The initial experience at reception was daunting and each time we approached, only ever one person on and if there were two they would both be dealing with the same customer and ignoring others waiting.

Once you get to the desk the experience becomes much more enjoyable. Lovely helpful and interested staff, they could not have been nicer.

The rooms are immaculate and bright. The shower was superb, like having a massage it was so powerful.

The bar and restaurant staff were amazing, so helpful, nothing too much trouble.

The food was very nice with a nice menu well made and served.

Overall we had a lovely stay and would recommend to everyone.

Thanks to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

You cannot overstate the location of this hotel - its is high up in the valley so the views are amazing, the landscaped gardens are a delight and then you can walk down the hill to Fermain bay beach were you can walk along the cliff path one way to St Peters Port and the other way to Jerbourg and enjoy continuous stunning views and flora. We had the platinum room, these are the ones big enough for extra beds for children. It is a beautiful room, full of facilities, huge bed, lovely decor and great shower! The swimming pool is lovely and warm and has stunning views. The kids loved exploring all the knooks and crannies of the hotel.

There appears to be mixed views on the customer service and I just wanted to back up the negative ones. We were shocked by the lack of customer service. None of the staff we encountered smiled or anticipated a conversation or request. Hotel staff normally look up in general when they see a guest approaching and and ask if they can help - this is what is lacking. We never experienced table service on the terrace so spent 10 mins at least waiting at the counter in the tea room or at the bar with staff passing by - I am paying for a 4*hotel, I'm not down the high street!! Enquring about using the cinema on Sunday was painful and it was poor service in the Ocean restaurant - they just don't ask if you want anything ie desserts or more drinks. We started to wonder if being that laid back was intentional - ie not being too invasive.

I would recommend you stay here as there are good customer service reviews below (even from people who stayed there the same time as us) but maybe some customer service training is required for some staff. On a plus side there was a birthday card for my husband on our table on our first night which is a very nice touch. The lack of customer service didn't spoil our stay, we all still had a great holiday.

Lovely room, friendly and helpful staff, great views. Couldn't ask for more, thoroughly enjoyed our time away and would not hesitate to recommend. Platinum room was well worth it, absolutely lovely. If you prefer more relaxed dining would recommend Ocean restaurant over steak house but food equally good.

An amazing mini break!

The first thing to strike us was the Hotel's stunning location - overlooking the Fermain Valley and sea. It's also an attractive looking building, with some lovely little quirks, due to the way it's built in the valley .

From the moment we arrived we felt at home (if only home was a beautiful Hotel!) and welcomed by friendly staff. Check in was very easy at the Reception.

All the public areas are so stylish and clean - and with nooks and crannies to explore, such as the library and even its own Tea Room (full of goodies to enjoy!) It is truly unique.

Our bedroom was just fabulous . The sea views were stunning and being woken by birdsong (so many different birds) was a perfect start to the day. There were lots of special little touches too- including a decanter of Sherry! The room was decorated in a lovely classic style and was large (we even had a very sweet entrance area where the wardrobes were) and clean. The bathroom too was modern and big.

As above, the location is fabulous and we loved the walk to stunning Fermain Bay, especially the magnificent gardens, with all the unusual and colourful plants . Looking back towards the Hotel as you go towards the Bay shows how impressive these are. There is a second Garden the other side of the Hotel and this is also full of bright and beautiful flowers. The walk to the Bay is about 5 minutes down (either through the gardens /very pretty cliff path-where the first glimpse of the Bay below is gorgeous) or the road. The walk back up took about 10-15 minutes, depending on the route! The Bay itself is absolutely stunning - a hidden gem. There is a pebble beach, very blue waters and a beach cafe. We went down a few times during our stay at different times of the day and each time we loved it. St Peter Port is a 5-10 minute drive and a shuttle is sometimes available, although we didn't use it, as we'd hired a car (there are three car parks dotted around so parking isn't an issue).

We ate in The Ocean Restaurant and this was fabulous. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the food and the very good selection of wine. The food itself was wonderful - beautifully cooked, fresh and just a real teat. The decor is stylish and cosy - almost French Bistro style. We also enjoyed a post dinner coffee on the terrace (where blankets are provided for the colder evenings). We sat on the terrace in the day too, with a drink (sometimes from the Tea Room, sometimes from the well stocked bar!) and the views are breathtaking.

Breakfast is also served in this restaurant and, again, was excellent. We helped ourselves to a good selection of cereals, fruit, pastries etc and the main breakfast was - unusually and very nicely - cooked to order. I sampled both the Full English and Eggs Benedict!

