Thought I would just put a few words together as to why Robert Purdie and I are skydiving!
At the RSE Group we take our CSR seriously and we like to do something for the good of the community every year. Last year some of the RSE team braved doing an abseil for the Sara Lee Trust – but with my monstrous fear of heights I chickened out of doing it – it’s just something I could not physically do through my mental fear of heights. I admit it – I felt a pang of guilt – especially as whilst the team were falling down buildings attached to a rope, I was sunning myself on a beach in the Caribbean drinking Pina Coladas!
So earlier this year when Mandy announced we would be doing something to raise money for the Happy Paws Puppy Rescue in Eastbourne, I knew whatever it was I would be up for it. Mandy and Rob had already rescued some wonderful dogs through Happy Paws and I too was on the lookout for rescuing one myself in the future. Happy Paws do wonderful work rescuing and re-homing dogs (not just puppies) who would either face being put to sleep or a lifetime of cruelty. So when Mandy said how about a Tandem Skydive I said YES! I shocked myself as well as the others but knew I had to face my fears this time………. so Robert (our CEO) and I booked up to “fly” on 9th May. After going through the training and getting prepared to jump later that day, facing my nerves, 6 hours later it became apparent that the high winds sadly were not going to improve and all skydives were cancelled! I was SO disappointed (OK and a BIG bit relieved) – all that build up for it not to happen….
We’ve been trying to re-book our skydive date when both Rob and I were free and the weather conditions good….. and now we are booked in for Tuesday 6th October. So I ask this one thing – can everyone please cross their fingers for perfect Tandem Skydiving weather over Headcorn in Kent on 6th October! I don’t know how much more my nerves can take ;-)
