We only stayed one night at the Sheldon, it has its good points and its not so good.
It has a great location on a side road, just off the sea front and has it's own off street parking. Be careful though, there is the narrowest little archway to get through to get to the car park at the back. In a VW Golf with parking sensors we were fine, but any bigger than that and we would've been worried. That said, there was a Range Rover in the carpark so it must be do-able!
The staff are welcoming on arrival & the converted victorian houses are nicely decorated.
Our room looked very much like the ones on the images with a large double bed, huge windows (but don't expect a sea view) and a compact en-suite.
I'm not sure if there had been recent changes to the en-suite as there were some capped off pipes which weren't the prettiest and some awkward/space-saving design features which didn't really work out (especially when you're 6'3").
The negative of the huge windows & high ceilings was that, even with all 3 radiators turned up to the max, the room was chilly when we got back that evening & didn't really warm up before morning. There are additional heaters available if you ask reception, but of course we only read this in the morning.
Also, as in the title, if you're a light sleeper this may no be the place for you. "Knocking" radiator pipes and being able to hear the conversations of other guests in their rooms doesn't make for the best night's sleep if you're easily awoken by unfamiliar noises.
It's not necessarily the cheapest either - we paid £116 for the night. We'd probably feel this was a bit expensive if it wasn't for the included breakfast.
Finally, the breakfast was very good; some nice options of cooked and lighter breakfasts available in a lovely dining room served by the very friendly staff.

Situated a few minutes walk from both promenade and main shops this hotel is in a great location. Lovely breakfast provided by cheerful waitresses, room very clean with luxury bedding and adequate bathroom - all topped off with onsite parking. There really was not anything to dislike.

We spent a night at the Sheldon as we were going to the theatre and thought it would be nice not to have to drive home afterwards
The hotel is situated perfectly for the theatres and is also very close to some good restaurants. The town centre is only a 10 minute walk away
We stayed in the luxury suite which was a very large room at the back of the building with en-suite toilet and a roll top bath and walk in shower in the room. The sheets were brilliant white cotton and the towels thick and fluffy. Plenty of nice toiletries and ample storage if you are only staying a few days. There was even fresh milk in the fridge
The only down side was the lighting in the room which was very dim.
Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and pleasant staff. The sausage and bacon (the bench mark on which we judge all hotels we visit !) were of good quality and very tasty
We would happily use this hotel again

We stayed here for 2 nights x We were in Eastboutne for my Fathers funeral ..everything was lovely and we were made to feel very welcome ..We were in the family room which was a great size for all of us..my wife and I and 2 boys 8 and 4.
My only complaint to be honest was the breakfast x as both mornings the sausage was burnt and the bacon under cooked . That isn't a huge complaint as the cereals and toast yogurts fruit juice and coffee.etc were all lovely..
Once again thankyou and am sure we will come again but hopefully for a happier occasion !!

This is a fantastic hotel. The rooms are beautifully made up with a modern but homely feel. The whole hotel is clean and tidy with a stylish decor. We were upgraded to a family room which was lovely and spacious, and as we were in the lower ground floor we had our own side door entrance which was handy. The car park was also useful, meaning one didn't have to find a space on the streets.
The breakfasts were lovely with a lot of choice, and the staff very friendly and helpful.
The only thing I can think of to improve anything, would be to have a radio or sorts in the dining room to give background ambience, otherwise this hotel is practically perfect in every way!

I booked to stay at the sheldon hotel because Iv stayed once before in a double room, and was happy.this time I thought we are only staying one night so we will book a premier room £110 .what I didn't read was that the bath and shower are in the room,so on arriving and realising this I asked if we could have a room with separate bathroom the young lady was fine if we could wait until she made the bed up.when shown to the new room it was standard with a small bathroom with a cracked sink and mould in the shower unit but still it was short notice ,but then one of the radiators wasn't working I had my jumper on and was cold so I put my dressing coat on,then my partner went and asked for a heater which was given straight away.we are sad because we won't go back there again.

We booked this hotel through Groupon, a steal at £50 for a double room. Dissapointingly little availability and also really disappointed to have not been told it was a budget room beforehand. Would have happily paid an upgrade as it was a much needed treat. All staff were lovely, especially the young man who checked us in. Breakfast too was also lovely. The room above the driveway (29) I think, was tiny but clean and had a nice bathroom and good storage. I couldn't get wifi in the room and did smash my head on the tv twice :( i wouldn't judge the whole hotel based on the budget room so will probably revisit at another time (not through groupon this time)

A very comfortable stay and within walking distance of the theatres and the promenade. This hotel has an excellent parking area at the rear. The beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms refurbished to a high standard.

Last minute single room booking to meet friends in town. What a comfortable, friendly stay. Great location too, and even let me park the day of checkout while I finished my Christmas shopping. Will recommend to others, thank you!

My Husband and I spent 2 nights at The Sheldon the beginning of this week, I would highly recommend this Hotel, we had a double room that was a very Good size, bed was seriously comfy, slept like a log (which I rarely do away from home), Breakfast was very good, and the added bonus of parking really does make this Hotel a real gem. We will definitely be returning as are frequent visitors to Eastbourne to visit family.

