We had a short visit to the west rocks hotel over the weekend. And we found it delightful and very well on the way to being the hotel it should be. Yes they are going through refurbishment and they have made a point of putting up little notes apologising for this. So I see no need to complain or fuss about this, as a group of people from a coach trip were. The room we stayed in was clean. Comfortable had a beautiful sea view and very spacious bathroom. The breakfast we had was delicious and the staff were very attentive.
On the Sunday evening we decided to have a drink in the bar but there was only one member of staff to deal with reception the bar and the restaurant. We felt very sorry for him as the coach party in the restaurant weren't as easy going or understanding as Us. I think overall this is a really nice little hotel. With a great position on the seafront. We have already decided we will go back there to stay for next years air show. I look forward to seeing the whole of the hotel being refurbished.

A bit of a surprise, the room whilst basic was adequate, the restaurant was however the gem here, food was excellent, well cooked( fish is so easily over cooked, not here) and also very good value. From a very personal point of view I would like to see more new world wines on the list v the French wine. The bar was a social place where strangers conversed, not very British it seems these days. The staff deserve mention, very polite and nothing seemed too much effort.

Four of us have just stayed overnight at the West Rocks. We chose it because of it's proximity to the tennis. Whilst it is about to undergo major refurbishment, which is needed, other aspects of our stay more than made up for the dated accommodation. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the dinner in the restaurant at just £19.95 for three courses was absolutely superb with a wide choice of fresh, local fish. We will return.

We popped into the West Rocks Hotel restaurant for a quick lunch on Saturday. The entrance was rather intimidating as there was no-one about. However we quickly found someone at the far end of the empty restaurant and were told that they would be delighted to prepare lunch for us. We both had fresh fish which was also freshly cooked for us. I only wanted a fairly plain meal and they were very happy to prepare roasted cod with lightly sauteed green vegetables. It was delicious as was my husband's grilled sea bass. The staff knew that we were fairly short of time as we had a wedding to attend that afternoon and they couldn't have been more helpful.
I can thoroughly recommend the West Rocks Hotel restaurant.

The hotel has recently been renovated: rooms are very clean, staff extremely friendly and helpful, the breakfast has plenty of variety (cooked breakfast, fresh fruit, cereal, yogurts, pastries and choice of breads and rolls).
We were upgraded to a sea view room free of charge which was a treat (very large room 17, first floor). Just note that sea view rooms also face the main road along the seafront, so some may find this a little too noisy.
All facilities feel new, clean and fresh! Compared to some rather tired and worn-out accommodation in the same area this is a gem!
You can stay for cheaper as well as more expensive in Eastbourne, but from extensive experience, this was one of the friendliest and neatest places and at about £90 for a double room pretty fairly priced.
Cannot fault it, would go back anytime!

Lovely hotel, newly refurbished, clean and tidy. All the staff are extremely helpful and pleasant, nothing is too much bother. Would especially like to mention Ian, Steve, Maddie and Alistair, great staff, very helpful. We got married while we were there and they made it special, champagne waiting for us when we got back to the hotel. Room was great, overlooking the sea, they have a lift to all floors. Breakfast, there's plenty to choose from, fruit, yoghurts, toast, full English, jams, marmalades tea or coffee amd fruit juice. They even carried our cases to our car the day we left. 10 out of 10 for this lovely hotel.

We read good reviews about this hotel and decided to book a night there. We stayed on Saturday 13 June (£130.00) and I have to say that we were quite disappointed.
I booked a superior double with sea view but the hotel allocated us a room with twin beds (room 18), and when I queried why I was told that the hotel is full and it was just a request. The hotel is in a dire need of refurbishment. Room are very basic, not even a hairdryer.
The great customer service referred to in some of the reviews was nowhere to be seen (maybe on a weekend break😀)
The so called Yummy Breakfast too... As when we went downstairs at 0900 hours almost everything was empty, so we decided to go get breakfast somewhere else.

