A friend and I went to Eastbourne for some golf. Found this Hotel online, phoned to book and was very impressed by the co-owner Judith. She was very polite and I was immediately at ease with her. We were checked in by her son. Who, contrary to another review, was courteous and also very polite and easy to understand. I will assume the complaining guest is simply rude, perhaps a little deaf and the unfortunate posessor of racially prejudiced views. My room was 27, a single with en suite, and perfectly adequate. Clean, tidy, fresh smelling with all necessary amenities as standard. The bed was beautifully comfortable and the hotel quiet even though fully booked. Breakfast was delicious. The dining room is beautifully presented and staff were unobtrusive and quietly efficient. Generally speaking you tend to get what you pay for but in this case my overall impression was tremendous value for money. Such was the professionally excellent manner of our treatment and the truly genuine, personable, friendly and can't do enough for our guests attitude of both Judith and Greg, it pains me to say, from a purely constructive view point, a couple of extra sticks of complimentary coffee in the rooms might not be a bad thing. Big smiles and thankyou Judith. You are a wonderful host and when we decide to return we will call you first and recommend your hotel to our friends. Rob and Colin from Dover. XX

Stayed here while attending the tennis at Devonshire Park, and the location is perfect as it is just a few minutes walk to the tennis club - and a huge bonus is the free on site parking.
All the staff were welcoming helpful and friendly, the room was a good size with a comfortable bed and nice en suite. Breakfast presented a good choice - so The Sheldon is everything you could want from a seaside B&B. Thoroughly recommended.

I first discovered this little gem in Eastbourne last year. I decided to revisit it again this year. I was not disappointed. Once again I was genuinely welcomed by Judith and Greg the owners. My room was a delight, with a comfortable bed, great en suite, and a sea view!
Breakfasts were absolute feasts with so much to choose from. They certainly set you up for the day.
The hotel itself was spotlessly clean, and there was a lift which was great for getting my luggage up to my room.
The location of the hotel is perfect. Close to the beach, town, and railway station, it is less than a 5 minute walk to a large selection of restaurants.
Any negatives? No, The Sheldon Eastbourne does not have any negatives. It is the perfect place to stay in Eastbourne. I would not consider anywhere else. I shall return!

I am currently staying in Eastbourne having bought a local business. I'm looking at renting a flat long term but after a great nights stay at The Sheldon, I think I just may stay here a few more times yet. I checked in quite late, having rang prior to say that I would be late, and the lady who took my message was really pleasant and reassuring. When I arrived at the hotel I was welcomed by a lovely young lad, who was very welcoming and helpful, showing me where everything was on my way to the room.
The room was very spacious, spotlessly clean with really fresh and crisp decor, that was just right. The room had a little chair and sea view, and it felt very homely. Morning brought a lovely breakfast and the by now different staff were so friendly and made it a really nice start to the day.
Well done to all involved and I will be back with the tribe next time! Thank you for reassuring me that quality at a reasonable price is alive and well!

Really well situated - a 5 minute walk from the train station and right by the seafront. A very comfortable, pleasant room with everything I needed, including WiFi. Peaceful, really good value overall and lovely breakfasts. The Sheldon is run by a very helpful and friendly couple, and I'm glad I chose it for my break. I would be happy to stay here again! Thank you for everything.

Stayed at The Sheldon for two nights in a single room, great location in walking distance of shops and the pier.
It was a nice size room with everything you need; complimentary toiletries along with tea/coffee making facilities etc. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, serving a really good breakfast! The free WIFI and parking was a plus too!
Would definitely stay again - thank you! :)

