Just a couple of nights mid week break and we were offered a double with sea view. Wow. Well almost wow. It was a stretch of someone's imagination to call this room a double!. Large single maybe but for only two nights it was just about acceptable. Nothing special about the room- usual facilities but no bath just a standard shower.
We came to re-examine the menu. Our last visit the chef made an excellent effort at producing a special fish dish. A word with the powers that be and we learned that the chef had since left for pastures new! However, in their words, the replacement was "very good". He tried to emulate his predecessor but not quite of the same standard.
Our initial thoughts were that this new hotel was going to offer something extra but it now appears that it has decided to be in the middle road along with the majority of other Eastbourne establishments.

The service is fantastic, can not complain about that in any way. They go out of their way to ensure you are happy and breakfast was delicious.

If you are taking your dog their is a £7.50 surcharge that is added to your total stay (I was unaware of that as I booked through Booking.com and there was nothing that stated this).
However, they are more than happy to accommodate you and your dog at breakfast time; you can either leave your 4 legged friend in reception OR as long as the weather is nice, you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful views (or you can leave it in your room). The staff are more than happy to bring drinks up to you from the breakfast room so that you don't have to leave your dog unattended if you choose to sit outside.

The only downside was the room, although a good size and an amazing view there were a few problems, the bathroom was rather small as was the shower, not much room to move in it, there was a bit of damp on the walls near the basin, the basin tap was very wobbly, the toilet didn't flush properly BUT the manager is getting the rest of the hotel done up starting at the end of the year (I overheard a conversation) so these issues will no doubt be rectified. Please do not let these things put you off though if it is only a 1 or 2 night stay, do however bring a hairdryer ladies! As I didn't and there wasn't one in the room, had to let my hair dry naturally (major trauma haha).

Great hotel on the sea front with on street parking. Can collect a parking permit from reception for £1.
The evening meal we had at the hotel was lovely. Steak cooked to perfection and drinks were not expensive.
Close to the theatre, 5 min walk. easy to get around for someone with mobility problems. all staff were friendly and efficient - cant fault them!
The breakfast was also fantastic - buffet style help yourself.
overall I had a lovely stay at this hotel and i would not hesistate to return if i visit eastbourne again
The rooms were clean with tea and coffee making facilities, tv and clean bathroom

Small room, double bed was against a side wall with a wardrobe at the foot so you have to climb over the person next to you to get out or shuffle out at the end! Room no.10. This room was listed with a sea view however it should say partial sea view as it overlooks the hotel opposite. The room was very clean and the beds very comfortable. The bathroom is very small as is the bath, just about enough room to dry off. No towel storage in bathroom.water heated by immersion but seemed adequate. Breakfast was very limited on choice, only fried eggs, but when I asked for poached there was no problem. No yohgurt only what was put into a jar! The hotel is typical victorian with lounge/bar area to match. Well positioned for all eastbourne has to offer. Parking outside on street very hit and miss for a space however the hotel has permits for a pound.

Had a brilliant time with my wife staying at this Hotel nights very recently. It is very hard to find anything negative to say about the hotel, all of the staff were very friendly and happy to help, gave a very homely atmosphere and the rooms were absolutely spotless. The hotel is also situated in a great location where all attractions are easily accessible by foot. After eating at the fish restaurant upon arrival which was simply superb we decided we wouldn't eat anywhere else for the duration of our stay. We were never let down!

Without a doubt I would use this Hotel again!

The West Rocks is an exceptionally charming hotel which combines the feel of a seaside, Victorian hotel with a contemporary chic flair. Beautifully decorated bar and dining areas, and very friendly, welcoming staff, make this one of Eastbourne's finest. The West Rocks is one of the few privately owned hotels on the seafront and this really shows in the friendliness and enthusiasm of the owners and their staff. It is definitely one of Eastbourne's gems.

Most enjoyable stay at the West Rocks Hotel in Eastbourne.
Room was very clean and staff were more than helpful during our stay with 2 dogs !
The Channel restaurant offers great fresh locally caught fish, which is so nice to see a business supporting the local fishing community.
Breakfast was varied and delicious and staff went out of their way to accommodate us and our 2 dogs as obviously we couldn't eat in the main restaurant , so brought our breakfast to the lounge area. Steve and Chris the owners were most hospitable and Ian the manager made our stay very memorable .
A great hotel with a great atmosphere ! West Rocks ... You Rock ... Will be seeing you very soon for a return visit x

Stayed for 2 nights, room small, bathroom very small but all clean and in good order. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice of hot food, fruit, yoghurt, croissant, juices. The location is great its right on the sea front and you get a parking permit for all day for £1 if you're taking the car. The bar and restaurant have sea views, also there's a lounge with wifi and a little sun terrace. Staff were pleasant and made you feel welcome, all in all a nice stay at a decent price. This hotel was bought and refurbished last year and we were told more work is taking place in the autumn I think when its all complete it will be even better, I would go back

A great hotel, in a superb beachfront location. The manager can not do enough for you. Me and my whole family would recommend. Great having a low cost parking permit, saved a fortune. Breakfasts were great, help yourself and we were well attended too by the serving staff offering teas and coffee top ups.

