Get prepared this a weekend of Guy Fawkes festivities of fireworks, sparklers and bonfires. It's being recommended with the Lewes Bonfire that everyone should stay local so we have provided some events that are planned for this weekend. And for anyone who's staying home and letting off their own fireworks at home, we've got some tips to share to keep everyone safe.

Tectonic's Top Tips for keeping safe with Fireworks

  • Ensure that is you're hosting a firework party, make sure you plan it to keep it safe
  • Read and follow the firework instructions
  • Keep a bucket of water close by
  • Keep naked flames, including cigarettes, away from fireworks
  • Direct any rocket fireworks well away from spectators
  • Light the firework at arm's length with a taper and stand well back
  • Make sure that the fire is out and surroundings are made safe before leaving.
  • Never return to a firework once it has been lit

Sparklers Safety

  • It is recommended that sparklers are not given to under-5s
  • Make sure everyone handling sparklers wears gloves
  • Hold sparklers at arm’s length while being lit
  • Don’t wave sparklers about close to other people
  • Never hold a baby in your arms while you are holding a sparkler
  • When the sparkler has finished put it in a bucket of cold water.
