We booked The West Rocks Hotel for a family of four which included an almost-five year old and a three month old baby. Their sea-view room was spacious and bright with a large bathroom. The beds were comfortable and they all slept well, with even the baby sleeping through the night.
We had visited the resturant before booking the room and found it to be good value with pleasant staff and excellent food. The surroundings in the bar and resturant are clean and fresh. We have returned for coffee and enjoyed the experience.
Prior to our visitors arriving we called into the hotel to,pay the bill and leave a bag of gifts to be placed in the room for their arrival. We are pleased to report the gifts were found by the visitors when they arrived.
On returning from our evening meal in town, the little girl bumped her head on some railings along the sea front and when we asked at The West Rocks for some ice to prevent swelling we were supplied with a bag of crushed ice wrapped in a perfect white cloth - the best ice pack I have seen in a very long time. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
The owners of the hotel are aware of the decoration which still needs to be completed on the higher floors of the building but it is a big job which will take time and does not detract from the pleasantness of the hotel.

A hotel with potential - needs some sprucing but for the purposes of somewhere to sleep for a night it's perfectly fine. Service was very good, with pleasant, helpful staff. Breakfast was delicious. Excellent location for beach and town centre.

The staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you.The hotel is very clean and modern in decor.The view from the sea view rooms have excellent views of the beach and sea front.The beds in the room are very comfortable, and the hotel is quite so you get a good nights sleep.Breakfast is self service and a good range.will stop at this hotel again

Have just spent one night at the west Rock hotel in Eastbourne with my partner,daughter and her friend. We were looking for a hotel near the sea with bed and breakfast close to the centre of the town. Booking. Com lead us to the hotel and after reading reviews on trip advisor,we decided to give it a try. We booked through the hotel itself. The staff were very kind and helpful. The rooms were more than adequate with a TV with free view,lovely hot shower,tea and coffee and a kettle also provided. ( just what we were looking for) the room was spotlessly clean. Room 8 had a fabulous view. The buffet breakfast included in the price was excellent with helpful and friendly staff on hand. Can only say we will stay again. Jason and Donna.

The staff at the West Rocks could not have been more friendly, helpful & respectful through out our visit.
The hotel is under going some much needed updating, & the areas already done show just what this hotel will become,.....one of the best in town.
The Breakfast is very nice, with a very relaxed atmosphere.

We only had a short break in Eastbourne but were very fortunate to have stayed at the West Rocks. They are currently in the process of renovating the whole hotel and apart from a few bathrooms and the corridors I think they are pretty much there. There are notices apologising for the antique wallpaper as they wait to have this refurbished. However we think these notices should be more prominent and in frames explaining the history of this particular wallpaper as it dates back some 40 years and originates from Selfridges. It's a great bit of history that I'm sure they are proud of. The bar area is an excellent place to relax with a high quality finish and very comfortable as is the restaurant. There is a separate spacious dining area for breakfast and the breakfast is superb. Nothing was too much of a problem. The bedroom was very modern and the beds very comfortable. I think a lot of hotels would like to be able to recognise the same qualities in their staff as the qualities found in the staff at west Rocks. Everyone was just so very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay again and eat in the superb restaurant.

My partner and I stayed here for a one night stay. It offered great value for money. The place was spotlessly clean. The staff were attentive. The evening meal was delicious. The only slight downside was that the shower temperature was a little cool for my liking. Would highly recommend. I would say that the new owners are going to a lot of effort to get things right.

Rooms were nicely decorated and catered our needs, beds were made every day and had fresh towels daily in all the room was comfortable.
Breakfasts were on a self serve basis, continental and full English was available, all of the food was freshly prepared and constantly restocked, at least 2 members of staff were available if we needed anything.
The bar was open from anytime we wanted it open until closing time which was 12, there was a problem with one of the taps but we were compensated straight away by getting a deal on the bottle beers instead which was also reasonable priced.
Parking outside was on a pay and display for £1 a day residence parking which was obtained from the reception desk, as there were 10 of us there was plenty of parking spaces available.
Overall the weekend experience staying in the hotel was greatly enjoyed and will be definitely returning back in the spring of 2015.

My friend Barry Drake and I had a wonderful long weekend in September staying here. It was equally as lovely as when we stayed here in May. The owner Chris and the manager Ian and all the staff are so helpful and friendly. They couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable. The rooms are of a high standard and facilities are excellent. In fact we are going to stay there again in May 2015 and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Eastbourne - Hazel & Barry.

An absolute gem. Seafront position, friendly staff, immaculately clean, fine dinner and good value. We stayed midweek in order to visit one of the nearby theatres and took advantage of the extremely reasonable pre-theatre dinner. We upgraded to a seafront room, which is well worth the extra.

Lovely meal with a friend at this stylish hotel. Great views of the seafront and fireworks display. Fabulous food. Seared scallops, Sussex smokie, brill with chive and lemon sauce and cod bouillabaisse were all delicious. Service was good and drinks in the bar were very pleasant.
No need to be resident, just walk in! Also, proper cocktails available and lovely house wine.