The Sheldon really lives up to the fantastic reviews on tripadvisor. We stayed midweek for 3 nights on a special deal in the suite,on the `1st floor, lift if needed. We received a very warm welcome from Judith,a very lovely lady/owner. We were shown to our room, and WOW ,what a room. Very large with huge bay window, king bed, rolltop bath, large walk in shower, with bag of toiletries, soaps gel shampoo, etc.
There was a basket fruit, biscuits, tea/coffee/chocolate etc. A fridge with orange juice, jug milk, bottled water, and easter mallow nest chocolate, a lovely touch. This is replaced daily if needed. Dressing gowns, slippers, and so quite and peaceful. Free car parking for all rooms, which is a bonus in Eastbourne.
The hotel is absolutely spotless, decoration is lovely,no chips or marks on walls, which does happen even in our own homes. The breakfast room was large and bright, with beautiful laid tables. Cooked breakie was lovely, served with a smile from their hard working staff. If you don't fancy cooked, there is everything you can think of on the breakfast table.
What a hotel, nothing, and I mean nothing, was too much trouble for Judith or greg.
It was a real pleasure to stay here and to meet a lovely hard working couple,we will return.
This is the GRAND of eastbourne.....
Regards...Jo & David

A highly impressive hotel almost on the sea front which deserves the accolades.
The room we stayed in was a superior suite, which was huge, with a roll top bath and walk in shower in the room which we though was great but possibly not ideal if you are on the shy side.
Breakfast was just about perfect with excellent service. Nothing seemed too much trouble and we would make a point of staying again.
Dined in a local Italian restaurant which was recommended by the hotel owners and even got a discount. The on site car park is a bonus which I always look for.

We had friends visiting for a few days and booked them into The Sheldon. What a great find with a car park. The superior double room was beautiful and the owners Judith and Greg could not have been more welcoming to our friends. The whole hotel seemed spotless and very well decorated. Breakfast which we joined our friends for was excellent. Can be recommended totally.

This is a real gem, I have stayed several times and always had a warm welcome. Several friends and family members have also stayed and each one intends to return. Rooms are spotless and comfortable, breakfast is individually cooked, the car park is a real bonus whilst the location, in a quiet road 2 minutes from the seafront could not be better. However what really makes the Sheldon special is the care and commitment of the owners who do everything possible to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of their guests. An excellent choice for a stay in Eastbourne.

Excellent hotel . Lovely room. Crisp white bedding . Soft white towels . Lovely and warm rooms. Tea and coffee refreshed every day . Rooms are a lovely size with TV and two seater sofa plus table and chairs. We found this ideal in the evening to chill out and relax after our evening meal . The breakfast was wonderful , set us up for the day . Plenty of choice and nothing was too much trouble if you wanted to change it around a bit. You are looked after very we'll . The rooms have a comprehensive guide to Eastbourne which we found very useful . It's ideally situated too , only two minutes walk from the nearest restaurant and five mins from a wetherspoons pub and the town centre . Just to finish on a big tick in the box for The Sheldon is its own car park behind the hotel . Invaluable . Can't speak highly enough of the Sheldon . Will hopefully be returning in the near future.

We have choosen this place as a stopover hotel traveling from Calais to South West England.
The location is perfect, in the centre with good and secure parkingspace for FREE ! at the rear of the hotel.
You can easily walk to restaurants and to the pier and the sea.
They gave us good restaurant tips. We finally ate at Solo Pasta - that was "perfetto"
Our room was very spacious but a little outdated. Curtains were torn, the sofa broke. We had a room in the basement at the back of the hotel, so it was very quit at night. Maybe this room was not yet re-done.
Breakfast was ok and enough for a morningstart but not 4-star hotel worthy.
All in All it is a very good choice to stay at the Sheldon. Price/quality is good.
And Eastbourne is so much nicer than for example brighton. Specialy the pier is so beautiful.

