A wonderful family run hotel. Well furnished, efficiently run with friendly, welcoming staff. Food is excellent and the tearoom is very good with wonderful cakes, scones and coffee/tea. Would recommend it.

We stayed at the Fermain Valley Hotel from October 12 - 23rd. From the moment we entered our beautiful Platinum Room (28) we had total peace. Badly required. Day to day operations at this elegant hotel are totally seamless. Brilliant teamwork and helpful staff ensure that your stay runs exactly as it should. We had a beautiful view of Fermain Bay and we were able to sit and gaze out from our room and we found that space of peace and tranquility absolutely priceless. The food is excellent, from the breakfast, throughout the day, if required (and it was not very often), to the evening meals. We stayed during the Islands' Tennerfest, and their menu is excellent, affording a choice of food that was beautifully served, and plentiful. We did not venture into the other eatery available at the Hotel, we had booked ahead and sat at a window seat every evening, and at every single meal we were greeted with a friendly smile and happy service. The pool is fantastic, warm, and changing facilities are spotless as is the rest of the Hotel. We availed ourselves of the private Cinema too, twice actually, as the weather got rather blustery during Storm Brian, and again, nothing was too much trouble and we enjoyed a couple of afternoons there. At very short notice we had to stay on two extra days because of the storm and lack of boats leaving the Island but were kept fully updated by Sabine who was our booking agent, and the Hotel made our room available for the extra time. Such a beautiful old house too, rich in its history, some of it not very happy and Gavin was happy to give us his research into the History of the House which was also used during the Occupation of the Island. Thank you to everybody at the Fermain Valley Hotel.

We had a really lovely time at this beautiful hotel. We had a gold room with balcony and it was impeccable. Sherry, fruit, toiletries and water topped up daily. Plus local newspaper.
The staff were always friendly and helpful. Also caring towards my husband who has Parkinson’s Disease. The food was spot on, the gardens delightful and views down the valley to the sea memorable. The small cinema which we booked for my 70th birthday evening was so special and easy as we did not have to go out of the hotel grounds. Highly recommended.

We book to stay every year as treat and as support for local hotels and have always loved staying here, This time we stayed we felt that it was not on par with our recent visits to the hotel.
We asked for late check out which they were more than happy to accommodate but we just felt the service (apart from the young that served our evening meal who was a credit to the hotel) was generally a bit poor few points to make i.e.

There was ment to be a bottle of prosecco in room and chocolates upon arrival which we had to ask for.
No towels in the pool area had to ask and go back to reception to collect.
Sauna not turned although we do understand on saving energy.
Eggs at breakfast over cooked .
On final morning off departure we wanted a swim to find out that there was a children's party going on in pool area, which being a father myself is not a problem but ment that we could no use the facitlties as a paying guest.
On the whole we love staying here and by no means want to seem like we are moaning about nothing , but going forward we hope this review will help and a tiny bit more attention to detail and information provided to us as guests would have been greatly received.

We stayed st this hotel for a week at the end of September as it was our 50th wedding anniversary, and this is a very comfortable hotel with great staff who couldn't,t do enough for us.Gavin the manager was particularly helpful, thanks Gavin! The food was great in all restaurants our room was perfect a gold room in the main building with a. Balcony we were able to sit out on as the sun came in all day. It overlooked the stunning bay towards jersey perfect view. We intended this to be a relaxing break which it was indeed! We are going home feeling very rested. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place if you want a peaceful break,we will be back.

We booked this hotel as a convenient base for a nearby wedding, not really expecting much given the price was very reasonable. We were therefore very impressed by the quality of facilities and service.

Weather was foul so it would have been even better with sunshine.

Whilst we did not use it, tne hotel shuttle service was an excellent facility

Recently spent a long weekend in this hotel. The room was excellent very clean and plenty of supplies of teas coffee and biscuits. We ate in the Rock Restaurant in the Hotel and found the food excellent and the service could not have been better.
Plenty of choice for breakfast. There is also a café in the hotel providing tea and cakes any time in the day. Will certainly visit again in the future.

Set on the outskirts of St Peter Port, the location is stunning - set down a very steep hill, the hotel provides a courtesy bus service into down. Check in & out was handled very friendly, by a man who was on crutches - he went out of his was to be helpful. The room was airy & clean & the small swimming pool was fine.

