This is a gorgeous hotel in a stunning setting. A steep walk down to Fermain Bay is a must when you first arrive and you can refuel at the little beach cafe before making the return climb or walking along the cliffs and coastal path to St Peter Port (thoroughly recommended). My 9-year-old son loved the hotel pool and cinema and we we more than happy with our room. Staff are polite but not over-bearing and a courtesy car or bus was often available to ferry guests around. Nothing was too much trouble. We''ll definitely be heading back.

I am a fairly frequent visitor to Fermain Valley Hotel when on business in Guernsey. The location is great but I don't much of an opportunity to enjoy it as I tend to arrive late and leave early.

The rooms are a decent size although those in the annex are slightly smaller than those in the main hotel. Also they are quite a trek away. Rooms are clean although the lack of aircon can mean that they get stuffy quickly. Staff are very attentive.

Downsides are patchy wifi and rooms could do with more plug points, I normally end up having to unplug the fridge for a period of time in order to plug in all of my devices.

We went to a Wedding at this hotel and it was a great location. The hotel is split into two parts. There is the main part of the hotel in the Fermain Valley section, and then there is the Venue which has a small cinema and function / conference rooms as well as guest bedrooms. We were in the Venue section for the wedding party. We had booked a room on the hotel Web Site which was very easy and straightforward. Upon arrival, you have to go to the Fermain Valley part of the hotel to check in, and this is a small walk down the hill through the well maintained and beautiful gardens. We then walked back up the hill to the upper part pf the hotel. The room was lovely with a great view over the valley, and beyond to the sea and neighbouring islands. For the category of room, the bathroom was a little on the small side. That having been said there was complimentary sherry and water in the room, along with slippers and a bathrobe, as well as a selection of toiletries. There is tea and coffee facilities in the room as well as an iron. The location lends itself really well to this sort of party. There is a large balcony off the main function room, and below this there is a terraced area with grass and seating. There is also a greenhouse where the hotel gowns some of its own food. To get a meal you have to go back down to the Fermain Valley section of the hotel, where the main restaurant is. This is fine if it is not raining and will help you work up an appetite.
All in all the establishment is great, and the staff were most accommodation and helpful. There is no air-conditioning in the rooms, and I guess in summer they may get a little warm. You can open the windows, but the hotel is on the main flight path and so if the wind is westerly, the planes will fly over the hotel , and with the windows open this may be a little bit noisy.

We couldn't fault the staff or the hotel. It's a lovely place and the staff are so friendly and efficient. The courtesy car was very useful, picking us up from the airport and dropping us off in St Peter Port when we wanted. The room (a silver junior suite) was lovely and accommodated my wife and I and our two children perfectly.

The Fermain Valley hotel has had a good reputation for many years now and it still deserves this reputation. Other reviews on this site cover it pretty well. The staff are helpful, professional and good natured - well done to all of them that we met. The courtesy car service was particularly useful to us and even collected us from "Town" at 10.15 at night!

Now - a few tips. If you require a turndown service or any other options, make sure you tick the correct box/s on your registration card CLEARLY on arrival. If you forget and do not do this you may find it difficult to rectify this later. The computor does not apparently accept changes easily so we were informed. I asked twice, was assured that the service would be provided for the rest of our stay but it was not. In my opinion this system is not good enough for such an otherwise excellent hotel and was mildly annoying. A system which cannot be updated easily on the spot is "not worthy of its hire"

The Rock Garden is a rather trendy steak bar - very well done (no pun intended) it must be said. It has a really good atmosphere and is "Jumping" at the weekends, so if you need a table book early
Some of the main building Silver rooms are pretty close to it , so for peace and quiet go for Gold or Platinum rooms.

The gold rooms are excellent and CLEAN! If you are a light sleeper beware of a top floor room (early 30 numbers) affected by early morning noise from the, I believe, large hot water boiler which lurks somewhere at the rear and came on EARLY, around 4AM in our case. It awoke us with a start.
If in doubt check when booking to avoid this problem.

