Eastbourne Rangers ESFL team face Pebsham Sibex this week on the 3G at the Eastbourne Sports Park in a 2pm kick off. With the forecast looking terrible at the start of the week, the management team reacted swiftly to ensure that rangers would have every chance to extend their lead at the top of the division two table, which currently stands at five points, by booking the 3G.
This weeks opponents are second from bottom of the division but have had a couple of stand out results this season against Hollington II and Wittersham which means rangers should approach this game with caution.
Sibex started the 2014/15 campaign well with an opening day 3-2 victory against basement side Northiam 75. A week later they failed to raise a side to face rangers title rivals Old Hastonians while a 3-1 extra time defeat to division 1 Sidley Untied followed in the Wisden Sports Challenge Cup. A return to league action then saw Sibex culled 6-3 away at The JC Tackelway. Three straight wins saw Sibex beat West Hill United 5-2 in the Robertsbridge Junior Cup followed by their most impressive results of the season defeating Division one side Hollington United II in the Hastings Junior Cup (5-2) and Wittersham 6-2 in the league.
The last three games for Sibex, however, is a completely different story which has seen them suffer three consecutive defeats, the first at Old Hastonians (7-1) in the league. A further league defeat at fellow league strugglers Catsfield (4-2) was more recently followed up by Sibex being on the wrong end of an eleven goal thriller against Northiam 75 in the Robertsbridge Junior Cup which sent them crashing out.
Their league form reads: P6 W2 D0 L6 F15 A21 and the man rangers will have to be wary of is top scorer Chris Jones who has six league goals to his name this season.
Conditions tomorrow could well be blustery but the superb 3G playing surface will hopefully serve rangers fluent football well yet again and a win will see rangers extend their lead at the top division as nearest rivals Old Hastonians are on cup duty.
