife and a congratulations for our marriage: these little gestures set the tone for our stay.

We actually stayed in the Venue which is a short walk up the hill but still has amazing views of the ocean from the room. Every staff member was so courteous and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable- our stay was definitely one of the highlights for our time in Guernsey.

We had a dinner each at the Ocean restaurant and the Rock Garden. Both meals were fantastic and hard to split the two. Ocean has more a seafood focus, whereas Rock Garden is steak and cocktails. We love seafood and were tempted to skip the Rock Garden but were glad we didn't.

We had such a great time at Fermain and can't speak any higher of it.

First time we have stayed at the Fermain and was greatly impressed. The reception was welcoming and the staff extremely helpful - we stayed in a gold room with a balcony and the view was breath taking - sherry very welcome as was the water and fruit - beautifully clean and situated very nicely within the hotel - breakfast very good although would like more choice as I am a diabetic but overall no complaints and have even booked next years holiday already - see you all then and a 10/10 to all staff

We stayed here for 3 nights for our 10th wedding anniversary. We stayed in a gold room with a balcony in the main hotel, which was a good size and very pleasant with a nice bathroom, although a shower but no bath. There were nice touches like a box of fudge, sherry and fruit which were topped up daily and a good selection of water, teas, coffee and biscuits. On our first night we came back to our room to find rose petals scattered on our bed and an anniversary card, which was a lovely personal touch.

The breakfast was excellent with a good choice of cold buffet and hot food cooked to order- delicious pancakes and eggs Benedict! We ate from the bar menu , the mushroom tartin was delicious and reasonably priced. The Ocean restaurant was good, but the specials were disappointing when we were there- no seafood special which we had been hoping for.

The complimentary shuttle service was useful to/ from the airport, and staff were accommodating in letting us grab an early breakfast on Saturday when we had an early start for a day trip. Whilst some of the staff were excellent others on reception seemed a but grumpy.

What really made the stay excellent though was the stunning location and views from the hotel. The restaurant and some of the rooms overlook the gardens with the sea in the background. It is a beautiful (but hilly) walk down through the lovely, well kept, tropical hotel garden, then through the woods to Fermain bay, which is just stunning surrounded by wooded cliffs, with views of Herm and Sark in the distance, and a pleasant cafe.

It was about a 20 minute scenic downhill walk to St Peter Port, the downside of course is that it is uphill all the way back, but a reasonable bus service runs just past the hotel, and was a bargain at £1 per person!

All in all a very enjoyable stay, and everything we had hoped for!

My son and his wife joined me in this wonderful Hotel. We were collected from the airport by the Hotel manager him self and from that moment on my every need was catered for.
My room was next to the lift with all disabled facilities plus complimentary bottled water, a decanter of sherry( which was filled every day) some fruit and flowers.
Robert (the hotel manger) arranged for a folding wheel chair to be left in the hall for my use on day trips.
This was our first day and I already felt like the Queen.
Next morning at breakfast my eggs were prepared and brought to the table where the staff offered to collect anything from the buffet, but my son and daughter in law delt with that.
Robert popped along just to make sure all was well and Clarmon (a French waiter) was so attentive and charming.
Robert recommended places on the Island to visit which included the Island Tour, this gave us an insight to the area.
I am 88 years and not a big eater so the Rock Garden suited me as I could choose the size of a number of different cuts of meat. A 100 gram steak for me and a 250 gram ribeye for both my son and his wife was a joy. Again the staff were so friendly and helpful.
I felt like a Queen every day I was there,