These notes are meant to be helpful NOT a critisism of an otherwise excellent hotel.

Fermain Bay,considered one of the best on the island, is just down the lane from the hotel and reached on foot. It is not to be missed

My wife, our friend and I returned from a five night stay at the Fermain Valley Hotel at the beginning of September.

Unfortunately the silver room that I booked was in an annexe of the hotel (THE VENUE) which was a short but steep walk away from the main Hotel and I was not advised that it was unsuitable for disabled people as there was no lift.

Gavin very kindly relocated us into the main building for four of the five nights.

Next time I book (and there will definately be a next time) I will make sure to book a Gold
Room, with a balcony, in the main building.

All the staff, (from every corner of Europe including Wales) the managers, receptionists,
waiters/waitresses, barmen (Ocean Bar & Rock Garden), domestic cleaners and the drivers
of the complementary courtesy transport were very friendly, courteous and professional.

We all found the breakfasts and evening meals in the Ocean restaurant to be varied,
faultless and sufficient. Full marks to the kitchen staff. One night I asked for a T bone steak,
it wasn’t on the menu but they managed to find me one, cooked to a 'T'.

We; three senior, young at heart, wrinklies, used the cocktail bar at the Rock garden most
Evenings partaking of Sam’s cocktails, if you like cucumber with your Hendricks gin you must
try his “ LILLY PAD” cocktail. It was such a pity, that as residents, we were unable to book a table in the Rock
restaurant.
The restaurant appeared to be booked by a majority of non- residents,  I can’t fault them! All I would suggest is,
if you are planning a stay at the Fermain and you enjoy a steak from around the world, you
 should contact the
hotel several weeks before your holiday and book a table. Especially for Saturday nights.
  I WILL!!!

We have just returned from a very enjoyable 5 night stay at the Fermain Valley Hotel. The staff in the hotel and restaurants are among the best that we have met anywhere - friendly, helpful and very efficient. Our first night was spent in a Gold room before moving to a Platinum room (none were available for our first night when I booked). Both rooms were very pleasant, spacious, comfortable and with a view of the beautiful bay. Unfortunately they both also had the same issue - stains on the cream carpet! (as did my sister's rooms) so this would appear to be a common problem in the hotel. Otherwise they were spotlessly clean. We ate in both the Ocean restaurant and the Rock Garden and the food was excellent, lots of choice and pleasingly presented. In fact despite eating in several other restaurants in St Peter Port we all agreed that the best meals we had were here.

When you sit down and have to pick a hotel from a long list, it is sometimes a bit of a gamble. Well, we were not disappointed with the Fermain Valley Hotel. On our arrival the lady Receptionist dashed out and helped with the bags and subsequent to booking us in, she showed us to our room. That was the level of help we received throughout our stay.

The hotel is at the top of a valley with lovely views from some of the tables in the restaurant and all of the tables outside on the veranda. It is out of town, but they operate their own car to the airport or St Peter Port. There is sufficient parking if you choose to hire a car. There are 2 restaurants and these are very popular with residents and the public, so booking a table is essential, especially on the first night. Our room was most comfortable, but we were slightly disappointed that we did not have a balcony as most seem to. The lounges and library are well furnished and the hotel boasts its own cinema, but we did not test that. There are good grounds to walk around also.
There is a bus stop a short walk away and the main bus station is on the sea front in St Peter Port along with a host of restaurants.( The Tennerfest is on until 11th November and is excellent value).
Lastly, the Manager and his staff should be congratulated as this hotel, to my eyes, was superbly maintained and all of the staff were most helpful.

Stayed in August for four nights in a platinum room, first class facilities and very nicely decorated, the bathroom was spacious and modern. We ate in the hotel each day for a good breakfast which set us up for the walking we had planned. The meals in the restaurant in the evening were first class. The staff at reception recommended a restaurant in Guernsey which we ate at twice as it was first class! I would like to say that the staff were amazing and really went out of their way to make our stay memorable!! Well done all....

