Eastbourne Rangers face a tricky bank holiday league fixture on Monday against rivals Herstmonceux. The two sides met during gameweek two of the season which saw rangers lead for 80 minutes before 'ceux hit three late goals to snatch victory away from the triple champions, albeit in controversial circumstances.
Rangers come into the game off the back of an encouraging performance against Little Chelsea, where for the third time this season, the league favourites were pushed to the very limit by the red and blacks.
Ceux currently lie four points and three places above rangers meaning a win for ceux will almost certainly ensure they will be playing division two football next season. Rangers will be hoping to notch up a win to get within a point of ceux, and with ceuxs run in looking a tad trickier on paper, rangers will be hoping to finish above this weeks hosts.
The last six league games has seen ceux notch up wins against Hawkhurst and Crowhurst, draws against Ninfield and Wittersham, and defeats against Wadhurst and Windsor which is quite a mixed bag. Their most recent game saw ceux push premier league outfit Rock A Nore to the very limit in the cup, with the rocks winning narrowly 6-5 on penalties.
Herstmonceux's league record reads P17 W4 D5 L8 F36 A39 Pts19 with James Jarvis their top scorer in the league with 6 goals to his name. This is undoubtedly a big game for both clubs for many reasons, with league safety the primary objective. But with ceuxs run-in consisting of table toppers Little Chelsea and JC Tackelway, surely the onus will be on the home side to secure league safety on home soil.
Big game at the business end of the season.
3pm Kick off at Lime Cross.