The Rock Garden is the second restaurant and, although we didn't eat there, we enjoyed delicious post dinner cocktails. We sat in the quirky garden itself, which is cosy and warm, even at night. The Rock Garden as a venue would rival any bar in town - modern and stylish, with music playing and a good vibe.

Both restaurants seem to be popular with locals too - always a good recommendation!

I also enjoyed a daily swim, again with those stunning valley views. The pool isn't massive but is a very decent size for a Hotel pool. We were often the only two in there and the water was warm, plus there is a sauna. A walk to the Bay followed by a swim made for the perfect start to the day!

We fell in love with both the Hotel and the island and will be back!

Just had a fabulous 5 days at the Fermain, brilliantly run, fantastic staff, location superb, food wonderful, ticks pretty much every box. Both restaurants are superb with a lovely ambience and vibe. The staff without exception are friendly, efficient and make you feel comfortable and at home. We have enjoyed every minute of our stay. If I have to give a slight negative and it is only a slight negative, we were a little disappointed with our bathroom, very small and a bit tired in places but a minor issue in the scheme of things, we have loved our stay and we do plan on returning.

I come here with work. Lovely quiet location (note you need a taxi to go into town) with a short walk to the lovely secluded bay. Good views from many rooms.
Good bar with snacks and many outdoor seats.
Rooms well appointed and spotless. Lovely.
Breakfast in room in amazing.
For meetings it has a separate meeting venue which is handy and works well

Had an amazing week in Guernsey staying at Fermian valley. We stayed in the Venue and the room was great. The room was lovely and breakfast was great with lots of choice. The gardens were lovely and really added to the stay.

Best Thai food I think I have ever had, really fresh and delicious flavours. View across the gardens and out to sea is beautiful. Good service, just the right pace for lunch. Gardens were nice for the children to explore.

We were a party of 10 with 3 little excited children and a baby.
The food was superb (including my veggie meal - only 1 choice of main course, as is usual everywhere).
But it's the grounds of the hotel that are breathtaking. I felt as if we'd been transported to a tropical hideaway. Lots of twisting paths and beautiful plants to discover, and a ground level tree house - that really enchanted me and the little children.

The Easter Egg Hunt was carefully monitored by the staff to keep it fair for the different ages taking part. It was an absolute joy to see the children's faces as they found all the Easter Eggs.

I'll certainly be back. Even if there's only one thing on the menu that I can eat,
I'm sure it will be delicious.

This is the perfect place to relax and de-stress, everything about it is lovely. Large, beatifully decorated rooms with tea, coffee, biscuits and sherry!! Set in the lovely Fermain valley with the sound of the sea outside and wonderful walks down to the beach and on the cliffs. We dined in the Ocean restaurant and the steak was delicious, the staff attentive and friendly. A visit to the Rock Garden bar for a nightcap proved that you don't need to go outside the hotel to enjoy yourselves but if you did want to go into town there is a free courtesy shuttle bus. We loved our short stay and can't wait to go again when we will hopefully have time to use the spa facilities.

The location is in a stunning setting with marvelous views down the valley to the sea. We were on a single overnight break and upgraded to a Platinum room, which was large and tastefully decorated to provide a calm and relaxed atmosphere with great views down into the valley below.
The staff were all friendly, smiley and approachable, they seemed genuinely happy to help you and to work there.
We enjoyed afternoon tea, then later pre-dinner cocktails in the Rock Garden, which was starting to get busy and had a great vibe, then dinner in the Ocean restaurant that was an oasis of calm and peace. The food was beautifully presented and was of a high standard. We finished off with coffee and liquors in the bar.
We awoke to the Dawn chorus of a cacophony of birds, a relaxing start before a very nice breakfast of Eggs Benedict and great coffee, so good I had a second pot!
We will return.

As the name suggests the Fermain Valley Hotel is set at the top of a valley which runs down to the sea. The hotel, probably built as a manor house, has been beautifully refurbished while retaining some original features. Our room, an upgraded Platinum room was beautifully appointed and had very nice touches such as a decanter of sherry and good ground coffee with a cafetiere. It also had a separate toilet as well as a large bathroom. There was an excellent 'turn down service' and the level of service overall was very good.