A lovely hotel with very good staff. In the middle of a very discreet refurb and the areas which have been done look excellent...except... Who the hell painted the window frames!?!? Nearly every window has paint slapped around the edges and even on the window! Rest of room - perfect. Look at window - rubbish. Contrary?! Rooms we had was very comfortable. Great nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. These old Victorian properties have such thick walls you don't get disturbed by others. But - the curtains didn't close fully so we were woken by sun blasting through the gaps each morning. Contrary again! Curtains were Beautifully made, lovely colour with nice triple pleats. But as a curtain maker of 30 years I know triple pleat curtains have to be exact as there's no give. Such a shame.
Bathroom - nicely refurbed - until you sit on the toilet and see the raw tile edge! I'd kill a tiler who did that in my house! No bin - please can you put a bin in the bathroom? And no shelf or small cabinet for tranquelments (Yorkshire word for stuff!😀). Contrary again! Oh and first time in years I've visited a hotel where I had to go ask for a hairdryer. Put one in the room! This is such small stuff and would make such a difference to the overall feel.

Breakfast was very nice but - my pet hate - finished at 9.30. I'm on holiday! I get up every morning for work and the lovely thing about a holiday is putting the alarm away. I looked this up in frustration and gather it's industry standard? Well the 'industry' needs a rethink in my book.

Attached restaurant is a gem. Gorgeous food. Beautiful presentation and service. And excellent value. Can't get a scallop starter and sea bass main where I live for £15!

So, a lovely place which, with a couple of minor tweaks would be even better. Sorry I know I'm picky and I don't usually write long reviews but your place frustrated me so much I had to say. I hope your business goes from strength to strength and am sure it will. Ps my mum liked the waiter/receptionist with the dimples 😉. He was lovely and made us feel very welcome. The other staff were equally good. My thanks to them all.

What a great find the West Rocks, recommended by a friend who stayed here we booked a night on the May Bank holiday and were not disappointed. The welcoming staff made us feel at home straight away and our room was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, tasteful but not pretentious, with a huge bay window overlooking the beach and sea. After a nice walk down the beach front we ordered the fresh beer battered cod and chips, that was incredibly fresh, light and tasty, which they kindly served in the sun lounge area as we were trying to get the baby off to sleep. After supper our 10 month old son had a brand new cot in which he slept soundly, and our bed was also firm, large and luxurious, so we too slept well. Next morning breakfast was bought out fresh and we had a tasty and filling full English, followed by a continental Pan au Chocolat, with fresh tea and coffee. Overall the place was warm and friendly and feels like a family run hotel and we'd definitely return there, hopefully very soon!

Had a great stay here with my mum and my two young boys. The service is super friendly and the decor is lovely. Great The deluxe Seaview rooms are amazing. We would definitely visit here as a family again. The restaurant menu looks absolutely gastronomic amazing, however we didn't sample as my two young boys would've probably 10 at the place up. The breakfast is also very good and service very attentive. The twin room in comparison was not as warm and Did not have the wow factor of s the main Seaview room but I guess that's why you pay more for the deluxe room. Plenty of places to eat and recommended On trip Advisor both to the left of the promenade and to the right. We also enjoyed a lovely walk along the Esplanade after evening meal and the boys just loved running up and down the beach. We Visited Birling Gap for a day which is a very short drive away and had the most amazing day rock pooling and strolling around the coastal walks.

Hotel right on the beach front, so could walk on the beach just stepping out from the hotel door. Staff very helpful and friendly. Got upgraded because my bed wasn't made up and ended up in a very nice room with sea view. Lift is very old but works. Breakfast is good.

My wife and I spent a lovely weekend on 6th of June food was delicious there restaurant serves great food we had a great room great view staff were very helpful great location one problem service at the bar was very slow but that was all no complaints would go again

Spotless bathroom, big telly and very good breakfast.
Left my phone charger behind and they tracked it down and posted it on to me. Really helpful. Have stayed at three hotels that adjoin and this comes out first by miles.
Parking free overnight outside too!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. The areas where the hotel have been refurbished are tasteful, modern and homely. The staff are welcoming, friendly and eager to please. Our room was one waiting for a full refurbishment yet still had brand new carpets, quality bed, mattress pillows and bedding and was immaculate. Only problem we encountered was the shower head fell against the wall which meant we need to hold it in our hands to wash, and the singular glazing which meant we heard the staff working from 6am. This however did not put us off returning again in fact we are planning our next visit soon!

