Training in Eastbourne

Our training arm (Training Now!) has exceeded its target working in partnership with Job Centre Plus helping people on ESA. We have been providing two hour workshops on many varied subjects such as jewellery making, gardening, art, card/gift box making, managing mental health, cooking, and confidence building to name but a few.

These courses are not mandatory and are mainly for fun and to give people the confidence to get out of the house and back into the world again which has often, in the past, been extremely difficult for them to achieve. Our new Training Co-ordinator, Sophie Stretton, and her team have smashed their own target and achieved 10 participants in 6 months progressing from these workshops into accredited education or employment.

These are some of the comments we have received from people on these workshops.

“I was stuck in my flat, all of the time, I didn't know what to expect when I first came to Furniture Now! but when I got here everyone was so kind and I have never met a bad person here.
I wanted to meet more people instead of shying away from the world. Every course I have been on I have enjoyed”

“I have made more friends at Furniture now in 6 months than I have in 6 years”

“Furniture Now! is a home from home”

We are currently providing free courses for people who are 19+ and unemployed. NCFE level 1 in  Maths and English and Level 2 Creative Crafts in Wood and also a Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness which is proving extremely popular.

We are signing people up for a new course starting in September in Mental Health First Aid . This is to be run by a very experienced tutor and is open to everyone at a very reasonable cost. 1 in 4 people will suffer from a mental health problem at some time in their lives. Early intervention can help slow down or stop these problems from developing or lead to faster recovery. An MHFA course will teach you to recognise the early signs of a mental health problem and give you the confidence and knowledge to help. Please contact Lynette Baldwin 01323 887199/07758114727 for more information of this course.

We are very proud of the work that we do at ‘The Now Charity Group’ helping people to overcome difficulties. The furniture that we sell in our stores, in Lewes, Hailsham and Eastbourne, helps to fund some of this training and enables us to help many people for free across East Sussex.
