Really enjoyed our recent three night stay at West Rocks. Stayed in room 29 which was spacious and had a sea view. Staff are very good and nothing is too much trouble for the super friendly and helpful manager, Ian. This is a work in progress but the ongoing work didn't impinge on our enjoyment. The location is excellent being an easy walk to theatres, shops and places to eat and of course lots of chances to stroll or just sit and let the world go by, across the road. Excellent value too with the breakfasts being of very good quality. Well done to all at West Rocks!

Stayed in West Rocks Hotels for 3 nights in July. Great position right on the sea front. Room good, nice size, good bed but bathroom a little small. In the process of being refurbished so the hallways look tired and in need of upgrade, will probably be nice when it's finished as it a lovely old building. Owners very friendly and helpful. Nice bar area, breakfast fine.
Have to ask for a parking permit to park outside the hotel which you have to pay £1 for which is fine. Close to being very nice but some way to go to finish the refurb when we were there. A personal negative no plug points near a mirror for hair dryers in our room!

My husband & I went to eastbourne to the west rock hotel for a nice relaxing break, I was very happy with the hotel, staff couldn't do enough & the food was of high standard. It was one of the cleanest hotels I have been to of late. I looked forward to breakfast each morning, the coffee was great & we were served beautiful pancakes, the choice was endless. It's one place we will be back to. Very reasonable rates.

One night stay only and was very comfortable. Rooms have been updated and was large with comfortable bed and great view of the sea. Right on sea front and staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with reasonable choice but cutlery was a bit dirty which isnt a great start to the day. Hallways havent been updated yet and look a bit tired. Otherwise is excellent value at £85 and would stay again. If it wasnt for the cutlery being dirty would have given 4 stars.

We only stayed here 1 night whilst attending a friends wedding. They were very accomodating with an early check in so we could get changed and the room was very comfortable and well presented we stayed in room 1 which had a side sea view at the side. The hotel is being refurbed but it didn't spoil our stay the breakfast was of a high standard and was help yourself so no limits! The only thing that I would comment on would be the bathroom the shower was excellent and I think new but it was over a bath with a shower curtain around which I personally do not like. The staff were friendly and very welcoming. They have family room too so would definitely return with the family.

We have stayed in a few hotels in Eastbourne over the years and this is the best by far, the room was fab and the breakfast is to die for, massive fry up or some other stuff for you veggies. The staff are very freindly and helpfull. It is the perfect place to stay

My husband and I spent two comfortable nights at the White Rocks Hotel. On the whole we enjoyed the experience, but think it is important for customers to know that the hotel is currently undergoing gradual refurbishment, and therefore there may be some disappointing aspects to your stay, depending on which room you find yourself in.
Our room (no 11, superior apparently) was only half refurbished! All was fine in the bedroom itself, apart from a damp problem in the chimney, which was unsightly but Ok. However the bathroom sported pink tiles, circa 1970, was very old fashioned, and on the three occasions we used the shower the water was only adequately hot once.
The corridors etc, upstairs could also do with some attention.
In fairness, the owners make no secret of the fact that the refurbishment is happening, although perhaps we should have been told in advance?

The good points:- Room 11 was a good size and had a sea view as promised, but because it was at the side of the building was off the main promenade and thus very quiet. The beds was comfortable and linen and towels good quality. Everything was immaculately clean, although the room was not made up until the afternoon (an increasingly common gripe).
The public rooms downstairs have been done up with great taste and flair. The bar is pleasant and drinks not overpriced. The breakfast room is light and airy despite being below ground level and the quality of breakfast was good,
Service was first rate and very friendly.
We would certainly return to West Rocks, and think this will be an outstanding five stars once the refurb is complete.

Friendly and caring staff. Tastefully furnished room with super comfortable bed. Very very enjoyable stay. Meals great. Good location for a short stroll to restaurants and theatres. Refurbishment didn't impact on our comfort.