Would not look to go elsewhere if needed to stay in Eastbourne again.

Would also recommend a trip to the Belgian cafe, Qualisea fish restaurant and Pomodoro e Mozerella on Cornfield terrace.

Stayed there in July 2015, 2 adults and a 5-year-old. Good breakfast, with plenty to eat. Room was large, and a seperate, joining room for the kid. It was clean, and the staff was polite and helpful. The 2 really negative points are the old elevator, not paractical at all, and the bathroom, which was way too tiny. Also we had booked a room with sea view, but only had partiall view, and it is quite hard to get the wi-fi ( impossible in the rooms )

I booked this hotel on the trip advisor reviews, which is why I have to be honest, so you can make an informed choice.
With the exception of checking in sign here, breakfast times, room number, door key.. There was no interaction with staff so I could not be swayed by their friendly chitchat.
The room was small, we stayed 2 nights, a week would have been unbearable in such a small space.
The bed was exceptional the bedding and towels very good quality. Flat screen tv good, kettle etc OK but plugged into an extension lead which was plugged into a socket on the other side of the room and has come away from the wall. This was next to the bed and necessary for phone charging, so used frequently.
The room has been recently decorated in white paint and is clean the furniture is dated and well worn.
All perfectly serviceable and acceptable and OK but nothing more.
The bathroom is just feet from the end of the bed, the door is a poorly fitting flimsy plastic concertina affair. I may be the exception here but I really like my bathroom habits to be in total privacy and I was mortified . I accept it is a personal thing and move swiftly on.
The bathroom is new, shower, loo sink basic but serviceable, the water pressure is poor but OK. The shower surround needs a good clean and we had to have the receptionist up to empty the plug to allow the water to run away, but I couldn't say it was awful, just OK.
Breakfast was again basic, I couldn't quite get the queue for a conveyer toast machine that fed in cold bread passed it under heat and dropped out warm bread.. I just couldn't be bothered so we didn't have breakfast on day 2.
We stayed in room 39, outside the room is a door, every time someone goes through it it bangs, staff start at 7, breakfast is 7.30, don't expect a lay in! It is the same on all levels, and every child bangs every door.
There is a hairdryer at reception, it is worth knowing before you shower..
The location is good, directly opposite the seafront but so are all the other hotels and guesthouses..
I loved Eastbourne and the hotel was OK I can't say there was anything terribly wrong, but nothing was amazing
It was all just OK. I would not stay here again.

Recently spent two nights here.Lovely Hotel, near to town, pier & bandstand. Staff very helpful & friendly. Breakfast serve yourself, could do with more choice of way eggs are cooked. I paid to have a seaview room which was very nice, bathroom rather small but adequate. Would certainly stay thee again.

Wonderful stay. The staff were so helpful & friendly - they couldn't do enough to help with my 2 young children by putting up travel cots, providing high chairs etc. the restaurant serves fabulous food -especially the local fish dishes - and is good value. The hotel was very clean and my room (number 17) had a great sea view. I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be staying here again.

A warm welcome followed by a super view of the sea from our newly refurbished room was a great start to our short break. Only a few steps to the beach with the bandstand close by and everything else a short walk away. Staff were friendly and keen to help and the restaurant food was excellent. Plenty on offer locally in the way of entertainment. Be sure to ask for a voucher for low cost on street parking.

We went on a coach holiday for 5 days. All meals were taken in the breakfast room in the basement. The evening meals were very resricted with no coffee or tea drinks as part of the meal. Our bedroom was number 11 and I found it to be very spacious but the drawers and wardrobe was old and needed to be changed. The bathroom did not have any facilities such has a shelve over the washing basin or pegs/rails for the towels. The shower floor was slippery and had no grab rail. The lift was ancient and small and very hard to operate it by opening and closing 2 doors. The disabled access was near the kichens and not intended to be a public assess. EVERYTHING you needed, such as a nonslip mat has to requested.

We arrived to be greeted by a friendly and helpful reception, got checked in promptly and directed to room 35 (family room with the most amazing views)

The hotel is clean, spacious and the beds were super comfy (excellent nights sleep) the owners are doing a fantastic job bringing this beautiful building up to date.

The location is perfect on the sea front and a short walk from the pier & town centre. The views from the hotel are beautiful and make you fall in love with the British seaside.

I am writing this review after just experiencing the 'yummy' breakfast which lived up to its name, help yourself hot buffet breakfast with a great selection of good quality produce. There was also a nice selection of fruits, pastries and yoghurt.

