Eastbourne Rangers face a tough midweek league game this week against Little Chelsea, which happens to be a warm up for the Eastbourne Junior Cup final scheduled to take place at the end of this month. The two side have already met twice this season with Little Chelsea having the edge in both games, albeit a harsh penalty decision in each game literally knocking the stuffing out of rangers on both occasions.
The sides last met in the league cup at the end of January which saw the red and blacks hold the division 2 favourites for 118 minutes, until a harsh penalty decision was given against skipper Dave Bennett-Tomlin, after it appeared Little Chelsea had settled for a penalty shoot out.
Since that game, Little Chelsea have secured 5 wins in the league (keeping four clean sheets in the process) as well as a battling away draw to local rivals, Windsor FC. Little Chelsea have also gone on to secure safe passage to the league cup final after a solid 2-0 win at Hollington United II as well as beating Willingdon II (3-1) and Polegate II (2-0) in the Eastbourne Junior cup.
Their league record is very impressive: P14 W12 D1 L1 F53 A19 Pts37 and this sees them lying in second spot and one point behind Wadhurst with two games in hand. Little Chelsea also boast the divisions top scorer with Joe Morris having found the back of the net 15 times this season with Lucan Mann (7) ans Eamon Brennan (5) supplying suitable back up.
This will undoubtedly be a tough game for rangers bearing in mind Little Chelsea have only dropped 4 points in the league this year, but the red and blacks will take hope from the last meeting when the game was very tight and could have swung either way.