They happily and easily catered for members of a Brass Band at the busy time of End of May Bank Holiday. The rooms were clean, the breakfast plentiful, the welcome excellent. Being disabled, they found me an excellent room that was quiet and comfortable. I'd return any time.

A most enjoyable 3 night break at West Rocks Hotel for our family party of ten ranging in age from 7 to 86 years of age ! Ian ( hotel manager) and his staff were most accommodating and professional. West Rocks offers the best of a traditional British seaside hotel with a modern ambiance . Excellent location for seafront with wonderful seaviews and easy parking nearby . Good quality food - especially enjoyed the breakfast and the fish dishes in the Channel restaurant ! A good value hotel ( in the best sense) which the whole family would be happy to return to . Eastbourne was delightful .

As far as affordable hotels go, this is one of the better one's Ive stayed in. The frustrating thing is that it could be great, with just a little bit more attention.

But lets start with the good. The hotel is opposite the beach in a pretty spot, parking is easy and the hotel reception have cleverly thought of parking permits you can buy off them. Breakfast is plentiful with a good choice of naughty and nice things. The reception staff are incredibly amenable and helpful, and even let me clean my baby in their office bless them!

We love that the hotel is pet friendly too. Smart move.

Rooms are big and very clean, and beds are comfy - although I did find the pillows a little high. Amenities are good, although surprised there;s no mini bar.

The downside - rooms are loud because there;'s no double glazing, so drunken people walking past will sound like they're in your room! Also, some of the cleaning staff in the hotel don't knock before coming in your room, which is very unprofessional.

We were also disappointed that the bar closed early, because they didn't feel it was worth staying open later. And WiFi needs some serious improving too, as does the lift.

I think the hotel is doing it's best to improve and get better, and I'd certainly visit again if I was in the area. I hope they can take on board some of this feedback, as I think it has the potential to be really great.

I'd like to personally thank the gentleman on reception who was very polite, accommodating and did his best to ensure we had a great stay.

After looking at many recent reviews of this hotel we booked a night on the May bank holiday weekend, what a mistake it turned out to be, firstly when we arrived check in went well but parking outside we thought, great a space right in front of the hotel, went in and they said oh you can't have our £1 permit as that space isn't included. Going up to our room I decided to go in the lift with my grandad and the luggage,it was very old fashioned with a gate you had to yank open and hold open another door as well, if an elderly person went on their own I doubt they would manage, got to the room, it was ok but towels were on the beds instead of I the bathroom, the bathroom was small, the bath hardly fitted and with 2 teenagers with long legs we bumped into the sink several times. Decided to go to the bar for a snack and found no chairs available so we decided to go out for a bite to eat. When we came back we asked for more tea and milk, we got a small shopping basket with it in which I thought was good. 3 teabags were enough for 5 cups so we didn't need the extra teabags in the end, warning, there is no hot chocolate! At around 6:45 in the morning (Monday) a bin lorry parked outside, very noisy perhaps soundproof windows would be better. Followed the signs to a yummy breakfast, or so it promised, complained because it was cold and whilst eating ours we heard someone say they would get a discount on their credit card, don't know what that was about. Cracks in all the tea cups, pots and milk jugs, new China needed! When it came to checkout we simply placed our keys on the desk and walked out, there was no one sat there to say goodbye have a safe journey, our room was 24, triple sea view room and 27 which was a twin room. We did not use the wifi so can't comment on it.

I've stayed in half a dozen hotels in Eastbourne. This is the best of them. I don't intend trying any more. This hotel has clearly been extensively modernised and decorated. Smart rooms, quality furniture and fittings, comfortable lounge and a lovely bar area, with the promise of further improvements. There is also an excellent restaurant specialising in fresh, locally caught sea food. Well done!

Three of us visited the West Rocks Hotel for one night. We were upgraded to a family suite (Room 26), which gave us a saving against two rooms. The suite has two private bedrooms - one double and one single, plus a bathroom. The double has a sea view.The rooms were spacious and clean, the beds, probably the most comfortable we have slept in!

