First time trip to Guernsey and was really glad to have chosen such a great hotel. Really helpful, friendly staff and a brilliant location to relax and enjoy the views. Will definitely return. Highly recommended.

We really enjoy our holidays at this hotel. The family rooms are very large and a room with a sea view is picture postcard perfect. The gardens between the Venue and the hotel are beautifully maintained. A visit to the cinema on a rainy day is fun and there is a large selection of movies. The viewing is complete with popcorn and drinks. Breakfast is served in the main restaurant overlooking the gardens and sea and I wish we had been brave enough to eat it outdoors. The eggs florentine are cooked perfectly. In addition to hot meals there is also a lovely cold buffet. It is possible to eat healthily! The rooms are cleaned morning & evening so we were completely spoilt during our stay

We have recently returned from a 'Romantic Break 'package at the Fermain Valley Hotel, our second visit in 12 months.
We stayed in a Platinum Room overlooking the Bay and felt that the views and comfort of the room were excellent.
Food was tasty, fresh and well presented.
Service by all the staff was good, in particular we felt our driver Lucas was a good ambassador for the hotel.
Hope to return to this hotel again in the future as we have really enjoyed our little visits to Guernsey!

We stayed at this fantastic hotel for a week. Facilities were excellent, staff were friendly and helpful. Choice of food and restaurants extremely good. There is a choice of a fish or steak restaurant. You must ask for a balcony room in the main hotel as the bedrooms are beautiful and the views stunning. Fantastic coastal walks from the hotel. The coastal walks from the hotel to st peter's port is amazing. Leave the car behind as you can walk eveywhere or use the excellent hotel free shuttle car, with really helpful drivers or the local bus is only a pound. A trip down the hill to fermain bay for the beach or a drink at the beach cafe is highly recommended. It was the first holiday that my husband and I had had in years without the children and the hotel gave us all those extra luxuries that we were looking for. We will definitely be back again.

Had a 4 night break with my husband and my mum. My mum had a Platinum room ( room 15 ) which was amazing. Rather think it could have been the honeymoon suite. It was vast. Had a lovely view. Massive bed, loads of wardrobe space, the bathroom had a shower over the bath and a separate shower, 2 sinks and a separate toilet. She actually spent a full day in the room to make the most of it. Me and my husband had a silver room ( room 39 ). This was quite adequate, not a good view but we weren't bothered by it. The only drawback was when the Rock Garden Bar / Restaurant was open, the smell from the kitchen wafted up. Nice touches with the decanter of sherry (not my tipple but never mind), the complimentary toiletries were Elemis, the towels were plentiful and dried you really well. We stayed on a Half Board basis. Breakfasts were excellent. Choice of fruit juices, cereals, fruit, croissant etc, full english (we had that every day), kippers and so on. The evening meals were in the Ocean Restaurant and as the name suggests consisted of mainly seafood. There were alternative choices but not many. The Rock Garden served a vast selection of steaks. The bar in here is extremely well stocked. Cocktails are a must. We didn't eat there as it was too busy for my mum to cope with but the food looked amazing. We didn't use the pool, sauna, library, shuttle bus or the cinema so can't comment them. The tiered terrace was lovely to sit out on with a long cold beer in an afternoon. Every single member of staff was extremely polite and helpful and very friendly. My mum was in a wheelchair and they always came to help us. Nothing was too much trouble. Mr Robert Steen, the manager, was in every day and always came to have a word with us, making us feel a valued guest. I would definitely return to this hotel and have hesitation in recommending it. x

Had a lovely 3 night stay here and would definitely book again. Lovely gold room with valley view, very clean and so quiet and relaxing. Breakfast great, had a meal in the Ocean Restaurant which was very nice, not too expensive (paid more in restaurants in St Petersport!) but could have done with a little more veg, presented beautifully. Staff very obliging. Lovely small pebble beach at Fermain bay a short walk down the hill. Five minutes by car into St Petersport, a lovely town right next to the marina.

Booked this hotel as a birthday treat for my mother. Things did get off to a rocky start (no car to meet us at the airport as promised & no table booked in the restaurant as requested) but the staff could not have done more to make it up to us. The hotel was just wonderful with a great location, wonderful views and friendly staff. Our room was clean and bright and the little touches were lovely. Free car service into town was much appreciated as was the free wifi. A special mention for Romain who went out of his way to ensure our stay was memorable and to the lovely car driver who was so kind and helpful to my Mum. I hope we can return soon.