We decided to use up some holiday and booked in at The Sheldon. We're so glad we did !! It's a family run business and there is a really nice feel about the place. Staff are friendly, the rooms are clean (and ours was massive) and the beds are to die for !!! Our bed was so comfy, we took photos of the labels to try and get the same mattress for at home - how sad are we ?? The breakfast is brilliant, so much choice and they can't accommodate enough. The fact that breakfast AND parking are included in the price makes it such good value for money. We will certainly book into The Sheldon again if we are ever in Eastbourne. It's close to the shops and the beach is at the end of the road. Can't ask for any more than that !!

Booked for an overnight stay in Eastbourne - Literally, phoned up spoke to the hotel, who confirmed room and would be available on our arrival an hour later. The room was lovely, updated, modern, with home comforts, free wi fi, flat screen tv, tea/coffee facilities etc. The bathroom although small was fine. The breakfast in the morning was superb, so much selection and all in the price of the room. I would definately stay there again. Thank you for fitting us in at short notice.

We went to Eastbourne for a 4 night stay in October and found the Sheldon to be excellent accommodation. On arrival we were up-graded from a Standard to a Superior room - at no extra cost! Incidentally, this was the biggest room we have ever had in any of the hotels we've visited over the years. Very comfortable and well laid-out.
The hotel, which is very close to the town centre, although easy to find if approached from the Prom, has a fair-sized car park although, it must be said, access is a little tight (6ft 2in high, not sure of the width.)
Owner Judith was most hospitable and her staff friendly and efficient. A minor problem with the shower was attended to quickly.
The breakfast - full English - was well presented, piping hot and very tasty. We loved the crockery so much that we've ordered some for ourselves! The only downside was that there wasn't any Worcestershire Sauce to sprinkle on the baked beans!
All-in-all, would we go there again? Definitely. Would we recommend the Sheldon to others? Definitely

Stayed here in October 2014 and whilst the hotel is reasonably ok, the room above the car park drivethrough was a little small and in desperate need of a paint. The walls had crayon over them and the skirting was chipped and badly scuffed. The sink also was cracked badly and the shower over the bath had black mould on the sloped ceiling above you.
However the owners and staff were both pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was lovely and cooked to order and we were very happy with the hotel generally. It also has excellent location with good parking out the back.

I stayed here for 2 nights and a very well managed business. Considering the owners Judith and Greg Brown have only been in charge for some 2 years, they have done wonders getting the high customer service standards, the building is well organised considering its age. Service and the presentation of breakfast was very good, like most recent reviews I would recommend this and will stay again if in the area.
Obviously they cater for families and during my stay only adults were there. They have a large lounge you can use so you do not have to stay in the bedroom if you so wish, plus the free Wi-Fi worked very well in the building

A lovely family run hotel which cannot do enough for you. It is ideally situated some 100 yards from the sea front yet only some 500 yards from the main shopping centre. It also has car parking which is at a premium in this area. The room was very comfortable, clean and roomy. Breakfast was first class, freshly cooked and with a good selection to satisfy most tastes. Our only negative was the lack of pressure when showering, however this didn't detract from a very enjoyable stay.

Stayed on a Saturday night and suitably surprised at how well this place has been prepared. It has the feel of a recent refurbishment with excellent beds, well laid out rooms which are generally easily accessible from the lift. Great breakfast in a lovely room as well. The walls are well soundproofed, despite being full we heard nothing from the other residents. As for Eastbourne itself, pretty boring. The main high street is a combination of pound land shops, charity and dodgy pubs. Not much to commend the area frankly, no wonder the hotel has worked so hard to make it nice just to stay in.

We enjoyed two nights at The Sheldon. It's not far from the sea front, and about a 10-15 minute stroll to the shops, so the location is great.
We loved the spacious room, which was simply but tastefully decorated. The bed was huge and so comfortable. It was two singles put together, so there was loads of room to stretch out. We were pleased to find a kettle and drinks in the room, and the ensuite was immaculately clean, although the shower was a bit small and it was hard to direct the shower head - it was stuck at a bit of a funny angle.
The breakfast was excellent - lots of cold options such as cereal, yoghurt, pastries and fruit - as well as cooked food. Toast was brought straight to the table, and Full English breakfast was provided, as well as a vegetarian option, and pancakes were also offered, which I loved.
The staff were very friendly, and the hotel has a great combination of period features and clean, modern decor. It's also a bonus that there is a car park, though it's quite tight to get in, and we only have a small car!
We would definitely return to the Sheldon if we were staying in Eastbourne again. We felt really relaxed after our stay.

We have just returned from a lovely, relaxing 4 night stay at the Sheldon and can really recommend it.Our room was big, with a very comfy king size bed, and a really big bathroom, we were on the lower ground floor but the room was still light and airy The car park is a real bonus too, although we did have a few nerve wracking moments getting in and out of it with our large car! Breakfast was served in a lovely dining room, there was plenty of choice and everything was cooked perfectly. The Sheldon is nicely decorated and is also in a good, quiet location, only a short walk from the beautiful sea front. The only tiny fault was the outdoor fake pot plants which did look a bit tatty but other than that the hotel is perfect.

We have booked this hotel already in February due to lots of reasons - positive reviews, the short distance to the seafront, own parking space, the photos from their Homepage and much more. We have spent 11 nights in "The Sheldon", it has been perfect and a very happy time for us. The room has been nice decorated with more than enough space and free w-lan, tea and coffee, own small lounge, a nice shower room and it has been very quiet during all the nights. Breakfast has been nice and everybody there did a lot, to make our holidays perfect. We will come back asap. At last, many thanks to the owner Judith, you are the sunshine in your house and you made us feel very welcome, Sigurd + Iris
