Having found this wonderful hotel by chance a year ago - largely because they have an on-site car park - shortly after Greg and Judith took over, there was no question about where we would stay in Eastbourne this time. I was even more impressed when Judith and I spoke on the phone and she clearly remembered us. We were pleased to find that the hotel, and its owners, were just as we remembered them: the welcome was genuine, the room was large and comfortable, the breakfast set us up for the day, and busy people found time for a chat!
We can agree with everything that other people say, with one (very minor) criticism - the shower was a tight fit for me! This was, however, a problem for just a few minutes in the morning.
We will be back.

I spent some nights at the Sheldon last autumn.
Yes, I picked it for the name and the location.
We had a wonderful stay there! The owner family is very smart,
gives you advice about what to do in Eastbourne. The breakfast is big enough,
the hotel rooms as well. I guess we were some of the youngest visitors in Eastbourne, but who cares? ;o)

Absolutely beautiful hotel, rooms are lovely really big and airy. Very clean and very well thought out and tastefully decorated. Owners are lovely, very friendly and welcoming. Really good value, much better than a lot of the bigger hotels. Would definitely stay here again

The owners are lovely and very welcoming and really made us feel at home. Breakfast was cooked to perfection each morning with our needs being anticipated after they knew what we liked, which was a nice touch. We stayed in a budget double room so I can't comment on the regular rooms, but I thought for £56 a night including breakfast it was very good value. The town centre, restaurants and the seafront are right on the doorstep, but we didn't find the location noisy at all. There is a lift to the first and second floors. All in all we were very happy at the Sheldon and will be staying there again.

Loved the welcome, the decor, the location, the breakfast. Clean and tidy. Close to shops, restaurants and the sea front. Free parking was an added bonus. Am recommending to friends and hope to go back.

We stayed at the Sheldon hotel from 29th Dec 2013 until 2nd Jan 2014. We stayed in Room 34 on the ground floor. It was a large family room with a bath and shower which is always nice. The room was very clean and bright and airy with a large bay window facing the car park but it was very quiet. The location was excellent for the town or seafront. Greg, Judith and Jordan were very friendly. Greg cooked a lovey breakfast, it was first class. Would stay here again if we were in Eastbourne

Duncurin and family travelled down to Eastbourne to look in on an elderly mother-in-law for a few days over Christmas; we were a little worried about our ‘Turkey-and-tinsel’ break on the sea-front. As it turned out the Sheldon was a perfect choice with enthusiastic, energetic and hard-working hosts who did everything to make us welcome, comfortable and also cooked wonderful breakfasts to enable us to spend our days with my wife’s mum.
We’d booked two of the superior rooms, which are clean, bright and very spacious. Most notably our super bed was one that was both comfortable and large enough to ensure restful nights. Our girls, too, had a spacious comfortable room with twin beds; the large amount of space and the bright, restful lounge – all with free, unrestricted Wi-fi access allowed them to get on with their University work.
The owners of the hotel are attentive and friendly at all times, have a strong work ethic and deserve to do well. Although our main motive in travelling was to make sure that ‘granny’ wasn’t on her own – this wonderful hotel was a simply perfect choice to support and encourage us to do precisely that.
One tiny note, the large car park at the rear has a fairly low entrance and my little car complete with roof box just managed to scrape under with millimetres to spare; so, if you have a large car/roof box it would be better to park on the road.

We originally chose this hotel as being close to the town centre as possible and with a car park.
I must admit, the Sheldon exceeded our expectations. The room was very large with storage space galore no having to trip over suitcase.
The owners were the friendliest of people, only to pleased to give advice as to places to visit etc.
Although knowing Eastbourne quite well we were directed to some new places.
For a touch of luxury at the price of a two star this is the place to stay.

