We just booked in for the one night we were in Eastbourne, and what a delight. The hotel areas were very relaxing and the staff very attentive and efficient. Our room had wonderful views over the seafront and the sea, and was extremely comfortable with a very good-sized bed. The one area that should be improved was that the shower was a little small and the control easily knocked from hot to cold and vice versa, but that is a minor quibble. The restaurant is reviewed elsewhere but suffice it to say that the food was superb, and is well worth visiting just to eat.

Stayed here early last year, just after it had been taken over my current mgmt and to be fair it needed a lot of TLC (renovations had only just started). Went back there this week for a night as we needed a reasonably priced room on the seafront. Wow, what an improvement. £75 for a triple room with breakfast is fairly modest but value for money, I can't fault it. The room was impeccable and the beds very luxurious. Staff are friendly and the hotel feels as though it's had a genuine lift. Wouldn't hesitate to book again. Good work people, we really enjoyed our stay albeit for a night only.

Spent two nights here....breakfast was good...full English buffet, cereal, juice, toast, croissants, plenty of tea and coffee and small selection of fresh fruit and small pots of fruit purée with yogurt.
The rooms were comfortable and clean....ours had a sea view. Think we were in one of the rooms due for a re furb as the bathroom was very small and dated.
Overall good value for money stay and yes I would go back.

Comfy bed. Brilliant sea view. Excellent food-that good we dined in the restaurant every night! Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a lovely atmosphere and is in the process of updating which did not detract from an enjoyable time. The Crafty Blonde is a good pint! Parking at a pound a day is good value! We would definitely stay again if in the area!

My wife and I spent a night at this hotel, and were very impressed. The relatively new owners appear to be modernising the place with style and have already made it a lovely place to stay. I have a feeling it is going to get better and better.
Our room was spacious and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly.
The hotel is right on the sea front, so has a wonderful location.
Breakfast was excellent.
What more can I say? If we return to Eastbourne, this is where we shall stay.

This hotel is very near the centre of Eastbourne but on the seaside. An excellent location, clean, friendly staff, sharp prices and a lovely breakfast. Highly recommended. We were there with three adults and one child. We loved it very much.

Just returned from a 2-night stay. The situation of the hotel is perfect - especially for someone, like myself, with restricted mobility.
The staff were very friendly and very accommodating. We had a lovely room - with a bijou shower room. Our room was very clean with good decor.
Dinner in The Channel Restaurant was excellent, food was of a high standard and value for money.
However, we were very disappointed with breakfast. There were cereals, yoghurt and a very small amount of fruit. The choice and amount of fruit available was very poor. There was 50 minutes of breakfast time left this morning when we got to the buffet and there were 7 blueberries left and no more were available when we asked.
There was nothing available if you didn't want a full cooked breakfast. Neither was there a choice of eggs - other than fried. There was a box of white sliced bread and a box of brown sliced bread!! A choice of breads would have been good.
The staff were very slow at clearing the tables. A very poor experience!

My wife and I spent a couple of nights at the West Rocks in room 17. Well worth paying the extra for the sea view. Room was spacious, clean and tidy. Bed was very comfy. Some of the floor boards were a bit creaky, caused a few giggles when we got up during the night. Bathroom was compact but fun getting two in the bath/shower.

Breakfast was buffet style; like all buffets bacon and sausages prone to drying out. Have definitely had worse hotel breakfasts, would rate breakfast here as good.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Worth making use of the parking permits, though I found spaces near the hotel filled up quickly; second night we came back at 9.30pm and had to park almost near the pier.

We would definitely recommend this hotel, if you can get a room with a sea view then do so, and I am sure we will stay here again in the future.

Stayed for one night, checked in by a lovely bubbly girl on reception, had a ground floor room. It was a bit chilly but soon warmed up with a heater. Lovely crisp sheets, comfortable bed and nice grapefruit shower gel.

Breakfast really lived up to its name yummy!!! Again staff couldn't do enough for you.

Great hotel, great location will 100% stay again.

I do not normally write reviews, but have had such a good time at this hotel that I felt I must. I have stayed here 3 times now. The staff are always very welcoming and friendly, the beds extremely comfortable, the breakfast lovely and the hotel is in an excellent location and very good value for money...what more could you want?

We booked last minute and had a sea view room which was lovely. The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment and so it would be expected that next time the room would be up to date and sparkling. That said, it was clean and had a very comfortable bed. The windows and door did rattle but with some card that was soon eliminated. The quality of the food at breakfast was superb. Altogether a great hotel and we look forward to seeing more improvements at our next stay.