This is clearly a hotel that has recently been taken over after years of having little TLC the new owners have made a great start and the main public areas reflect that this is going to be furnished to a very good standard
The breakfast is great with the meats sourced locally and it shows
The thing that stood out most is the attitude of the management and staff they are clearly focused on the customer and have a 'can and will do ' attitude
We will definitely return and would highly recommend

We have just returned from 6 nights at the West Rocks Hotel. The location is perfect. Lots of sea views and the beach literally just across the road. Parking can be difficult in English resorts but not here. We paid £1 for the whole week. Each day my husband went to reception where they gave us a new day ticket to cover our parking space. The beds were gorgeous don't think I have ever had such a comfortable bed in a hotel. Food was great and extremely well priced for the excellent quality.

The hotel is about to refurbish the hallways but the majority of the hotel had been refurbished recently and was very tastefully done, smart but informal.

Last but not least the service was so very good. I believe the service was the best we have had for a very long time. Staff were attentive but unassuming. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt we had been really looked after. As you can tell we would recommend this hotel. Thank you for such a lovely stay.

We stayed here for the Sunday night being the last day of Airbourne. We had a sea view which is fantastic. I cant understand why this hotel only has a two star rating, it deserves more. The staff, and particularly the Manager Ian cant do enough to help and are very friendly. The renovations they've done so far are great and we will definitely be staying here next year for Airbourne.

Stayed here last week with two elderly companions; we all had single sea front rooms with great views. All the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful and made our stay memorable. Breakfast was delicious (my gluten-free needs were catered for) and we also enjoyed dinner on a couple of nights though the dining room was very quiet and not well supported. We would have eaten in more frequently but the menu did not change for several days. Our rooms and the public areas were all modern and bright and the staff were unnecessarily apologetic about the areas that were not yet re-furbished as everywhere was clean and tidy. There is a quaint lift which I feel would be a priority to replace as my oldies could not manage to use it on their own. Will definitely be staying again.

Never stayed at this hotel before but would definately stay again. Room had a seaview with outstanding view of 'Airborne'. Bathroom alittle tired but extremely clean and were made aware that the whole hotel is undertaking a refurb so the bathroom will be sorted. Food for both lunch and dinner was lovely. All the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Definately a jewel in the Eastbourne crown.

We stayed in Room 10 which was a triple, we had a side view of the sea. It was tastefully decorated in red, white and blue, bathroom still to be updated! Bed very comfy and quiet location, the sash window was open all night without disturbance. Would recommend that if this is being advertised as a triple, then 3 of everything is a must, i.e. toiletries, coffee cups, it also would have been good to have glasses rather than plastic cups! Breakfast was superb, lots of choice. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially on the front desk, would stay here again.

Really lovely staff who couldn't do enough for you. Great room for the price and restaurant and lounge areas looked lovely. For a hotel right on the sea front with this standard of rooms and service it deserves to be more than a two star. Normally I feel the other way round when I stay in hotels. They still have to refurb the bathrooms and hallways but they were not too bad. I would stay again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

We had a great weekend here. The staff were very helpful & especially considerate towards my 90 year old Dad. We ate in the restaurant in the evening & on the second night, chef kindly cooked a simple meal for my Dad & served him a suitably small portion which he appreciated, at a very small cost. I reckon the chips were second to none! There's also a ramp at the side of the hotel which is suitable for wheelchairs & avoids some steep steps at the main hotel entrance - although there are grab rails on each section of the steps.

We wanted to go to Brighton as we'd been forty years ago! Parking situation there put us off ~ it's either so expensive or virtually non-existent. So we decided on Eastbourne as we'd never been and we chose West Rocks after reading reviews. There were loads of good reviews for many places, so we were really spoilt for choice. One of the deciding factors was sea~view rooms and I booked over the phone direct. Parking permits for £1 per day are available from the hotel and when we arrived we parked on the seafront and didn't move motor till check out 5 days later.

The hotel still has a way to go to complete the refurbishment, but the public rooms are tastefully remodelled. Our large room was on the 1st floor with a large bay window and high ceiling. The bathroom was compact with large tiled shelf for toiletries etc. We had 2 tub chairs, small wardrobe, a chest of drawers and large desk with chair in the bay window. TV and kettle supplied and the king size bed was extremely comfortable with decent fabrics.

Breakfast was buffet style, with cereals, fruit juices, yogurts and some fresh fruit. Toaster available for white or brown sliced bread with a selection of jams or honey. Tea and coffee was served to you with refills offered. We had dinner on the first night and the food was fine. Watched both World Cup semi-finals in the bar, having much fun with the Brazilian barman and the German receptionist. After that the Holland v Uruguay was an anti-climax!