We had been invited to Guernsey by a friend who was having a birthday bash and as I knew it slightly chose the Fermain as our base for the 2 night stay. We booked the lowest grade room, which was at their annexe The Venue. Our room faced the road and included a Saturday night. There was no noise at all and we were able to sleep well in the very comfortable surroundings, with all the trimmings, including good wifi. The Fermain is a very stylish hotel and we would be happy to stay here again.

Other than breakfast we did not have a main meal in the hotel. Minor gripes included elements with breakfast service which they still haven't got quite right, judging from previous reviewers. On any busy morning they need someone going round all the time on 'refill cup of coffee duty'. The first morning we never did get one. On the second morning the table we were shown to was only half set so we had to keep asking for extra table elements to be brought to us, like sugar and butter and marmalade pots. In other words there didn't seem to be someone managing the breakfast service, which, for a 4* hotel didn't seem quite right.

Alll the staff were friendly and obliging and the free car service into town and the airport was invaluable. We hope we might return at some point, for a further visit.

We were unlucky, but at a hotel that costs this much, you shouldn't be able to be unlucky with the room. We saw two other rooms, and they were both much bigger and much nicer than ours, but ours was just plain average. The bathroom was worn and the wifi didn't work in our room (probably to far from internet router). We were so disappointed, as we had seen our friends get nice rooms. So probably in 8/10 visits this would have been great, but obviously they still have some "last resort"-rooms that they have to use when they are fully booked.

Great breakfast, clean. Nice surroundings.

I had a wonderful stay here and would not hesitate to book again. Daniel first took my booking and was so kind and helpful as I really didn't know guernsey at all. Magdalena was also wonderful at the front desk where nothing is too much trouble. My room was lovely and really comfortable. The rock garden is a great place to eat. And the hotel is ideally situated to explore Guernsey. Lucus the hotel driver is also so helpful and happy to take you to the airport or town. A perfect gentleman.

We recently spent a week at this hotel and many aspects were very good including the breakfasts, the swimming pool and the politeness of the staff. The setting too is wonderful. However our room, number 22, fell short of what we were expecting being classed as a 'gold' room. It was very cramped and had a stained and tired looking carpet. Another point worth bearing in mind is that the hotel caters for a number of functions and on returning one evening both their car parks were full and we were redirected to an unlit one down the valley sharing it with what were presumably abandoned cars. Not really four star hotel treatment I suggest.

As a regular visitor to Guernsey, my first stay at Farmain Valley may have just made it my favourite place to stay on the island. The hotel has four stars and you can expect a quality of stay and friendliness of staff that firmly reflects that.

The setting is fantastic, with the hotel on several levels facing down towards the beach - our room has a great view looking out to sea. In order to get from our room on the top level of accommodation down to the main body of the hotel is a couple of minutes walk through the beautifully laid out gardens - this might be worth bearing in mind if your mobility is not great as the path is somewhat steep, but for us it was a great way to start the day with a relaxing outdoor stroll down to breakfast. On the subject of which, the breakfast was the other star of the show - huge range of continental and cooked options; I opted for three different fish options on each of our three mornings there.

Our room was huge with a double bed plus sofa and table, plus plenty of room for our travelcot. Complimentary sparking water, fruit and sherry (!) were all nice touches. The facilities are good - we tried both restaurants and made full use of the pool, sauna and terrace. Apparently for the motivated you can walk down the valley to the beach should you wish.

The hotel is on the flight path for planes approaching the airport but unless you are very averse to noise this isn't too much of an issue as no large planes fly into Guernsey. It was warm enough for us to sleep with the windows open during our stay and we weren't disturbed at any time. Location-wise, it is generally in a fairly quiet area - maybe a 30 minute walk into St Peter POrt (uphill on the way back it should be noted). The Fermain Tavern pub is very close by and is decent for a couple of drinks should you wish to stay locally.

Overall, a great place to stay in Guernsey.

