We stayed for two nights at the weekend. Had a very warm welcome where our car and luggage was taken care of. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much. Brilliant breakfast when ordered direct from the menu. I liked the character of the hotel with its great location on the coast. Short walk to the pier and town shops. They do have WiFi but in our room on the third floor it was very weak. We would have liked to have air conditioning in the room but fans were provided.

Careful of the indoor pool, steps slippery and I hurt my back when my footing slipped. No one there to help. Now suffering. Would not have paid for this experience. Lucky it was a gift! Also shower difficult to define what lotion was what I'm the Ladies as unlabelled.

Our recent stay at The Grand was simply a delightful experience. From the fabulous ground floor room with doors leading onto the terrace and outdoor pool, to the elegant luxury of the Garden Restaurant, and the concern and care on the part of the Head Waiter, Mr Sousa, in relation to my elderly mother, our time at The Grand was perfect!

We have just returned from a 3 day stay at the hotel with our family. This is the second year we have been there as our grandchildren like the hotel and especially the outside pool.

This hotel is the only 5 star hotel in Eastbourne but you cannot compare this hotel to other 5 star hotels.

Firstly, the hotel is in a time warp, it does not have air conditioning, the phone signal is useless and the free wifi will just about send an email after a few minutes. However, what it does have is staff who care about their guests and to find that today is a real treat. From the moment you arrive, the doormen to receptionists, restaurant and bar staff and housekeeping all care about the guests.

My only gripe is the area around the outside pool. First of all, all the furniture needs to be put on a skip and the hotel needs to buy new sun loungers with proper sun bed cushions. Also the furniture on the terrace needs to be replaced or at least renovated.

Apart from that, its a hotel with a great piece of history!

We are very fond of the Grand and had our summer holiday there from 17-24 July 2018. Our only niggle would be that a young woman turned up to breakfast one morning in her dressing gown in spite of a notice saying

A wedding cake of a hotel on a grand scale. Lacks sone modern conveniences like air conditioning but a nice old fashioned atmosphere and a friendly and helpful staff

We couldn’t have been made more welcome. Greeted by a wonderful concierge team, taken to our interconnecting rooms and told about the hotel on our way. We had breakfast and two of our evening meals in the Garden Restaurant. The food was lovely and made all that more special by everyone calling us by name each time. We only mentioned that our granddaughter was vegetarian and that was remembered and passed to The Mirabelle where we ate the final night. Superb food and again, outstanding service.
Loved everything about this stay and will definitely come again.

We came to spread our parents ashes locally and my brother and I stayed at the Hotel. It is a lovely Hotel and the staff and facilities were lovely. A bit disappointed with the menu choices in the Garden Restaurant and the heat in there for dinner was unbearably hot but otherwise I would return. Using the outside pool was wonderful.

We had a very enjoyable stay at The Grand, very comfortable bed, great shower and spacious room. The only thing that could be improved was the aircon, there wasn't any. There was a fan, but it wasn't great, Lovely room though and beautiful hotel with great staff.

Our second stay this year. We had a sea view suite with a balcony and the weather to go with it. Lovely room. Our first trip to Mirabelle since it has been refurbished and it didn't disappoint! I so love this hotel!

We were unable to book parking so when we arrived we were given a free permit.
When I returned to the car on that Sunday I had a parking ticket. I told the doorman who said " I did tell you that it was only valid until 11am Sunday. Another doorman intervened and said words to the efect of " I heard him tell you"
I found this comment rude and quite outrageous-- more or less accusing me of lying when I had said I did not hear that. The manager responded to my objection to the ticket yet one would think some reimbursement would be due. No help was given. Our case was simply dismissed. 2 star rating for this. That is NOT 5 star treatment. The hotel and other staff were 5 star.

Very discreet signage on road entrance. Parking space reserved, excellent concierge service provided. Check in was very smooth, very friendly staff. Our room 136 was fine apart from curtains not been able to close fully and no fridge in the room. They stated that they would bring a small fridge up but this didn't materialise. Breakfast was good but continental chose was poor no tomato or cucumber. We did not eat in the hotel as their are some very good restaurants in Eastbourne, Greek, Italian and Indian.

I came here with my daughter for two nights. We were immediately made to feel welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were very polite and helpful and the young waiters and waitresses were a joy. Nothing was too much trouble.

Had a fantastic mini break away. From start to finish the service was superb. Will definitely come back again. The spa treatment was excellent. And the break was well needed, had a relaxing time. Lives up to its 5* rating

Another glorious stay at the grand, facilities and staff are really good.
If you haven't tried the sea facing suits, you have missed the full experience.
I personally find the beds too soft but that is my preference.

We having been coming to The Grand for years. We are not old! The majority of staff are like friends now and those young waiters in the dining room need to be cut some slack when a full hotel turns up for breakfast at 9.30pm.

Please don’t change her into a boutique hotel. She is elegant, some rooms are slightly faded, but she is from a time gone by that most of us yearn for. Viva La Grand!

For those who do complain, I suggest they stay at the Britannia Hotel chain’s 4* Cavendish some 500 yards away where our friends stayed because The Grand was full - read their Trip Advisor Reviews - they will soon be running back down the Promenade begging to be let into this beautiful icon.

Best in Eastbourne service and location. Rooms fine, lounges good, friendly staff. Food so and so room for improvement evening meals. Always surprised how the kitchen can « ruin» main course as the rest is fine.

We have just had a night's stay for my fiancé's birthday, this was our second time here. Again the service was faultless. Check in is 3pm but we arrived at midday and could use the pool facilities, lovely warm outdoor pool, sadly other guests left belongings on sunloungers and were gone at least 2hrs before returning meaning other guests had nowhere to sit. The lifeguard kindly gave us 2 Sun hairs from a store but other guests were on their towels sitting on the floor.
At 3pm we went to get our keys but our room wasn't ready so we were given complimentary drinks & snacks in the bar whilst we waited.
The doorman brought us our keys once ready and we went to our room - large, clean and with a side sea view, it was fabulous.
We had reservations for dinner in The Garden restaurant and went for drinks first in the bar, to be fair it was busy but on our last stay there a barman came & took our drinks order. This time after waiting 10-15mins I went and asked if we could order drinks & was told someone would come to us. After arriving at 7pm we got our drinks at 7.30pm which was a little long to wait.
We went into dinner and whilst the service was fantastic, the food wasn't as good as before. The vegetarian bhaji's tasted lovely but had been overlooked, I had roast chicken and the 3 roast potatoes were very overcooked and on hindsight I should have sent them back.
However breakfast today was outstanding.
All in all, we had a great stay, but the food wasn't as good as before and the actions of some of the guests at the pool made it unfair on other guests wishing to use the loungers.

My partner and I arrived for a two night weekend stay and were given room #242. We did not realise however that this was situated directly above two large air handling extracts and within close proximity of a prep room for room service, given the hot weather we left the windows open and had to listen to the clatter of cutlery and plates as well as the hum from the air handling extracts. We did not pay for a sea view room but even so we would not have expected to listen to this noise in a 5 star hotel. On reporting this noise to reception we were simply told that we could pay a further fee / night to upgrade our room. We were both left a little frustrated and disappointed at this and instead of a response to staff we will simply not be visiting this hotel again.