We stayed for three nights of luxury accommodation at the family run Sheldon Hotel. The free off street parking and warm welcome ensured that our stay started off in the best possible way.
The room was spacious, well laid out and spotless. The bed was very comfortable and the roll top bath a treat. Each morning we had a choice of cooked or continental breakfasts that were spot on.
The staff were cheery and very helpful when we asked questions about the local pubs and restaurants that were all close to hand. Being so close to the sea front (2 min walk) meant we did not need to drive to enjoy our stay.
All in all the hotel is a real find and one we will definitely return to. Highly recommended!

I only had the pleasure of staying at the Sheldon Hotel for one night (11th Nov) and I was given a single room complete with a spotlessly clean en-suite. There was a small seating area to relax and enjoy a cuppa from the well stocked beverage tray. Breakfast, which was made from good quality produce, was served in a light and well dressed dining room. I found the hosts to be very receptive, warm and welcoming and one can tell that the well being of their guests are very important to them. I would have like to stayed longer but due to a tight travel schedule I could not. In saying that, if and when I happen to be in Eastbourne again, I shall seek out a room at this establishment where I felt quite relaxed and comfortable and looked after.

The Sheldon is a couple of minutes walk to the seaside and shops. The room we had was very nice at the front of the hotel. Very clean and spacious. Breakfast was nice. There is parking at the back which is a real asset. Very narrow entrance but we have a big car and managed to squeeze it through ! Recommended.

We stayed at the Sheldon for 2 nights on a quick getaway. We were given a room at the front with bay window on first floor. Absolutely spotless and very comfortable. The staff were most welcoming and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel is ideally situated in a quiet road a very short walk from the promenade and the town centre, and there is plenty of parking at the rear which in this area is a great asset. We had a small but effective bathroom with a walk in shower which was excellent, very clean warm white towels. All in all it was just right and great value we will go back. There are a number of excellent restaurants within 200 yards and would highly recommend Martins.

I really enjoyed my 2 night stay at this hotel to attend a conference. The owners were very welcoming and friendly throughout our stay, as were the staff serving breakfast. I stayed in the budget double, which was small but had everything you would need. The room and the hotel in general was very clean and well looked after; the décor was modern and appealing; and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, with a wide choice to suit all tastes as well as catering for specific dietary needs (one of our party required a gluten free diet). Thank you for a lovely weekend!

We found the Sheldon easy to find, free parking and a lovely room. Very clean, helpful staff and great surroundings. A very pleasant stay for two nights. Comfortable beds, good TV. Small bathroom but very nice. Free tea and coffee and the breakfast was good, they also cater for vegans.

Booked as a last minute break, opted for the 'suite', warm greeting on arrival from the lovely chap on reception who offered to carry our bags to the room. The decor throughout the hotel is fresh and contemporary, the room itself is very spacious with a free standing bath and a shower within the room itself,a super king size bed and separate toilet and basin. All good until we realised that the toilet hadn't been flushed and the bathroom bin emptied since the last guests. Then had to check round to make sure everything else was ok. The hotel do provide a hair dryer but it is nowhere near the mirror, also a good selection of teas/coffees, cakes and biscuits and fresh milk in a little, fridge, all nice touches. A word with reception soon had the bathroom issue it sorted out and a small refund on checking out but not really what you should expect at £105 per night. It didn't spoil our enjoyment of the room, the bed is extremely comfortable and car parking on site a great asset. Breakfast was excellent but only served 8am to 930am which, for a Sunday morning, could have been a bit later to enable a lie in but with checkout being by 1030 maybe this isn't possible. Perhaps,a later checkout on a Sunday ?
Would I recommend the hotel - yes definitely, would we stay there again if visiting Eastbourne - yes would certainly consider it

Having visited in April, I booked a longer stay in the Superior suite (Room 15) as a long weekend break for my wife and I.
The room is fantastic, and the roll top bath is great to unwind in after a day out and about, the bed is massive and probably the most comfy bed I have ever come across in a hotel!
Fresh fruit and bottles of water and fresh orange provided, also fluffy towels and good selection of tea, coffee, and hot chocolate provided!
Room and the rest of the hotel, spotless.
Free car park, it is near impossible to find free parking in Eastbourne, this is a massive bonus!
Free WiFi, and hearty breakfast provided.
Owners go the extra mile to see that you have a good stay with them, nothing appears to be too much trouble!
Will be back!

