The Spirit of Eastbourne Award continues to shine a spotlight on local individuals who are quietly making a positive difference within the community, and in May 2026, thebestof Eastbourne was proud to present the award to Shaun Crowhurst from Radio DGH.

Having worked closely with Shaun over the past year, it became clear just how passionate he is about helping local people, charities, businesses and organisations share their stories in their own voice through Radio DGH.

Audio and conversation bring a different level of personality and connection, and Shaun has a real talent for helping guests feel comfortable, engaged and heard during interviews. Rather than simply sitting back and letting conversations drift, he actively helps guide discussions naturally while keeping the focus on the people and stories being shared.

Alongside supporting countless local organisations through Radio DGH, Shaun has also been a tremendous supporter of thebestof Eastbourne, regularly helping promote local events, community activity and positive local news across Eastbourne.

Although we have a huge amount of respect for the entire Radio DGH team, the Spirit of Eastbourne Award is about recognising individuals whose personal contribution is making a visible positive impact within the community. Based on our own experiences working with Shaun, we felt he was thoroughly deserving of recognition for the encouragement, positivity and support he consistently brings to Eastbourne.

The presentation itself came as a complete surprise during a live Radio DGH appearance, making the moment even more special. If you would like to hear the moment for yourself, you can listen again to the interview via the Radio DGH Listen Again service.

Shaun Crowhurst said:

“I would like to thank David at thebestof Eastbourne for this award. To be recognised for something which I class as a hobby has come as a true surprise.

Radio DGH is a fantastic platform for people from the area to share their stories and to be able to give people this opportunity is a real pleasure. I wouldn’t be able to do this though without the fantastic team at Radio DGH who are all amazing.”

The Spirit of Eastbourne Award was created to recognise local people who are helping make Eastbourne a better place through kindness, encouragement, community support and positive action. There are no formal categories, sponsorships or entry fees. The aim is simply to help local people feel seen and appreciated for the difference they make within the community every day.

I work with local businesses who are already great at what they do and make their reputation visible so customers choose them with confidence.
