Taste the difference at the Durrant Eatery!

On Friday the 21st of June I was delighted to attend the taste test of the new menu available at the Durrant Eatery at the Cumberland Hotel. Now for anyone that knows me I am not what you would consider a professional reviewer so pardon me if I don’t have the same range of description of the meal. I do however consider myself a semi-professional eater in terms of I love food and being able to share my dining experience is a pleasure.

Firstly the view from the Durrant Eatery is amazing. You get a panoramic view of the seafront which includes the Eastbourne Bandstand. A perfect setting for a romantic meal for two, be sure to keep the Cumberland Hotel in mind for your next Valentines Day date night.

When I was reviewing the menu all the starters looked delicious but I have a real weakness for scallops. So I opted for the pan-fried whole scallops with minted pea puree, bacon crumbs & a morecella sausage croquette. Mouthwatering, delicious and cooked to perfection!

When the main was being served I could not believe my eyes! Pan roasted beef tenderloin in a Madeira wine sauce, served with a side of truffle mac`n`cheese. It looked scrumptious and was such a good cut of meat I wish I had opted for Medium Rare. It was cooked perfectly to my order of medium so certainly no complaints there. The mac`n`cheese was the tastiest I have had in a long time and it was certainly the perfect side to accompany the beef tenderloin.

It was at this point we got a short breather to continue our conversations and it was a welcome break before dessert as the starter and main course was doing a good job of leaving me feeling full.

For anyone that loves Crème brulee, you might be used to the watery sludge that is often served up… not at the Durrant! The Limoncello Crème Brulee was set to perfection! The fruit topping was perfectly ripe and full flavoured and each and every mouthful was tantalising and delightful!

I can recommend you try them out for yourself. The food, view and attentive staff made the evening extremely enjoyable. You can contact the Cumberland Hotel via thebestof Eastbourne to reserve your table.
