Eastbourne Bonfire Society thank Eastbourne supporters

Saturday 6th October saw Eastbourne Bonfire Society take to the streets and put on a grand procession and our most spectacular fireworks display yet. A year in planning and fundraising, this free event grows as a spectacle year on year.

This year 12 Bonfire Societies were in attendance, 2 Morris sides, 3 drumming sides and our very own Kingfisher Scout Band. To all these revellers, we are most grateful. Yet, without the support of local businesses and services this event could not take place. With this in mind, Eastbourne Bonfire Society would to thank: East Sussex Police, SEACam, St John’s Ambulance, East Sussex Fire Service and Eastbourne Borough Council. We would particularly like to thank Mark Fallon, Andy Houlter and Angelo Errigo for their contributions to the planning and co-ordination on the night. Without donations of materials and equipment, we would be over-stretched as a society.

With this in mind, we would like to thank: ASDA, Travis Perkins, Martello Plant Hire, PJ Skips, Milhams, Mr J. Russell of Tutt’s Barn Farm and Mrs D. Love at the Drive in Old Town. As the cost of Bonfire rises year on year, without the support of local business the event will struggle to survive. It is our hope that we can become a major feature of the town’s tourist calendar and a vibrant part of the Eastbourne Brand.

As such, we would ask those businesses along our route to consider supporting us as the Afton, the Grand and the Langham Hotels currently do. We appreciate the dedication of the marshals, who give their time so freely. Yet, every year, we struggle to find marshals. It is a problem we need to solve. So, early though this may sound, we are asking the good folk of Eastbourne to support us. If you are interested in marshalling at next year’s event on 5th October or joining this growing society, please contact Nick at sec@eastbournebonfire.co.uk Enjoy the rest of the season EBS