We chose a room in the main hotel and not the annexe, this was a good idea because the hill climb to the annexe from the main hotel where all the services are, is steep.

Silver room - spacious and very clean. The daily clean/tidy service was excellent. The decanter of sherry in the room was a nice and much appreciated touch. The two restaurants were both very good (we unbeknown arrived at the beginning of October and benefited from the annual Tennnerfest season, which meant the meals were extremely good value - a pleasant bonus!

All staff were excellent. Out of our 4 day stay we had 2 rainy mornings and the hotel lounges proved very comfotable and hospitable.

It was our 19th wedding anniversary and was trying to find something different in Jersey to treat my wife. Wanting a little more than a local overnight stay we booked the Fermain in Guernsey based on the fact that I had stayed there on business the year before and was impressed. None more so than when we arrived we were greeted with complimentary anniversary champagne and a card from the management. We booked a beautiful meal in their new steakhouse, which I believe is probably the best in Guernsey, and returned to our turned down room with rose petals covered over our bed in the room. Unfortunately I couldn't take the credit for such loving care and service! but nothing was too much bother and the staff were some of the best I have experienced in hotels globally. The remote secluded bay/café is a must for that quiet getaway and to complete the stay their porter drove us back to town for our departure. I don't normally give out 5 stars but I cannot the fault the hotel, management and staff. We booked the platinum room and was not disappointed! Can't wait to get back there for a mini trip! Thanks Fermain staff..

It was our 46th wedding anniversary and I booked this hotel as a package offered by them inclusive, 3nts B&B with 1 evening meal and return flights from Bristol. I would say that from pre-arranged airport pick up to the final day everything was superb. All staff were friendly and nothing was too much bother. The manager Robert was always in attendance and ensured that everything ran smoothly. The rooms were very clean and well equipped, no shortage of refreshments and even a decanter of sherry. Lovely views and a quiet location, even aircraft overflying into the airport was hardly noticeable . The two hotel restaurants served high quality food at comparable prices, the breakfast was also very good part buffet and cooked to your requirements. For our anniversary day there was a card, a bottle of bubbly and red rose petals scattered over the bed, a lovely touch. There is an indoor pool, sauna, reading lounge and library, all immaculate. One of the best hotels I have stayed.

This hotel was set in lovely gardens and had a wonderful view of Fermain Bay from the terrace. The staff were friendly, lovely comfortable lounge area and a small library with books to loan. Had two restaraunts but we only tried the one on our stay. The Ocean, food was excellent, mainly fish as name would suggest but did also serve steaks. The price were a little high for us to eat in the restaraunt every evening but no higher than an average price in England. Our room was spotlessly clean but a little on the small side but that may be because it was probably a budget priced room. The downside to the stay was the fact we were put in the annex although we were aware of this before our visit and was also informed that it was a bit of a slope from annex to hotel. We did feel it was a bit of a trek backwards and forwards from room to hotel and the slope was indeed very steep had we known how steep we would have paid extra for a room in the main building as my husband has a slight foot disability. I did explain this to receptionist and was told that the shuttle bus if available would take us up the slope. The room was also not in a very good position if you required peace and quiet. It was on a busy main road and opposite a pub that was noisey also next to The Venue which held a wedding reception and a birthday party both going on late.

We stayed here for 4 nights and have found it to be a really beautiful, good value hotel. We'd like bigger beds but that's difficult because of the way in which the rooms were designed originally. I think that will be addressed when a makeover takes place. It's impossible to fault the staff, the welcome, the cleanliness or the situation. We will certainly return.

The Fermain Valley hotel is a quaint boutique hotel situated close to the airport atop a hill, overlooking the picturesque Fermain Valley. The staff members were all very friendly and accommodating.