We spent three nights at the hotel and wouldn't hesitate to return to it on a visit to the island in future. You can always find minutia to moan about but the main things are done well at Fermain Valley. The staff were friendly and attentive but unobtrusive. We were never kept waiting when being served our meals. The food was delicious and we liked the contrast of atmospheres between the Ocean and Rock Garden restaurants. The Rock Garden was a real surprise, hidden away on the first floor and offering an excellent selection of steaks. We also took meals from the Terrace Menu which we ate in one of the more informal areas. This menu is also available for room service and there is no charge for that service. We had a room with a balcony and wonderful valley and sea view. I would recommend such a room. The complimentary bottled water in the fridge and fudge to greet us was welcomed.
Addressing some of the concerns I've read. Having a pool available to use was preferable to having it closed for the touching up work that needs doing. Several times we had the pool to ourselves. The complimentary car service is often available, but if it's not there's a bus stop at the top of the road and a trip only costs £1. We walked to and from St Peter Port and thought the hotel was in a good position on the island. The walk back was a bIt of a challenge, but a useful way to work off various indulgences, one being the lemon cheesecake cocktail from the Rock Garden!
We enjoyed watching the planes when they went by, it didn't disturb us at all.
We felt that if you had any request, everything would be done within the realms of possibility to meet it.
We frequently stay in some of the most recommended hotels, there are some of those we wouldn't return to, but we would to this one. We had a really relaxing time.

We stayed at this hotel at the end of July for5 nights. We chose the hotel because of the idyllic setting- however are accommodation was in the Venue close to the main road and local tavern. The venue is a beautiful building with well presented rooms. Our room was a silver room and was smaller than we had expected. There were very well maintained gardens leading to the main hotel which was also well maintained. The Ocean restaurant served good quality fish dishes and the rock Garden( very popular with locals) served fabulous steaks. The terrace was a great place for breakfast and lunch. There was a short but very steep walk through the gardens to a small stoney beach. The beach cafe was superb and served alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. There were also homemade savoury dishes and desserts. It was also accessible to visitors by boat or coastal paths. I would stay at this hotel again but would prefer a room facing the gardens or the sea!

A luxury hotel distinguished by its first-rate staff who go to great efforts to make you feel welcome. We had a gold room with balcony overlooking the garden and with a sea view. The room, although a little 'tight' with the amount of furniture in it, was very comfortable. The hotel is older than some and lacked the multiplicity of power points that appear in establishments built more recently but was adequate in this respect. Great service and attention to detail. One could relax inside or outside on the serviced patio area. A choice of two restaurants with good food. A very peaceful location with a frequent bus service into St Peter Port for those without a car. We enjoyed the cliff walk into the town. Strongly recommended.

Stayed in the fermain valley with our 2 sons in the family room. overall a lovely experience with very attentive staff. However like other reviews there are a few annoying issues with the family room.
Namely noise and smoke from the bar below and noisey ineffective air con.

It also seemed to us that the restaurant staff were all either new or just uncooordinated. It took more than an hour to get our starter one night. The restaruant seemed in disarray this night while the restaurant manager was playing games on the computer in reception.

HOWEVER things got steadily better and by the end it was certainly living up to its star rating.

We would definitely return.

Stayed here for 3 days to attend a friends wedding. The reception was also held at the wedding which made it extra convenient. We stayed in a gold room with a lovely balcony view. The room was lovely, and the little touches like the toiletries, sherry, bottled water and fruit really were the icing on the cake. The staff really go out of their way to help and nothing is too much trouble. They even provide a shuttle bus for residents. Lovely quiet beach about 20 mins walk from the hotel too. I wouldn't hesitate to return to this hotel if I visit guernsey again. I can surely say this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in!

Wery hot room! The ventilation system was extremely loud, and the balcony door in our family room was straight above their popular restaurant Rock garden. You could also hear the planes pretty good from the room. A strange place to locate guests visiting with an infant.

The room was spacious and pretty, and except for the heat and noice, and the fact that the TV that was hanging wery "child-friendly" approxomately 60 cm from the floor, it was a good family room. Hotel staff was friendly. Hotel was clean. Breakfast good! Swimmingpool was ok. In need of a bit maintenance where the mosaiq was falling off the walls. Coach to the airport was excellent, and they provided a child seat for us.

All in all it was ok, but would not go back, as the price indikates that it should be a bit more than ok. Maybe it would be better in the winter...

I had the pleasure to stay in this Hotel in February. We had originally planned to go in May however due to a family health issue the holiday had to be brought forward. This was done without any problem at all. The Hotel was absolutely superb as were the staff. The views of the ocean were breath taking. Food was delicious. Due to the bad weather our ferry was cancelled until the following day. We explained this to the hotel and they were wonderful. We stayed another night, I could easily have stayed a lot longer. I definitely plan to return to this hotel.

First, the gold rooms are not the only ones with a balcony. We had a platinum, which was large and a balcony directly overlooking the bay. Whereas, to me if the gold rooms were not in the right position, you would not see the bay and they are a lot smaller that is why they are cheaper.