Hotel on the sea front. My single room was clean and comfortable and I had sea views. The hotel was being updated but everything was to hand. The lift was quiet and quick.
Food was good with plenty of choice. Staff were local and very friendly and competent. Overall I had a good holiday there and would visit again.

Stayed here last week and can not fault the hotel, the public areas are beautifully decorated my room was sea view and was very large. All the staff i encouted where friendly danny on reception helped with all my needs and steve who i believe runs the resturant and bar had extensive knowledge of the local area and the bar products "crafty blonde" is a must!!!

After arranging to visit a friend in Eastbourne who I hadn't seen for some years I decided to book a few nights in a hotel and stay for a couple of nights to see some of East Sussex. I chose the West Rock based on the reviews on here, which mainly varied from average to good.

Pulling up outside I felt quite disappointed. West Rocks is a beautiful Victorian building with lovely tiled stairs leading to reception but the outside looks shabby with a few half dead plants and a desperate need for a lick of paint. However, parking was easy and you can get an all day parking ticket for the bargain price £1! Something that astounded me as someone from London where you can rarely park for £1 an hour.

The reception area is not inviting, with the staff polite but not very welcoming. The hallways are very dated ( although there are signs saying they are being redecorated) and the antiquated lift is like something from the Overlook Hotel from The Shining. Very small,dingy and with an inside gate that's extremely heavy and hard to manage.

When I arrived at my room (30) the first thing that hit me was the musty smell and very large damp patch on the wall behind the TV. Considering that this was a 'deluxe ' room I was very disappointed. However, the room is quite large with a great view overlooking the seafront and you can open the windows right up to take in the sights and sounds. I could see pier and bandstand ( and also hear it) from my room. You also get to hear the sea lapping on the beach at night which is very relaxing and sent me right off to sleep ( the bed was very comfortable also). I was extremely lucky to have beautiful warm and sunny weather while in Eastbourne which meant I could have my windows wide open the whole time which helped to get rid of some of the musty smell of the room. The room was clean but basic and you have to ask for a hairdryer as they don't keep them in the rooms. The bathroom was quite small but also very clean, however, the hot water needed to be run for about 5 minutes before it started to heat up.

I had paid for breakfast with my room and I wish I hadn't bothered. Not only do they only serve breakfast between 7.30am - 9.30am but the breakfast was truly awful. On both mornings the sausages were stone cold, with the rest of the 'hot' breakfast being barely warm. The waiting staff didn't acknowledge me on either morning, despite there hardly being any guests there and I had to ask for my coffee on both mornings.

I didn't have any real interaction with the staff other than a deputy manager who kindly opened up the bar after it had shut to get me a g&t. However I was charged £4.80 for the pleasure of it so didn't visit the bar again. Another gripe, you cannot get wifi in the rooms - you have to go down to reception. For someone who needs wifi for business this is a real problem as I can't be expected to keep running downstairs every time I want to send an email or use the web.

Overall the West Rocks is 'OK'. It is a lovely building with some decent sized rooms overlooking the sea. With some redecorating it could be a nice hotel, but they certainly shouldn't advertise a deluxe room with damp patches. For £80 a night with a lovely sea view I'd probably visit again but would steer clear of the terror lift and awful breakfast.

If it wasn't for the overcast chilly weather my weekend would have been just perfect.
Another comfortable stay opposite the sea, an excellent location and again lovely friendly staff. Visiting Eastbourne again for a beauty treatment and a show and stayed in a single room because I was on my own which was clean tidy and pretty with rose patterned curtains. Spare blanket and tea and coffee facilities. The kettle was broken around the handle but I managed to get it to work. Only one sachet of gel and shampoo and one bar of soap and they didn't lather up very well so had to use my own. Rates a bit highter this time probably due to run up to xmas. Shower was very modern and easy to function but the towels weren't very modest! I was disappointed to find that there was absence of hairdryer so had to use my towel.
This hotel is currently advertising xmas deals at their hotel 'turkey and tinsel weekends' and reductions at their restaurant if you stay. Wanted to book another night with my new boyfriend who was visiting England but was put off by the reception filled with new mothers/prams etc which really put/turned me off any chance of a bit of romance!