Our room was small but comfortable and well decorated (room 30).The downside to the room was no airconditioning and as the room faces the sun the whole day, the nights were uncomfortably warm. I do believe the hotel is making plans to install airconditioning units soon.
I loved that they had complimentary sherry in the rooms to enjoy out on your balcony in the evenings.
The bathroom was tiny but functional and hair and body products provided (Elemis).
The hotel has two restaurants of which one is a steak house and the other seafood. We ate only at the Ocean as the Rock Garden is not open for business on Sundays. ( we arrived on Saturday and departed Monday morning ) The food was of good standard and the restaurant atmosphere pleasant. For lunch the terrace was lovely to soak up the autumnal sunshine whilst enjoying a chilled glass of wine.
To do: the hotel offers an indoor heated pool and sauna. Take a walk through the beautiful gardens down to the Fermain Valley beach and enjoy a meal or drink at the beach caffe' ( during summer season only). The beach caffe' is cleverly situated over a WW11 German lookout post. For those who enjoy hiking, take a walk around the cliffs to St Peter Port ( about an hour's walk).
Shopping can be done in St Peter Port and the hotel offers complementary shuttle service into town ( 5 minutes drive). There is plenty to do in and around St. Peter Port. Visit the castle or take a day trip out to either Sark Island or Herm Island on a ferry ( £12.00 per adult)

For those who are noise sensitive, please note that planes fly low overhead, coming in for landing and taking off. The earliest flights start at around 6:50 am.

All in all we enjoyed our weekend away and will stay at the Fermain Valley hotel again on future visits.

Came here for a 70th birthday surprise for my dad. We couldn't fault the rooms, all are beautifully appointed some with balconies, each are provided with complimentary sherry and plenty of tea and coffee. The customer service is top notch and they even provise a shuttle service from the airport which is a short ride away. Down the hill from the hotel is Fermain Bay where we had a paddle in the sea and a drink at the cafe, the food looks good there too. It's a nice stroll into St Peter Port where there are nice restaurants and lots of shops. If you want a trip round the island you can get on the bus for £1 which gives you a good idea of what else is available in the vicinity. The hotel restaurant is also very good, there was 10 of us eating on the Saturday night and we were well catered for with a varied menu. We had a morning swim both mornings before breakfast and had a swim and sauna on Saturday afternoon. Both evenings we were able to use one of the lounge areas to have coffee and liqueurs before bed. I can't praise this place enough and can't wait to go back there again.

Very impressed with Fermain Valley Hotel and would visit again.
Really good restaurants within the hotel itself ,where it felt you were in a restaurant in town with a nice atmosphere.
Rooms are comfortable. Had a Silver Room on the top floor as unfortunately all other rooms were taken at time of booking but was of good standard even without a view. You have a great one when you have breakfast, lunch or dinner.....
Fermain has lovely well kept gardens and there is a pretty beach right at the end of it with a further short walk.
Service was good overall - just a couple of things to mention that could be improved maybe? no outdoor shoes in the pool area and no access for people having business lunch parties outside where they can go and sit on their phones where people are swimming. Pool area we thought was for quiet and also it compromises cleanliness when you can come and go in outdoor shoes and use the toilets from the outside instead of walking just a little further into toilet in reception area.
A great touch having a shuttle service at the hotel and it's those little touches that encourage people to return.

Once again we have stayed here in this lovely hotel. Beautiful and clean, I can vouch that the maids do a brilliant job as I was laid up for three days with a bad back, I watched them clean the room and they did a brilliant job, so unfortunately I wasn't firing on all cylinders unlike the Harley Fat Bay that was (private joke) Tony was in the car park so just saw you. Robert and his crew do a fabulous job, the staff are all friendly and very polite, and my comments haven't changed since last years review. A lovely hotel to stay in, and anyone who says different isn't on the same planet as us.
Best wishes to you all at Feirmain and hopefully we will see you again the spring.