My husband and I selected the Sheldon Hotel based upon the locality and the favourable feedback left on Tripadvisor.
I booked through Laterooms, which I highly recommend other users never to do so!!!!! However I would recommend to book directly with the hotel. The level of service the family run Sheldon offers far exceeds that of any booking agents!
Upon contacting The Sheldon directly I was greeted by a most kind lady who's smile emanated via her voice ;) she booked my husband and I into the suite. I mentioned that we were driving a large vehicle and I was a little worried about whether it would pass through the carpark entrance (as I had noted by reading other reviews that it may be a right squeeze to enter although the carpark itself was more than ample) absolutely no fuss was made and she acknowledged my concern and I was offered a space located at the front of the hotel (how lovely was that!!!!)
Upon arrival we were greeted by a well presented scholar who, once again, was of genuine kindness and upmost of professionalism. What a brilliant skill to have (one of hospitality) prior to leaving secondary schooling years. He will go far in life :)). We were booked in, we were offered for our cases to be carried however we were ok to carry them (a little touch like this goes a long way if we were unable to carry our luggage) and we were shown to our beautifully decorated and immaculate Suite (room 15).
The suite had a comfortable sofa located in a wonderfully large bay window. A double shower cubicle and large roll top bath were located in the room along with complimentary slippers and wonderfully soft bath robes as well as indulgent shampoos and soaps. An ensuite loo with sink was hidden in a large bright and clean cupboard.
A mini fridge containing bottled waters and orange juice was a real joy to have along with cakes and section of biscuits, fruits, coffees, teas and hot chocolates also. Something for every mood :)
The bed was HUGE clean pressed bedding and was so incredibly comfortable I could have slept for ever. Like sleeping on a nice fluffy cloud!
Breakfast was perfect!!!! A wonderful selection of cereals, fruits, yoghurt, breads and fresh juices and that's just to tickle your taste buds prior to tucking into a perfect portion sized cooked English, yum yum.
Once again the hospitality goes over and beyond that of what I have ever experienced anywhere!!!
Te morning smiles and genuine interest that the family run Sheldon exudes is absolutely spot on.
All in all ....... I cannot fault anything, apologies for no constructive feedback ;) all I can say is "keep up the brilliant work"
Sending thank you's on mass you truly did make out two night mini break away an experience to look forward to once again. Can't wait to come back and say hello to you all again :)))

My wife and I stayed for three nights at the Sheldon Hotel, we chose to stay here due to the excellent reviews given by others. It was my wifes birthday so I chose to stay in the 'Suite' (Room 15) which includes a King size bed, a bath and shower, a settee and fridge plus en-suite toilet.
The room was lovely, very large and airy with very high ceilings. Good selection of coffee / tea provided along with a kettle, milk waiting in the fridge along with water and fresh orange juice. An excellent assortment of shampoo / body lotion / shower gel also provided, along with lots of clean towels and also dressing gowns + slippers. Very high quality all round.
The settee was very comfortable and, being next to the window, a great place to sit and read. The TV worked fine, normal selection of digital channels available. The hotel itself is about 200 metres from the main road by the beach but this made it extremely quiet in the evenings and throughout the night, no noise from late night 'revellers'. The parking at the back is through a very narrow entrance but had plenty of space for everyones car and is very convenient. All in all, no complaints.
I must remark on the fact that I had mentioned in the booking that it was my wifes birthday and we were pleasantly surprised to come back to our room on the 'big day' and find a lovely bunch of flowers just waiting for her! A very nice touch and much appreciated.
All in all, no complaints. Breakfast was very good, great selection of cereal / croissant / juices, etc., plus an individually cooked breakfast. Room was always clean and everything topped up on a regular basis (including some lovely little cakes!) If you are looking for a nice, clean and peaceful place to stay in Eastbourne, with good wi-fi and near the beach but away from the noise of the seafront, stay here.

Just spent one night at The Sheldon. Very easy place to stay. I had to leave at 5am in morning for a photoshoot and then returned in time for check out at 10.30am. Easy in, easy out. Just stayed in a single room which was fine for the few hours I was in there. I would like to try it again, next time in a double. Looking at other reviews, this is a favourable place to stay. I have stayed once before in Eastbourne and it was a disaster - old people's hotel which was grim with a capital G. So thank God or similar for The Sheldon!
