Eastbourne Rangers have yet another tough league fixture this week against Windsor FC at the sports park. On the opening day of the season, a depleted rangers side were well beaten by a strong Windsor outfit (who had a couple of their own missing too) who deservedly took all three points at the end of August.
Windsor then had four more home games, three of which were in the league, where they secured wins against Hawkhurst (4-0) and Ninfield (2-1) as well as a grinding out a well earned point with a depleted side of their own against a strong JC Tackelway outfit. Windsor's next brace of league games saw them marginally edged out by league title favourites Little Chelsea (2-1) followed by their heaviest league defeat to date when Herstmonceux proved to be too strong at Lime Cross, 4-0 the scoreline. Seven days later Windsor conquered visitors Wittersham 3-1 in a much improved performance. Their league stats read: P7 W4 D1 L2. F14 A9 Pts13. They currently sit fourth in the division and boast the meanest defence in division 2.
Windsor have progressed well in the Sussex FA Junior Cup with a trio of wins against Roffey III (3-1 AET), Racing Palmeira (4-2 AET) and last weeks 10-1 thumping of Wivelsfield Wanderers. A penalty shoot out saw Windsor exit the Eastbourne Junior Cup at the hands of Willingdon II while Hollington II were far too strong for this weeks opponents when they ran out 5-0 winners in the Wisden Sports Challenge Cup.
Yet again, rangers will be hoping to recapture some of their cup form in a league fixture; form that escaped them last week in a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Wittersham. Three points are a must for both teams but for very different reasons with Windsor looking to push for promotion while rangers are looking over their shoulders at the few teams below them.
2pm kick off at the sports park, see you all there.
Come on rangers!!! :-)