All in all the stay so far deserves 5 stars and I will defiantly be recommending and coming to see the West Rocks team again...

Thank you 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Just got back from a great weekend, the hotel was perfect for our needs. The staff were all very friendly and seemed to be enjoying working there. The breakfast was good and it was great to be able to help yourself to what you wanted, it kept us going until the evening. Our room at the top no. 47 had a great side view of the sea needed a bit of up dating which I understand is happening soon. We would recommend this hotel.

When we visited the hotel was in the first 6 months of new management, we were unsure what to expect because of mixed reviews on trip adviser. Our room had recently been decorated and looked good, we had a sea front room with great views of the sea. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was good. Highly recconmend this hotel.

The West Rocks Hotel in Eastbourne is a classic seaside hotel that hearkens back to a time when life moved a little slower. My wife and I enjoyed an overnight stay whilst travelling around the UK. Upon arrival we received a friendly greeting from Ian, the manager and after a short chat (well not that short), we made our way upstairs to our room. Don't panic, there is a lift. We had chosen Room # 17 based on photos on the hotels web page and it did not disappoint. The room was a large seaside facing room with all of the usual inclusions. The en-suite is equipped with a shower over bath. Free on-street parking is offered by the hotel with a windscreen voucher available with reception. After a wander around Eastbourne, we returned to the hotel and had dinner in the hotels restaurant on the ground floor. The 3 course meal was tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfast is served in the below ground level and is of a buffet style. The food was fresh with a reasonable variety to suit most dietary choices. Overall we would certainly recommend the West Rocks hotel to other travelers. Ian the manager told us that the hotel is constantly improving and addressing any concerns raised by guests. Eastbourne is a lot quieter than Brighton and is a good base to explore the local area.

This is a classic English seaside hotel. So set expectations accordingly. Our room (37) was clean and recently redecorated and comes with a separate room for the third bed. The bathroom is obviously next on the list for renovation - and the sooner the better really. The fact the room is on the third floor does come through in the water pressure, there is not a single hook for towels, so when this is done, the room will be great.
They are working on the hotel, and the staff are delightful and incredibly helpful. It will be interesting to visit in a few months to see it fully redone - good luck!

My Wife and I booked West Rocks for our Wedding Reception venue and Ian and Steve were amazing in fact all the staff were very helpful and polite. I stayed in room 26 suite a which is a family room 1 double bed 1 single with the my best women. Breakfast was superb. Day of the wedding Ian and his staff got the room ready for our buffet and the food was excellent. The wife and I then stayed in room 29 which had a sea view and was amazing. Can't fault either room and the wedding reception went perfectly. So a personal thanks to Ian and Steve for helping us make our wedding day special.

Having never been to Eastbourne before, we decided to come down for the tennis as the wife is a big fan. The trip was also to celebrate our 40th Wedding anniversary so as the West Rocks had good recent reviews, was ideally located for the tennis and had a deluxe room available, it ticked all the boxes for a special occasion. Most of the tennis players were in the hotel across the road (The View?) and it was amazing seeing these millionaire sportswomen walking through the streets to Devonshire Park with their racket bags over their shoulders.
Our room No was 29 on 2nd floor and had fantastic bay window views of the beach to the front, the pier to the left and the fort to the right. We even had a perfect view of the fireworks at 10pm after the bandstand concert on Wednesday.
The deluxe room was beautifully furnished with ample space and more than enough wardrobe space and a decent bathroom. Wifi is only available in the lounge.
The lounge area is large and spacious and breakfast is served in the basement where there is ample food to cater for all needs. We didn't eat here at night but others did and it has a good reputation for fish dishes.
The car parking arrangements were good - you paid a pound per day to the hotel for a card to put in your windscreen. Booking in took a little time with the hotel being full for tennis week and the pregnant receptionist was a bit flustered. Didn't see her again on the following days so I hope she got a well earned rest and put her feet up!
The lift is small and a bit tricky for 2 getting in with a case but we got used to it.
Apparently some rooms have still to be refurbished and the staff are working hard to build a good reputation. I look forward to similar standards when I return here for the Tennis next year.

We stayed here a few years ago & it was dropping to bits. Being on a budget we thought we would risk trying it again. The happy greeting on the reception was more than we got last time. Both rooms we had had been decorated well (the bathrooms are being done this winter I was told). The beds & furniture no longer looked as if they were found in a skip. The dining room has been moved upstairs & turned into a very good fish restaurant. Breakfast is still served down stairs, but it no longer resembles a bunker & is bright and airy. Dont get me wrong they have lots of work still to do, & if you are fussy, you can easily pick fault with peeling paper etc. BUT just compare what you are getting for other hotels in the same area. We have booked again for next year as have 30 colleagues !!.
A big thank you to the helpful staff & to Ian the manager, we had an issue with noisy guests, he took ownership of the problem & made sure it was resolved.