What an amazing time we had, the location is great and the hotel is charming. The staff are so lovely and helpful, you are in a welcoming and warm atmosphere.
The restaurant is a true gem offering delicious cuisine at very cheap prices. Truly recommended, we tried the scallops ( delicious ), the pork belly ( juicy, tender, massive portion), the brill (ate it all skin and flesh), the steak ( perfectly cooked and served with a velvety bearnaise and crispy light chips), the chicken (moist and tender) and for dessert a cheesecake with white chocolate delicately infused with lemon( yum yum yum).
Can't wait to go back there again.

room clean and comfortable with a lovely view of the sea from my window, had 2 great breakfasts we would have ate in the restaurant first night but we came to late 23.30pm and the night porter made us a nice sandwich each & other guests were saying to us in the bar that the food is great and our wedding food was great, the staff are fantastic we enjoyed our stay and as we have friends in the area so we will be coming back

Like previous reviewers I found this hotel friendly, very well located, clean and comfortable. Also, like another recent reviewer I stayed in room 16 as a single. The room is indeed small, but not unlike many other singles I've stayed in throughout Europe. The shower is very indeed small. If you are concerned about the size I would recommend you request a different room. I wasn't bothered myself and enjoyed my stay.
I also ate at the restaurant which was very good. Some others seem to have had a bad experience but speaking for myself I would eat their again without concern,

Just enjoyed a great September saturday night at this smart seafront hotel. Food and service were excellent, seafront room on the first floor was really nicely presented, clean and bright. New owners seem to be making a real good go of revitalising it. Don't think you'll be disappointed if you give it a try, we weren't.

Stayed in room 16, a single sea view room, for 4 nights in September 2014. Everything good you have read about the staff( be it Ian, Nick, Barry, Maddie et al) is correct - extremely attentive. Customer service like this is very unusual these days and the best thing it comes naturally - there was nothing forced about it. Excellent location. Small bar with an adequate range of tipples. Restaurant food was very good - ate there on 3 nights. If you want to have something special that is not on the menu (I asked for fillet steak and they got it in for the following night) give them 24 hours notice and they will try their best to accommodate you.
The big drawback for me was the room. As I said, it was a single - long and narrow; no more than 6-7 feet across, so if you get a bit claustrophobic it is not the room for you. The bed was comfortable, The shower cubicle was the smallest I have ever used and as I am a big guy I just about fitted in it but kept knocking into the hand grab or soap dish or the shower control if I tried to move around. A power shower it is not and a pretty forgettable experience. I overheard many other guests discuss their rooms, and I peeped into one or two when they were being cleaned, and the double rooms are of a good size (don't know about the showers though).
The room is an important part of a hotel stay and maybe they should consider retiring this room as part of the ongoing refurbishment.
Despite the disappointment of the room, the overall experience was very good, hence the 4 stars.

We booked a Superior Double Sea View (Room 17) on DBB terms - The room was a very good size room with a super view of the bay - Some great moonlight scenes in the evening. The Bathroom was not large but was clean and had a modern over bath shower which worked well. The room was newly decorated, in a modern style and was very pleasant.
There are warnings that the corridors need an upgrade and yes they are dated, but how long do you plan to hang around the hotel corridors?
If staying at the hotel, I recommend that you stay in for the evening meals, the food was of a very high standard and we ate in every night. My wife's face when she sampled the Triple Chocolate Stack desert was a picture, as she declared it the best sweet she had ever sampled. The mains and starters were great as well - Compliments to the chef!
All the staff are very friendly and helpful - All in all a great hotel to stay in and we look forward to returning in the future.

Booked as a table of 7 in the restaurant and we were not dissapointed, I had read the reviews on here and decided to give it a go, all I can really say is that we had a fantastic time from the time we entered the hotel to the moment we left, the staff were very friendly, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was great, will definatly be back here soon

Have just returned from a weekend in Eastbourne - our first visit - with a friend. West Rocks is a brilliant place to stay - the staff, in particular, were, without exception, really friendly and helpful.
Rooms were fine - we know that the place is undergoing a refurb this year. it was perfect for us - in just the right position. Food was excellent in the restaurant, and the breakfasts were hearty! Would ceetainly stay there again.

Stayed there Saturday night. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was very clean. Had a fantastic sea view from our window so make sure you pick the second or 3rd floor to benefit from the view.
We ate in the restaurant and was very surprised with the quality of the good. It was packed so we were lucky we have booked.
Don't miss out on staying there. Will definitely be going back there again.

Nice hotel in a great location, staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. Room was comfortable a little hot first thing in the morning, but only due to the sunshine !
We had a meal in the restaurant, really nice and excellent value, defiantly go back just for the food.

We had an excellent 2 night stay (was orignally one but extended it) at this friendly hotel. We had a great sized room with a fabulous sea view. The staff were extremely accommodating and had good knowledge of the local attractions. I would highly recommed eating in the hotel dining room even if you aren't staying at the hotel, the food is fantastic! There are refurbishments going on and in our room the bathroom did need to have a "makeover" to bring it up to the standard of the rest of the room, but this did not spoil a very enjoyable and relaxing stay.
