Furniture Now! held a high profile Stakeholders Open Morning on Friday 6th February with over 40 guests including the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex - Peter Field, the Mayor of Eastbourne - Councillor Janet Coles, andthe Prospective Member of Parliament - Caroline Ansell.
The morning consisted of an impassioned speech from Chief Executive, Petrina Mayson; a tour of the training centre, services, ICT suite, shabby chic area and office furniture division; giving all our stakeholders a rare chance to really engage with the charity’s hard working volunteers, apprentices and staff. It was also a chance for Furniture Now! to thank all of the people, partners and organisations that support them through all the changes and evolution that comes with running a growing social enterprise with over 35,000 customers each year.
The Lord Lieutenant praised the work of the charity and congratulated them on their 21 year existence in East Sussex supporting the community in such a positive way giving real practical help to those who need it most..
Prospective Member of Parliament, Caroline Ansell said “"Spending time at Furniture Now! was absolutely inspiring. Behind those business unit doors there is a hive of activity and a small army of good people doing great work, changing lives. Learning new skills, recovering lost confidence, being dressed for success - it's all happening here!
One of the guys I spoke to likened his experience there as 'coming out of the darkness'; 'new hope' and 'purpose' were recurrent themes. Everyone spoke so warmly of the team and the family atmosphere at Furniture Now! and that couldn't have been more real to me as I met volunteers.
A huge thank you to Trina Mayson CEO and everyone at Furniture Now! for such a warm welcome on the occasion of their anniversary. I felt very privileged to part of it."”
Petrina Mayson, CEO says “The affluent face of the South East is sadly just a façade with our services such as literacy and numeracy training, emergency social fund provision and workshops for those claiming sickness benefits facing unprecedented demand. We have noticed a large increase in working people needing our services in the last year as they struggle to make ends meet. To be able to thank the people who actively support us and celebrate this special day with them is wonderful.”
The morning was a tribute to the hard work put in by all, and an excellent way to celebrate the 1st birthday of the Training Centre and Office Furniture Store as well as the 21st year for the charity.