THANKYOU TO ROBERT AND ALL HIS STAFF WHO MADE MY HOLIDAY SO SPECIAL

The brochure looked fantastic! As we approached it looked fantastic! As we entered the foyer it looked fantastic! The very kind and helpful reception staff member showed us to our room, number 18, and then our bubble deflated - didn't burst, just deflated. We had a gold room upgrade kindly offered by the hotel as our 'platinum' room wasn't available. We were so happy as the gold rooms are the hotel's best rooms, with a balcony, with a little wicker coffee table and chairs, fresh fruit free daily, dicantered sherry, bath robes, slippers as gold room extras. We both were very disappointed to find the LCD flat TV was hanging off the wall, and flopping to one side. The room did also look small and in need of some TLC, although the walls did look recently painted. Troubles didn't end there. Although the bathroom was clean, with pure white and clean towels, the sink was grubby and the plug broken, so the water struggled to drain away. I mentioned our problems on the first day, nothing was done, then again mentioned the second day, again nothing was done. In the end I gave up. Breakfast was very poor on all four mornings. Poached eggs were hard, scrambled eggs were strange - a weird texture! I do fantastic scrambled eggs so know what they should look and taste like! Sausages and bacon were anemic, only the black pudding and fried eggs were great. Every morning we had large canvas bags full of towels and sheets outside our room, that we had to clamber over. I can only say the hotel looked great from the outside, two of the staff were very helpful, balcony and view were great. But, to stay honest here I could not recommend this hotel. It's position is directly under the UK flight path, so three to four times daily you get that lovely loud jet engine roar.

Just back from a 3 night break at Fermain Valley. Nice hotel in lovely location. We stayed in the annexe part of the hotel which is a short uphill walk from the main building. Rooms are well equipped and very clean and tidy. Breakfast was very good but I wasn't very impressed with evening meal menu in Ocean restaurant.

What a lovely hotel in a wonderful location. Such friendly staff and the rooms were excellent. First day we made our way down to the beautiful bay from the hotel and it was spectacular. Complimentary bottled water, fruit and a decanter of sherry which was very much appreciated! Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. My pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup were particularly delicious. Lovely bonus of a pool and sauna to relax with fab views from the terrace across the bay. The complimentary minibus transport into St Peter Port was most welcome instead of taking the car. The food in the Rock Garden was delicious with juicy steaks cooked to perfection although we did have to wait a little too long for our drinks on arrival. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to experience Guernsey.

The Fermain Valley Hotel lived up to expectations! The hotel feel is totally relaxing and all the finishing touches were appreciated. Rooms are very spacious and luxuriously comfortable. Worth noting that the hotel has two very popular restaurants not just with residents but also locals - Rock Garden (steak) & Ocean (Fish) with amazing sea views. Downside for us was that it was particularly noisy late at night with people having a good time!
Sea views are amazing and you really must make the 5 minute walk down to Fermain beach where there is an excellent beach cafe.
If there is anything that could be improved would be the knowledge of the staff. We presume that it is beginning of the season as the staff on the breakfast shift were not particularly well trained however the food made up for this. Also upon check out the receptionist was particularly abrupt and grumpy which was an unfortunate way to end a fantastic stay.

This is a honest and frank review of two halves after a brief overnight visit to Guernsey on business. We had a warm and friendly welcome before being driven up the hill to our room in the annex - which was clearly another small hotel on the main road in a previous life. It is an uphill/downhill walk to/from the main building, which houses the restaurant, bar and pool - so be aware of this if you book a Venue room! We enjoyed a drink on the terrace after walking down - and back up - the steep hill to the bay! The main disappointments were firstly the room - which was small, hot and stuffy, with no air conditioning and the noise of the road and bar opposite. Secondly, the restaurant food and the service from the staff were both surprisingly poor and there was no restaurant manager to be seen so we could address these issues. To their credit, when we mentioned this to the duty manager at the front desk, he responded very professionally with an apology and a credit on the bill. Thank you for redeeming what was becoming a very disappointing visit. So this has to be an average review - but as soon as they sort out the restaurant I think most people will enjoy a visit to this hotel - but until they do, we will return to our usual hotel in St Peter Port.