We ate in the Ocean restaurant our first night from a la carte menu, so food was very good even though service slap dash. Surprisingly no bread supplied on the table and was told we could have some but it is not standard to offer, very strange! We ate out the remainder of our time, as Guerney has so much to offer in the way of lovely restaurants. Breakfast was hit and miss but quite a good choice.

Our room was very hot and stuffy which the management knew about as we brought it to their attention straightaway. A fan had been supplied which did not really help. Apparently, it was to do with the warm weather Guernsey was having, but by looking at previous reviews, this is not the first time Guernsey has had the sun, thus making the rooms very uncomfortable in the past also! The management are looking at getting air con units in, so there must have been many complaints. TLC was needed in our room 27, again this has been brought to the attention of the management so we will not go into any detail as they know the problems.

The few times we tried to use the courtesy bus, it was unavailable, even though when we returned to the hotel it was parked up, unused. So take that service with a pinch of salt. You can definitely use it for the airport run.

The walk to St Peter Port from the hotel is approx 40 minutes but not for those with difficulty in walking as it is up and down hill, breathtaking as it is.

The hotel is right in the flight path, so be prepared for the odd plane overhead. Some reviewers have been going over the top regarding the plane noise but they were not going over every 10 minutes!

Finally, I must compliment Lukas, the airport driver and Daniel on the front desk. What excellent customer service given by both of them and perfect gentlemen.

We shall not be returning to this hotel.

We had an extremely relaxed week at Fermain Valley Hotel and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. If we rang reception for anything it was dealt with immediately. We ate twice in the Ocean Bar which we enjoyed but the highlight was our meal in the Rock Garden as the steaks were the best we have ever had. There were one or two hiccups with breakfast but if the buffet breakfast is not to your liking the waiters are quite happy to ask the chef to cook your bacon and sausage for you, eggs are done this way at all times. The pancakes and crispy bacon were brill. The flightpath did not bother us at all and even though it was a hot week we did not need air conditioning in the room as leaving the window open was sufficient. We had a gold room with balcony and must admit a little TLC is required with regards to stains on the carpet and one of the chairs and peeling paint on the inside of the bathroom door. But this did not spoil it for us. Robert, the Manager, is very approachable and has a good team. We did not use the pool enough but did enjoy our visit. The cinema is quite large and is in The Venue building separate from the main hotel. The walk to the beach is downhill through shaded woodland opening out to the beach cafe and the spotless shaled bay. Little touches like the decanter of sherry and fresh fruit daily and the fudge on arrival are very welcome. We would love to stay again if in Guernsey in the future.

Three day stay in a gold room with balcony
Location. elevated position with distant views of the sea and surrounded by trees
Room- small and not air-conditioned, although fan provided on request.
Restaurant- some dishes excellent but some disappointing.
Public areas- Lounge comfortable and well appointed. Summer terrace area lacked ambiance and alfresco dinning (particularly dinner) off wooden slatted tables detracted form the experience.
Relaxation area limited with only three loungers or comfort chairs left little for a summer outdoor experience.
Staff- faultless and very helpful.

This is a difficult review to write. Fermain Valley Hotel has everything going for it; fabulous location, very fine room, especially the Platinum Level, beautiful views from the terrace,....BUT the staff could be so much better. It's not that they don't care...they just need more training for consistency! There were no smiles or a warm welcome when we checked in. The staff appeared very frazzled even though the hotel is not very large. One morning we asked for more coffee...4 times, and never did receive it! There were a few moments when we felt like in a "Faulty Towers" episode; albeit, a luxury one! I know with a few tweaks here and there this hotel can be at the very top on the Island for sure! I wish them the best.
The Cliff Walks on this side of the island are superb and walkable from the hotel.

This is a stunning hotel which is let down by only 2 things.
1 the flight path for the island goes directly over the hotel and the first flight is at 6.30 am. I wouldn't mind this if the hotel owned up to it and reduced their prices accordingly.

2. the hotel staff (apart from Magdalena) are completely disinterested and not at all friendly. This is in complete contrast to other hotels and restaurants we visited during our stay.

Otherwise this is a great base from where to explore the island.

This hotel used to be well run and had excellent standards but it is now a very average hotel. The often encountered tepid, poorly cooked 'hot' bacon and sausages, stewing in metal containers are what are now offered for breakfast with dining room staff who seemed to be bickering over who did what.
The rooms are still well appointed but I expect the maintenance standards will slip.