Unfortunately there was also some staff with severe attitude problems, as a resident we are entitled to use the bar, after being in town for a meal with some friends we arrived back at the hotel just after 11 & went into the bar for a night cap. A very rude woman, who spoke with a local accent sighed & said she wasn't opening the till & had to be charged to the room - she couldn't make us feel more uncomfortable, we had 1 drink & she was there with her handbag & coat ready to go. Rather amusingly a conference that had been using the hotel of about 50 people descended on the bar, so she didn't get the early finish that she thought she would. As things had now livened up we decided to have another drink, I was drinking the real ale which barrel has gone so they changed it. After they had served it, I left in several minutes but it was excessively cloudy, they changed it but again it was still cloudy. My partner took it back again & was told by Miss Charisma that it was supposed to be served cloudy, my partner who works behind a bar pointed out that the first drink of the same beer wasn't before the barrel went & that real ale barrel should not be disturbed for 48 hours before serving . She then backed down & offered an alternative drink - customer service severely lacking.

Breakfast on the first day was lovely, nice friendly staff & good variety. The second day we both ordered the same thing , my came with fatty smoked bacon similar to what you get in spain, yet my partner got lean unsmoked local bacon - why the difference & no explanation was given.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't stay there again - the attitude of the member of staff spoiled it for me.

Last year I gave a glowing 5 Star review of this hotel and so in January booked again for this September.

Unfortunately this year’s review is not the same!

Last year I booked a ‘Gold’ Room which, although not big, was pleasant and bright, had a seating area with two chairs, a large dressing table and refrigerator. So I asked for the same this year.

On entering the room we were allocated I immediately thought we were given the wrong room. It was gloomy, even smaller, had no chairs or fridge and only a small dressing table. On contacting reception I was told the rooms are defined as ‘Gold’ by having a balcony and not by the size or facilities in the room!

To me, this is completely wrong.

We were given two old chairs, but this meant we could not open the wardrobe doors properly and also given a £35 dining credit. However this in no way made up for spoiling our holiday.

It was made worse when passing other rooms on the corridor when the doors were open and seeing larger rooms with chairs etc., knowing that I had paid the same as those guests! At £190 per night it is not a cheap hotel.

I see previous reviews have made comments on the variances in the ‘Platinum’ rooms also.

Good points – it is still a nice hotel, in a good position, excellent food and all the staff are great.

Would we visit again?? Guernsey – yes. This hotel – No. At least not until they change and have a more detailed grading for the rooms and you know what you are going to get for your money.

We stayed here for 2 night to celebrate our anniversary. Our room was Lovely, with a balcony with views of the valley and the sea. I had mentioned on an email that it was for an anniversary, and we came back from a walk to a card and rose petals on the bed, which was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Overall, we had a Lovely, peaceful and relaxing break and would definitely return.

This is the main restaurant of the Fermain Vally hotel. It was evening. The restaurant is OK, but lacks "soul". As does the adjoining bar. Food is OK. In the daytime/early evening, I suspect the ability to dine outside in their lovely terrace, with medium distance sea views above the lower valley trees, would be better. I find their sister restaurant (The Rock Garden) in the same building to have a better atmosphere. Try that first.

We stayed two night in two different rooms. The first one was very fine but the second one (37) was at the end of the corridor with an unpleasant noise during the whole night.
The service quality on the beatiful terace is unbearable.
Staff was helpful but we didn't like hearing from a driver of the Hotel that Madeira is much better...

We booked this hotel for our Coral Wedding Anniversary. As it was our anniversary, we decided to book one of the platinum rooms. On arrival we were met by a very pleasant lady at reception who outlined the hotels amenities and who then took us to our room. We were somewhat surprised to discover no air conditioning , three tiny green apples plonked on a plate and two chocolate buttons wrapped in selophane with a green bow and the previous occupants welcome letter! Not quite what we expected for platinum service and £230 a night!
On the plus side the staff were all very obliging, even the young girl who agreed to clean our room by 3pm as it had not been cleaned when we returned at 2.30, and the young man who presented my sparkling water and lime in a jam jar!!!
Seriously though, the staff were great and the food was exceptional pity it was under the flight path.

Really good hotel with excellent views from the main building (annex has good accommodation but not the views). Breakfast was excellent; huge variety, good quality pleasant setting. Recommended hotel.

Had a good stay here on business, the desk and stool in my room weren't conducive for working though.

Be careful not to book one of the rooms up the hill at 'The Venue' as they are above a Mexican restaurant and there is some noise with people leaving.