Booked two platinum rooms to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, met by the duty manager who had taken the time to ensure all family members had appropriate rooms. We were given a short tour/overview of the property the attention to detail also included an anniversary card in the room. Hotel facilities were all clean and maintained to a high standard. Food was excellent would recommend making a booking for the restaurants as they are very busy. Great views from the room completed the experience, including great gardens.I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Just returned from our first visit to Guernsey booked as a package via Travelsmith. All correspondence and paperwork was spot on and we have rarely met such friendly people, from the Aurigny flight, Europecar Car Hire to Hotel Fermain Valley.
The Hotel was easy to find in a beautiful setting. Top class facilities, classy bathroom accessories and beautiful white fluffy towels and bathrobes.
Lovely terraced bar/restaurant, kept very clean. Fabulous choice of menus (half board was included in our package) so £50 allowance for each evening meal. Brilliant lobster/fillet steak surf and turf and delicious garlic langoustines with frites! Complimentary fruit , chocolates and sherry in the room and a handy little fridge with complimentary mineral water.
We look forward to booking again next year

Returned home, 25th June after a most fantastic week. The weather was perfect as was the hotel.
Our room on the third floor, with balcony, was very well looked after with free sherry, water in fridge and fruit.
Staff in all departments were so very friendly and professional. The garden from ' The Venue" down to the hotel was lovely and well kept.
Pity we didn't stay a further week.

We had two nights here - one in a the most expensive platinum room & then the next night in their cheapest venue silver room (as no other room was available). Both rooms were excellent, although I was disappointed that the platinum room had no balcony and the sloping room in the bathroom meant no shower tall enough to stand over in the bath. The view was wonderful though & the room very large & beautiful. Arguably not worth 3X the price of the venue silver which has all the same luxuries but less space and no view but a nicer bath/shower!
Staff were highly professional and friendly and the food excellent. We did have to wait 50mins on Friday night to receive our starter though (and perhaps bread or something sent out from the chef may have made this less noticeable). All in all we had a great stay and would definitely return but next time would book a gold room with a view & a balcony.

We booked the hotel because we were attending a meeting there and incorporated this into a 4 day break. We expected an impersonal corporate style hotel but found the staff most friendly and efficient, the facilities and service excellent and the dining choices and food quality excellent. The bedroom had a sea view and balcony and was well equipped and the entire hotel was well and attractively maintained.
We shall certainly visit again. The bar service and wine choice was varied and good and the Real ale was a pleasant surprise for a hotel of this class which can so often believe ale is below the taste of their clientele when really it is below the skill of the staff.
Altogether an excellent hotel

We have now stayed at the Fermain Valley on three occasions. The hotel is situated in a fabulous setting and we had a room with a sea view and a small balcony. The rooms are well equipped, clean and have extra touches such as the free bottled water in the fridge and a number of apples. The bathrooms are excellent. However on the second night of our stay there was a large function on at the Venue and it was obvious that most of the restaurant staff have been seconded there. As a result the service in the restaurant was slow and laboured and I felt sorry for the staff who were valiantly trying to cope.
Since our last visit the restaurant and reception area have been refurbished and the improvements were well received.

My wife and I arranged a mystery break for 18 friends and the Hotel and manager could not have been more accommodating. The rooms were beautiful and well looked after with water in fridge and great views from balcony, food great and generally hotel very up to date with rock garden bar, pool/terrace and easy walk to the beach which has a little cafe. The walk into St Peters Port is realistically 40 mins along the cliff walk and 25 on the road although the busses are around 20 mins from just outside the hotel. Hotel has a courtesy bus which will collect you from airport if requested and into town if available. If we sound gushy it's because the hotel did us so proudly from start to finish on our three day break, and our group who are all hardened travellers were all blown away.
Well done keep it up and we will be back.

Just returned from a wonderful 4-night stay at this hotel. The Fermain Valley is a very upmarket but unstuffy hotel with highly professional staff. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all excellent. The weather was great which was a huge bonus but, as we had booked one of the top (platinum) rooms, we didn't have a balcony whilst the gold rooms do! The room, however, was magnificent. Wonderful location. Breakfast outside was like being in the south of France or some other exotic location. We will definitely be back (in a gold room!)