Have just returned from enjoying a wonderful 3 night stay at this lovely hotel. It was my gorgeous girlfriend, s first visit to the island and from the moment we stepped into the reception on Thursday afternoon to leaving Sunday we both can, t fault anything from the staff, room, food to the view from the terrace/balcony. Ended Saturday evening with a birthday cake being brought to the table for me which with girlfriend,s help and hotels assistance it was all organised. Can't wait both of us to come back again soon

We spent four days at the hotel. The welcome and service were excellent from arrival to departure. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had wonderful food in the Ocean restaurant. The Rock restaurant is open in the evenings from Tuesday to Saturday. It is advisable to book a table at both restaurants as they are fraternised by locals as well as guests of the hotel. if you are a steak eater then the Rock is for you. The hotel has free Wifi but it is being upgraded as some areas of the hotel it is impossible to connect. This is not a hotel for young children because of the steep steps and path to the beach. There is free car transport from the hotel to St Peter Port but pre book with reception as it is used regularly by hotel guests. A very relaxing and comfortable few days.

I am rarely happy when arriving at an hotel, particularly, it seems, fairly expensive ones!
I usually want to change rooms and things go downhill from there.
On arriving at the fremain valley we were bowled over by the view. Check in was painless and our room was spectacular. Huge, beautifully decorated and with that view. The bed was very comfortable, the bath towels just the right size and with lovely bathroom products.
The hotel is situated at the top of a valley and it is an easy walk down to a beach and beach bar
There is some aircraft noise but that is impossible to change and they are hardly jumbo jets

We stayed here just for one night before taking up our other accommodation for our holiday. In a previous life as the Favorita we had stayed here for two weeks over a 20year period .

Beautiful refurbishment to the hotel without losing its character. Fantastic service from the manager, Robert Steen.

We ate in the Ocean Restaurant on the night and the food and value was excellent. We also went back later in the holiday with friends to eat in the Rock Garden and that was excellent value and service too..

Obviously this is top quality and top price accommodation - you get what you pay for!

Stayed last year - excellent. My rating would be good - but not allowed to rate that above. This year let down by food and waiter service. There were technical problems in the kitchen - took 4 days to repair. This meant reduced choice of food. Menu not varied enough on daily basis. Unclear on menu of choice of veg. On two occasions my wife ordered fish which arrived lukewarm and without veg - we were compensated in full though. On another occasion veg was ordered but not brought to us until 10 mins through meal. My order for breakfast was wrong on 4 occasions. One waitress really struggled to understand English. Encouraged on menu to enquire about "specials" but usually consisted of 1 choice! On one occasion one meal offered, but they had run out of fish! No vegetarian option on menu.
Really nice hotel though - very clean and excellent service by housemaid. Apart from some dining staff, all really helpful and friendly. The manager is great - a good listener and very keen to ensure your stay is a good one.
We would return, but would expect better food and a more varied menu on a daily basis with more detail as to what exactly comes with the meal.
Very, very beautiful Island.

We have just returned from a short break at this hotel. As this was a special wedding anniversary for us we tried to make sure that everything was right. beforehand by phoning the hotel to confirm the check in time. Nevertheless when we arrived at 11.30am we were told our room would not be ready until 2.00pm Unfortunately the room was not ready by this time and we did become a little frustrated when we observed other couples checking in after our arrival and being shown to their rooms. We eventually gained access to our room ( room 26) at approx 2.30pm and whilst the view from the bedroom window was stunning, the stains on the carpet were a big let down for us. To be fair when we informed Gavin, the manager, he arranged for the carpet to be cleaned immediately but we really did not expect a four star hotel to rely on their customers to inform them of cleanliness issues.
On the plus side the rest of the room was spotless and the bed very comfortable. There were nice touches with the fresh fruit, the sherry and the small box of fudge. The public areas in the hotel were also beautiful with two very comfy lounges with the bonus of a library.
We ate in the Ocean restaurant on a couple of occasions and also had a bar meal. Unfortunately we did not feel there was much choice on the menu and little or no vegetables were served with the meals. We also found the majority of staff in the restaurant to be rather stand offish but again on the plus side we did not have to wait too long for our meals to be served.
The hotel itself is situated down a single track lane and vehicle access can be a little problematic at busy times.