The "yummy" breakfast is just that and "all you can eat", delicious. We tried the in-house Channel Restaurant as it, as the rooms, is keenly priced. The meals were again delicious, but (for me) a little small.

All the staff are very friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome. There is an old, but small lift - tight for three adults and luggage!

The hotel is ideally located opposite the beach. There is no on-site parking, but there is a multi-storey car park approx. 350 yards away (Trinity Place) that charges only £3.90 for 24 hours and locked overnight.

We gather that the hotel is under new management with on-going refurbishment, though this was unobtrusive.

This hotel is on the way up and we would be happy to visit again.

On holiday from Australia, this hotel was the perfect British Seaside Experience. I was there with a couple of friends so got to see different rooms in West Rocks.
The owners are part way through renovations and some areas of the hotel are further ahead in the process than others. The ground floor area is really smart with a comfortable lounge, bar and dining room. The hotel is on the seafront so there are stunning views of the water from the public areas and many of the bedrooms.
The rooms that have been fully renovated are very stylish with great finishes and super bathrooms; the room that my friend stayed in was nicely decorated but the bathroom and corridor were an older style, apparently they will all be at top standard by the end of the year. The best thing is that when we booked they were really clear with us which rooms were fully finished and which had more work to do - and they were priced accordingly. Most importantly all the beds are brand new and very comfortable - I nearly missed breakfast I slept so well.
The hot breakfast was delicious and the chef kept bringing out more food and replacing everything that had sat on the buffet tray for a while - it was all very fresh.
Overall I loved this hotel, the staff, the atmosphere, the views and the room. Highly recommended.

Stayed here for one night and it was a very nice pleasant place to stay. Lady on reception very friendly and helpful showed us to our room which was number 5 on the ground floor. Room was very clean and tidy not much room too many chairs not enough space for them. TV is VERY small more like a computer screen very tiny. Bathroom VERY small shower very tiny spoilt it really because it was all just too small. But it was all there and ok for one night. We had a few drinks from the bar and sat looking out at the sea which was nice. The leaflets say large tearoom not sure where that was? It also said they served afternoon tea with a selection of cakes and pastries? Didnt see any of that either we would have had some! In the evening we asked the guy at the bar if they served food other than in the fish restaurant and he said no? However a bit later we saw another guy asked him the same question and he gave us a menu! A very limited menu for a snack but was had a baguette and it was very nice but they nearly lost out on that food order! Dining room for breakfast very nice clean and fresh breakfast is buffet and cereal and toast not a lot of choice but what was there was very nice we paid £59 for the night for the two of us a bit over the top i think but i have no major issues with the place and i would stay there again. However they have lots of competiton in Eastbourne so i think you have to offer that bit extra to get customers to return. But all in all a nice place to stay. Parking we had no problems with but get a voucher from the hotel it only costs £1 for the day

For 65 Pounds on a Friday Night, A Really Beautiful View And A Good Fry Up You Really Can't Fault It.

Stayed for one night in March. Generally goody experience. Going back for 3 nights in May and looking forward to trying their fish restaurant.
Location on seafront is great and I chose a room with sea view. The room was tiny and redecorated rather than refurbished (uneven floorboards under the carpet made a bad impression). It was a pity that when fitting out the room (clearly recently) they didn't take more advantage of the view. Only room for a single chair with a bench/desk which did not allow me to look out of window if I sat down. The very small TV took up quite a chunk of the bench space. If arranged differently it could have been so much better. If the TV were wall-mounted it would create more usable space. The layout of the tiny bathroom was also awkward and fittings old fashioned (new, separate hot and cold taps in 2015?) although everything worked. When redecoration of the common areas is complete the overall impression should be better. The ground floor lounge is poorly laid out and has groups of uncomfortable old armchairs. I hope that will be improved. It's a great location on a corner overlooking the sea and it ought to make a better impression.
The included breakfast was very good with a good range of choices (including gluten-free bread on request which was useful for me).
There was an interesting local art sale taking place in the basement. I hope similar activities will continue to be a feature of the hotel.
All staff were helpful, friendly and informative which helped make the stay pleasant and led to my decision to return again for longer.