We had an overnight stay in a silver room overlooking the valley and Fermain Bay. The room was very light and airy with a balcony, fruit, sherry & chocolate, plus free wi-fi. It also had a lovely large bed, coffee & tea making facilities, plus bottled water and a fridge. The only downside is there is no air-con so can get quite hot in the room. We had a great afternoon tea in the Valley Tea Rooms. Later we had cocktails in the bar before enjoying a wonderful 3 course meal in the Ocean restaurant. The steak was superb. Breakfast is also excellent, with a large buffet table plus a choice of cooked dishes and toast. From the time we arrived until check out, we were greeted and welcomed by all of the friendly staff we met and received great service throughout our stay. We look forward to going back once the BBQ area is set up for the summer on the decking area.

Came here for the weekend. Due to fog we were only able to come for one night in the end and were unable to get our money back for the 1st night. All the same, we had a lovely stay. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food is of a very high standard. The grounds are well kept. There is a free shuttle into town or the airport although this was seldom available when we were there. The only improvement I would suggest is that wi fi in the annexe is improved as it was very slow. All in all, a great place and only a short walk from a lovely little beach.

This is a superb hotel in a beautiful location with outstanding views, staff & service. Well worth booking the gold rooms as these have balconies with great sea views overlooking the valley. The attention to detail & the little extra touches of fruit, chocolates & sherry made this a memorable stay. The staff were attentive and welcoming. This boutique hotel is warm & comfortable but big on fabulous outdoor spaces. The on-site tea room, heated indoor pool & sauna make it stand out from the rest

My husband and I just stayed in this hotel last night and I was impressed from the moment I walked into my room. It was a silver room, which I think us the most basic of room types. But I needn't have been upgraded because it was perfect. Very luxurious. From the carpets, to the furnishings, to the view out to sea. I enjoyed getting ready in my room for our night in one of the hotel restaurants.

And onto 'The Rock Garden'. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff who suggested we sit at the bar and have a cocktail. Which we did. And that was delicious. We ordered our food and was shown to our table. We both had steak, which the waiter had recommended, and it was absolutely amazing. We had lovely desserts, followed by one more cocktail at the bar to end the evening. The staff were all impeccable. So friendly and efficient.

I only have one criticism of this hotel, and that is as lovely as our room was, every time somebody walked down the corridor upstairs, they sounded like a herd of elephants. It was very noisy. Having said that the area was very peaceful and we weren't disturbed by passing guests being loud and annoying. The bed was comfy, but the pillows were not good and we didn't sleep very well due to the pillows and because I was so hot it was uncomfortable. In hindsight we should gave opened a window. However this wasn't bad enough to deduct a star because my husband and I are bad sleepers anywhere other than our own beds. Next time we'll bring our own pillows!

The next morning we had breakfast in 'Ocean' restaurant and it was one of the best breakfasts I have had. My husband had the cooked breakfast, while I went for the maple syrup and bacon pancakes which were so light and fluffy it was unbelievable! Plus the pastries were brilliant, the choice was good, and they weren't mini pastries like you get in a lot of hotels. There was a good selection of cereals, fruit, some delicious yoghurts and juices. I was very impressed.

A great stay. I can't wait to go back!

Thank you!

The fermain valley hotel was lovely, comfortable, and clean, but it was the views and staff and customer service that really stands out, we loved our 3 night stay.
Private cinema and breakfast room service (at no extra cost) made nice extra touches after a day of walking!

I stayed here for business recently and cannot wait to return for leisure. The location, even on a cold windy day, is beautiful. From the minute you arrive you are looked after. The gentleman on the desk could not have been more welcoming and is a credit to the hotel. My room was absolutely lovely with little touches that make a stay that little bit more special. I am sure it does not cost the hotel much to have sherry, local chocolates, water, and a fruit bowl in the rooms but it makes a big difference to the experience. I arrived late so had room service which was faultless. Very minor point but the pillows were quite hard. That is a personal view and I am sure it would not be a problem for most guests. The restaurant looked lovely and is clearly popular with locals which is always a good sign. Thank you for an exceptionally nice but all too brief stay, I will most certainly be returning to enjoy the hotel and restaurant with my family.

Although we were there for just one night it felt like longer as our stay was enjoyable and very comfortable and the food delicious. Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly hard working staff. The health suite is lovely with pool and sauna so make sure you pack your swimsuit

Great warm welcome with a tour of facilities. Spotless room with balcony to valley and sea. Well architectured gardens down to Fermain Bay. Spending overnight on special package to include dinner and breakfast. Excellent treat for early Jan. Staff very professional and thoughtful. Cocktails superb. Steaks fantastic. Enjoyed the swim in the pool too. Well done Fermain Valley Hotel, we look forward to returning.