We were on honeymoon. Hotel aware, received a congrats card, but that`s it. Did ask the hotel for a bottle of champagne in room on arrival-no show. I upgraded to a Platinum room prior to arrival. Given room 28, no balcony, basically used to be an attic room converted to a large room, with a skylight, and small opening windows with a view of the front of the hotel, valley, and sea. Shower over bath useful if you were a 3`6"midget. The room on arrival had three green apples and two biscuits as complimentary plus sherry decanter. Large bed/sky TV. Had meal in restaurant first night - partners meal totally wrong-had to go back-so I had eaten mine before hers came. Staff offered us free desert to compensate, however still charged on the bill. Meals weren`t that great. Breakfast is much better, although even then cooked breakfast came out wrongly 1 day. Has a nice small pool - beware of weekend parties with kids, pool is taken over. Bottom line would we stay here again....no. We enjoyed our honeymoon on the island, but we didn`t feel special at this hotel.

Interested to re visit this place after 7 years

Quite a lot has changed; terrace seating at front entrance, Tea Shop and 2 new lively restaurants

I booked two platinum rooms having previously stayed in gold

Arriving on a saturday i was immediately hit by the noise if the place. In the early evening of the first night some drunken ladies decided to turn on some music on their iphone and sing along with the music on the terrace directly opposite the platinum rooms
The next night a new group of younger woman found it amusing to wave at me looking out of the window

A neighbour decided to blast music so loud i thought initially it was an outside PA delivering it

All calmed down a bit after that until the following Saturday when i literally had to wait to the early hours to get any sleep; taxi after taxi , conversation after conversation in the main courtyard just rattled on. A couple in a neighbouring room with a balcony decided to have a loud conversation .
The evening was ended off nicely with the night porter kicking someone out of the premises; presumably from the bar

The platinum rooms themselves were lovely but extremely variable. Some on the upper floor had balconies ; unfortunately ours didn't and was sandwiched between two that did; so we were free to enjoy the neighbours noise.
My mother had a room downstairs which was far grander and double the size but was even closer to the terrace. Non had air con which i think would help with keeping windows closed and noise insulation.

Breakfasts were definitely improved since my earlier visit with better choice and quality
The ocean restaurant was nice but food a bit variable as was the service

Overall seeing that we hired 2 rooms for a week there was no real recognition that we weren't at any time just staying over night . You never felt anyone was actually managing the hotel or coordinating guests and checking on well being
2 staff members shone out the waitress with red hair at breakfast who was there every morning and the french lady at reception. Other that it felt very take it or leave it

We had a fabulous cream tea here and a couple of drink on the patio overlooking the sea.

It is a beautiful hotel and he staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful.

My parents stayed at this hotel 54 years ago when it was La Favorita so it was great to find it and be able to take them back there for a visit.

Lovely hotel in a quiet area. Would stay here if I go back to Guernsey!

A long weekend at this hotel proved to be a mixture. We partook in musical chairs so to speak - we were moved from one room to the other. If you can avoid it, do not go for a room to the back of the hotel, as there is a terasse below. Guests will be keeping you awake out to the small hours,
No food experience - ate out in town! well, the breakfast was filling/good.
Very friendly and effective work force. Reception very good.Grounds very neat and well kept. Very clean in/out.

My husband and I stayed one night as he was playing a cricket match on the island. Very nice room (newly refurbished) and balcony. The terraces and garden are also very pleasant and it's a short walk to the lovely bay and beach cafe below the hotel with easy access to the coastal path. My only criticism is that the bar was I atmospheric and so we went to the Rock Garden grill (the other venue in the hotel ) which had a rather dated 80's wine bar feel and was rather noisy . A tasteful, intimate bar and cook to order breakfast rather than buffet style would raise the standard

Stayed here overnight whilst in Guernsey on business. The room was lovely, facilities good, views breathtaking, food of the highest standard. BUT and its a big but, if you book a room for a leisure stay, get confirmation that you're in the main hotel and not the annex building which is located up the road and which does not have the breathtaking views. Other than that, I think it would be impossible to fault this hotel.

I selected this hotel for it's location in respect of my business trip to Guernsey. of the 5 hotel options my employer sourced, this was the cheapest. I was delighted to receive a free room upgrade to a room on the 2nd floor with a balcony that overlooked the gardens and the splendid sea view.

I took a walk down to the sea front and was delighted with the view. It's a steep walk down and steeper on the way back up so those not so mobile will struggle.

The Rock Garden restaurant was a huge bonus as their Rib Eye steak was to die for.

Great service from every touch point and a great hotel in a stunning setting.

I'll chose to stay here again for sure.

PS: the hotel is on the flight path for the airport but as flights do not operate during the night, this had no impact on my stay.

An excellent way to start a short break, picked up at the airport by the hotels transport. Excellent reception and bags portered to room. A very clean airy room with an excellent small balcony. Bar and restaurants were of a high standard.
