‘Slow the Flow’ Water Butt Project in Eastbourne

Our Rainwater are working in collaboration with the Blue Heart Project as part of a ‘slow the flow’ initiative in the Eastbourne area. Residents on certain roads are eligible for a free water butt that gradually releases rainwater overtime. By catching and controlling the flow of rainwater we can help to support communities in harnessing their rainwater for local use.

An initial 100 leaky water butts have been secured from Southern Water by local MP Caroline Ansell. They will capture rainwater from rooftops slowing the flow into our drainage systems. Rainwater is a powerful resource that can help us in becoming more drought resilient and is fantastic for use in our outdoor spaces!

With our climate changing and the expected frequency of extreme weather events likely to increase, rainwater capture may help to promote a healthier environment. It is likely we will experience more heatwaves, droughts, and flooding. By capturing rainwater on a large scale, we may help to reduce flood risk, sewer spills and enhance drought resilience.

You can find out if you are eligible for a free rainwater butt today by visiting our website  https://ourrainwater.com/sign-up. We are focused on empowering communities to use their rainwater through such projects and support environmental improvements in local water bodies.