Unfortunately, that week Eastbourne and the surrounding towns, were the only places in the UK that had rain! There are loads of cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops in Eastbourne and a nice flat prom for walking. Luckily we also saw the pier before it caught fire. To avoid the rain we caught the bus to Brighton one day and Hastings the next.

All in all we enjoyed a nice relaxing break, with the town centre just a short walk away. A couple of theatres are even closer. The hotel is very clean and comfortable and the staff are extremely friendly and very helpful.

Room 2 was ground floor and sea view - but had the extractor fan for the kitchen on the outside wall. This was not a problem for us as it was switched off between 10.30 and 7 - but might annoy someone who wanted a sleep in!

Good bar. Tea available in the pleasant sea facing lounge. Dinner available in the dining room (we didn't have, so can't comment).

Small comment - at £99 a night - maybe some biscuits on the tea tray?

It's always nice when you receive value for money but at the West Rocks Hotel you get considerably more. I cannot understand why this is only an AA 2* establishment when it must be worthy of more. It's neither 5* nor trying to be, but when you consider the areas that have already been refurbished, the customer service from all the staff and the excellent position on the seafront this is a great place to stay.
We arrived early in the morning but not only did Ian, the manager, allow us to occupy the room straight away, he upgraded us from a sea view to deluxe sea view. If you can, stay in a sea view room as the view, and ability to people watch, is great.
The room and bathroom had plenty of space and both were very clean. In room facilities were adequate but with the perennial problem of a very short cord on the kettle. A couple of minor problems were reported and have hopefully been rectified.
A full English breakfast can often be judged by the quality of the sausages and in this hotel they were good as was everything else, even better than many 5* establishments I have stayed at.
We only had one dinner in the Channel Restaurant but thought it was confused. The wine list contained some higher end wines whilst the menu was very basic British cuisine. It was luck of the draw as the menu on other nights was slightly better. However, there are several good restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel should you want variety.
All-in-all, this is good place to stay when in Eastbourne although sadly the view of the pier has just changed.

My husband and I spent 2 nights in this hotel and we found the stay enjoyable but it sounds like when the refurbishment is complete this little gem will be even better.

Our room was clean with lovely clean fresh bed linen and towels. There was not much space in the bedroom or shower room but we were told than the plans are to extend the shower room in the near future. There is no evidence of the on going refurbishment and the downstairs restaurant and bar and lounge area is freshly and attractively decorated. The location is ideal for Eastbourne front and we found parking easily just outside the hotel even on a busy weekend.

Breakfast is advertised as yummy and lived up to its expectations - I especially liked the sausages and my husband loved it all enough to have second helpings.

We found all the staff especially Ian the Manager extremely helpful - we were down on family business and Ian suggested some local contacts who would help us.

I would definitely recommend this as a hotel with a warm and welcoming feeling, great service and an ideal location.

had a lovely sea and pier view room .we had a very good lunch and excellent 5 star evening meal ,all the staff at west rocks are fantastic with a special thankyou to ian and luke , we will be booking again soon xx

We stayed Sunday and Monday nights in 4 sea view rooms which have recently been tastefully re furbished. Being right on the Prom enables you to sit in the comfortable bed and watch the boats and swimmers while sipping your tea before having your yummy breakfast. Ideally placed with easy walking to 2 theatres and the Winter Gardens and the pier, the car was not necessary. A 24 hr on-street parking permit for £1 from reception allows you to easily park on the streets by the hotel.
The young team of owners and staff are all fired up with enthusiasm for the project of making the hotel one of the best in Eastbourne. Nothing is too much trouble, - the chef invents new dishes daily according to what's fresh and then asked us for our opinions and tastes so that he could provide the best.
The stay certainly changed my ideas of an English seaside resort. Eastbourne and Sussex has so much to offer for entertainment...... We will be back !

Just returned from this hotel from a weekend break with my partner. The staff were very welcoming. The sea view room was perfect, breakfast was very nice and we had dinner on one of the nights which was excellent. This hotel is very highly recommended for its location, the staff are exceptional, and the service is 5 star. They are refurbishing at the moment but this did not have an impact on our stay in the hotel, we have already booked to return.