I travelled here for a few days at the beginning of September for my anniversary. The hotel was very quaint, the staff were friendly and we paid an extra £10 for a lovely sea view room. The only reason this doesn't get 5* is because the double bed was actually two twin beds pushed together, creating a very uncomfortable seam in the middle of the bed.

Hotel is in a great location and on arrival we got a permit to allow us to park our car outside the hotel, which cost £1.

Staff were very polite and helpful.

Room was very clean, but a little dated and bathroom could do with a makeover.

Breakfast was excellent and again customer service was good. Young waitress who served us was very well mannered.

This was just a stop over hotel for us and a bargain price.

Would recommend this hotel, thank you for a lovely stay.

My mum and I stayed for a 2 night weekend break in the West Rocks Hotel. We were made very welcome from the moment we arrived. We were early so we sat in the lounge and had a drink and a bite to eat which was very nice. Wi fi in the lounge. Showed to our room an hour early (1pm) and Ian the Manager carried our cases up for us. We booked a sea view room which was very spacious, clean and comfortable with a wonderful sea view. There was tea and coffee making facilities and a television in the room. If you require a hairdryer, just ask at reception. We ate in the restaurant the first evening and the meal was so delicious we decided to eat in the restaurant on our second evening. We were not disappointed – again the food was excellent. Buffet breakfast was very good. The hotel is in a great position, very central to theatres, shops, pier etc. We had a very enjoyable, relaxing stay. Thank you to Ian, Steve, Emily and Josh (Happy 18th Birthday) for looking after us. We will definitely be booking to stay in the West Rocks Hotel again."

This is a great location on the waterfront. Hotel was clean. The room was large and bed comfortable. Not luxury but had what we needed. Nice views. Shame that the breakfast room was in the basement despite the fact that there was a lovely restaurant area with a good view. Staff were not suited to the hospitality industry (eg. one staff member decided to close the bar early because he had a personal phone call to make). Breakfast was not that nice. If you're just looking for a bed for the night this is perfect. If you're wanting more it probably won't hit the mark.

Stayed for the Eastbourne Airborne air show. Fantastic location right on the sea front. Nice size room with great view. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast good. Noticed they are dog friendly so will bring our pooch next time !

Went for a weekend at last minute and booked into this hotel. Had a fantastic time, hotel great value clean and staff excellent can't fault it would recommend to anyone. Good location on seafront. Nothing too much trouble for the staff who guided us to a fantastic local pub and helped us have a wonderful two days.

Room was clean and comfortable but renovation you can see is seriously needed to bring the hotel up to date.
Very good bed with what was an excellent quality mattress! Clean sheets and pillowcases and also clean towels were all laid out in a very decorative fashion on the bed which was a nice touch!

No WiFi in the room as only available in the lower ground floor, hotel needs repeaters placed around on each floor so guests have access to internet at all times, other hotels do it so time the West Rocks hotel did it too! Some of the rooms need renovation as the hotel is in the middle of this and there were signs up in the halls that redecoration was part of an ongoing process!

Quite nice hotel, located right next to the beach, and with good views of the pier and bandstand. Clean and with a distinct vintage feel, but somewhat worn down. The windows are very drafty, the shower does not provide very much water (but the hot water will come eventually, just let it run for a couple of minutes). Ok english breakfast. Wifi only on the ground floor. Would i stay here again? Yes, probably, as the price is reasonably set, and i like the vintage feel of the place. Only during the summer though, i imagine that that the rooms get really cold in the winter, due to the drafty windows.

Just returned from a 2 day break in Eastbourne and had a top time. However our hotel of choice, due to it's hugely discounted price on booking.com at West rock hotel was in desperate need of an update. The en suite was very dated with cracked tiles and a shower that dribbled rather that sprayed. We also had a socket that had fallen off the wall as well. On a more positive note the man who I believed to be the manager on reception was extremely helpful and polite. The hotel is apparently under refurbishment so probably getting round to the other rooms soon. Overall you get what you pay for.

Had a family holiday here and the room was fantastic, the staff excellent and the breakfasts were to die for.
Our room had a lovely sea view with large windows. The bed was soft but we never woke with a back ache. The hotel is only a short walk to the pier and band stand. Parking wasn't an issue as you can buy parking permits for a £1 a day which lets you park outside for the whole day. There was a good mixture of people and age groups.
The restaurant was well priced and the food of a very good standard. The staff where all friendly and nothing was to much trouble.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone for any occasion. Hope this review helps.