I have just recommended this hotel to a friend, who urged me to write this review as she found my feedback very helpful.
We had a wonderful five day break over Easter. This is certainly one of the nicest hotels on Guernsey. Our room on the first floor in the annex was excellent and had wonderful views over the delightful grounds and the bay beyond. Breakfast was first rate and the dinners were also of a very high standard, even better than we expected.
Beautiful decor, comfortable lounges and dining room added to our enjoyment and relaxation and the warm and welcoming staff, although felt minimal on occasions (my only negative comment), were attentive, professional and always very helpful, yet calm and friendly. A true sense of the old adage: ‘Ladies and Gentleman serving Ladies and Gentleman’.
Try and find time to stroll down to the bay its definitely worth the uphill walk (challenging for me) back and reward yourself with one of the hotels cream teas - we did!
Altogether a great break and looking forward to our next visit! (And next time we would try and take advantage of the pool – too busy this time!)

Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. The warmth and professionalism of the welcome raised expectations of an outstanding experience which was just not quite met by the overall experience. The very well appointed room was just a little tied and in need of some tlc.. The air-conditioning unbelievably noisy and we were fortunate that it was not too hot during our stay. Arriving in the early evening we were told that the restaurant was booked until after nine so chose to eat in the bar. Very good quality food but we had to asked for things too many time to feel cherished. Lovely breakfast menu but the half ordered and half buffet service was not clear and again waited for coffee & tea too long to be classed as outstanding service that the hotel seemed to aspire to. Great time in the couple of day we spent there and the walks around the coast from the hotel were breathtaking. We would go back again and if the service level was tweaked just a little this would be an outstanding destination.

This is a lovely hotel in a good location-though both would not be so good for anyone who is elderly, unfit or disabled.
We found the welcome good and friendly. The room was lovely but would have been improved by having better pillows (and a towel rail in the toilet). The windows were draughty and I would imagine that this could be a problem if the weather was cold or windy. I paid for a platinum room and this had a lovely view of the valley and the sea as well as the balcony. Quite with no one passing.
We found the seating and ordering system for breakfast strange. You could wait for about 20 mins for coffee and toast because no one thought to ask you and then wait longer for someone to take your order from the menu. Most of the orders that I could see being delivered around us were incorrect-even down to getting tea and coffee wrong. Some of the female waiting staff were rather unfriendly and I would go so far as saying slightly belligerent- definitely not helpful. Many of the staff seemed very inexperienced and a good system and some basic training would really help.
The meal that we had in the restaurant was good though not exceptional. Service was good and the waiter was friendly and engaging. Not sure whether the menu changes daily. This is always a problem for vegetarians when there are often only one or two choices.
I had told the hotel that we were returning to our honeymoon hotel after 35 years for our wedding anniversary and ordered champagne to be delivered to the room. This was brought with a card from the staff and our room was bedecked with a heart of rose petals while we were at dinner.
The pool looks a little aged and could do with refurbishing. A spa pool somewhere would be nice.
I would recommend this hotel to others and it is good but could be excellent with a few tweaks.

We stayed 4 nights here and very impressed. Yes it is not cheap but the rooms with a well provisioned hospitality tray complimentary sherry, water ,robes fruit, fudge, nice toiletries and local paper help you to feel cared for. Obviously managed by someone who cares. The gardens are a beautiful haven and constantly being tended. I swam each morning on my own for 40 minutes, I liked the fact that one side of the pool room has glass doors which opened on to the deck.Abundant big towels and toiletries in the shower area. I hate skimpy towels and those in the rooms are large white and fluffy too. The changing room is immaculately clean, I interrupted the housekeeper's work each morning. We lounged on the deck to idle away time on our last morning before a lovely lunch but expected no less as we had enjoyed great dinners and breakfasts in both restaurants previously. Prices are reasonable for the quality and they well deserve their 2 rosette. The staggeringly exception were friendly and for anyone on their own seemed to be looking out for them.

Hotel lovely, grounds superb, rooms in main hotel with balcony look great. Unfortunately we had a room in the annex by main road opposite pub. If you are stuck with such a room find another hotel!! We had our honeymoon in Guernsey and went back for 30th anniversary. For the cost we expected a lot more.