Booked a one night stay in for a short trip to Eastbourne. The hotel has it's own car park behind the hotel which was very convenient. Our room was spacious and clean (toilet and shower), we even had a 2 seater sofa and chair in the room. Breakfast was very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would go again if in the area. No restaurant in hotel but there are so many restaurants within walking distance of the hotel it doesn't matter. Only short walk to seafront, pier and shops.

Booked a one night stay for a quick wedding anniversary escape. Nice place, no frills. Room was spacious and lovely - superior double (room 28), on 2nd floor with king sized bed, small dressing room, tea and coffee, nice toiletries, very comfortable bed with good linen. All recently decorated. Nice bathroom. Room overlooked the road, was very quiet (apart from seagulls !). Good tv with large range of channels. Breakfast was fine - pretty standard, with buffet cereal, fruit (plus slightly sad-looking huge bowl of tinned fruit), juice, pastries and yoghurt, with a perfectly nice full english cooked to order. Location is excellent - quiet but central, pier less than 5 mins away, along with several decent restaurants. Attentive owners throughout booking process. Would happily stay here again.

We stayed here in a superior double room last weekend. We have stayed in many of the sea front hotels in Eastbourne and the Sheldon is well worth a visit. A small free car park helps as the sea front hotels do not offer this and parking can be xpensive. The room we stayed in was large and comfortable with a good quality TV. Bed was extremely comfortable and there was room for a 2 seater settee and chair. The bathroom was large with a separate shower and bath. Breakfast was very nice in a pleasant room. There is no bar in the hotel but there are ample pubs/bars and restaurants within 5 mins walk. My wife said she would certainly stay here again in preference to most of the seafront hotels and i agree.

We spent a two night stay at The Sheldon. It is in an excellent location two minutes walk from the seafront. There are several restaurants within 5 to 10 minutes walk. We had booked a Superior Double room. We were surprised that as we had gone for a higher quality room it was in the basement with a view of the car park. The room was very spacious with plenty of drawer and cupboard space. However, it lacked character and needed more colour on the walls. A large modern bathroom. Breakfast room was very modern and well equipped. We both enjoyed the breakfast which was served very quickly. Good value place to stay.

Spotlessly clean throughout. Lovely big airy room with very comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast. Excellent warm and friendly service. Private free car park. 5 minute walk to the bottom of the road to the sea 5 minutes to restaurants and 15 minutes to town centre. I took my elderly mum for a 2 night break and we both thoroughly enjoyed the stay. only problem for my mum was the steps leading up to the front door which she found a bit hard and had to hold my arm.
Someone less mobile may struggle. Once inside there is a lift. Not a hotel if you want evening entertainment but perfect for a quiet break.

The Sheldon is a very nice B & B. Ideal location 5-10 minutes away from city centre or beach front. The room was clean, neat and tidy. Serviced every day. On site parking is a big bonus. A very good selection of food for breakfast, cooked well and served quickly. My only concern was that there was no bar. Although it was not far to the nearest watering hole it would have been nice just to pop downstairs for a drink or two. All in all a good place to be.

Having stayed in this hotel for our 14 night summer holidays for the last four years. We arrived in the middle of July for this years stay. We knew the hotel had been taken over ate last year, so obviously were a bit apprehensive as to what to expect as the hotel was going downhill slightly under the previous owners. We were absolutely worried about nothing and have just arrived home from a wonderful relaxing stay. We stayed in the luxury suite (room 15) and received nothing but perfect service from Judith and Sarah (not forgetting the guys in the background). All of the team give a very personal and friendly professional service and we wish them all every success for the future. This hotel is the only hotel we would recommend in Eastbourne and we have stayed in many over the years, next years stay is already booked!
