Absolutely beautifully cooked and served food. The chef at our hotel near the bandstand should come here for lessons in cooking!

We had our Christmas works party here on the 8th. It was the best party we’ve had for years. Becci Emma and Olly did an amazing job at looking after us (sorry about the glasses).
It’s really made our year. Thank you from DGH A&E staff

We are regulars in the Crown and Anchor but have never eaten in there before, we have seen food being brought out to tables and it looked very nice, hence why we booked a family get together meal just before Christmas. Starters were all lovely, Halloumi fries, loaded nachos and garlic mushrooms. The mains were very mixed in quality, when ordering i went for the lamb shank, i asked the waitress if i could swap the roast potatoes for rice (rice was a dish on the menu with the chilli), i was told very politely that the chef wont allow menu options to be swapped, added or altered; i found this to be very strange, at all other restaurants chefs have been very accommodating and go out of their way to make the diner's experience a good one; can i suggest to the Management / owners, that your chef is more flexible and prepared to accommodate the customer's requests. Lamb Shank meals were delicious with a great selection of perfectly cooked vegetables, the Steak and Ale pie was lovely as was the home made mac n cheese. One of our meals was forgotten and wasn't brought out with all other meals, so we were eating a different times, when the meal of sausage and mash was brought out, the gravy tasted awful, because they had forgotten the meal, they then rushed to prepare it and in their haste they did not mix the flour into the gravy properly and it tasted like brown floury slop, this meal was then not eaten, the burgers were very very dry and unappetising.
I appreciate restaurants sometimes get it wrong, they couldn't blame it on being busy we were the only table eating. I asked to speak to the manager, and was very polite about the good points and also the not so good points, his response was excellent, took the cost of the meals off the bill and gave us free desserts. Mistakes happen, restaurants / chefs dont always get it right , what makes it right for me, is the way that the issue is dealt with afterwards, the Manager was spot on, polite, professional and listened. Well done to the manager and thank you. We will return for another meal in the near future.

Very disappointed with the Sunday roast. No stuffing, parsnips, soggy sprouts, 4 small reheated potatoes. Another friend had the blue cheese burger meat very dry! Over all very disappointed as had friends down.

A good pub with a really fun live band. Unfortunately the food was average and the portions were quite small. The staff were nice though.

Popped in for a quick Sunday roast yesterday evening. Couldn’t have been better! The pub was buzzing for a cold Sunday night, service from the team was great, attentive and relaxed.
Roast was great, beef was perfectly cooked, huge yorkie and lovely beef gravy. Washed down with a great pint of winter warmer! Will be seeing you soon C&A

Visited the pub after doing a fair amount of local research as to finding a good place for a Sunday roast, and somewhere that I hadn’t been before. Ordered the roast beef, (no combo meat offered). When it came to the table it looked about as lifeless as the student girl that delivered it. The beef looked like literally like roadkill and tasted as dry and over cooked as it appeared. I sent it back as I simply could not eat it. The assistant manager came and gave great customer service and apologized profusely for the beef which he agreed looked dry and awful. How could this have been allowed to have left the kitchen I wondered. I was told that the beef is cooked in the morning and then served all day. Yep, tasted like that too!
Another member of staff said that someone else had asked for the meat well done. Yes, I get it, we all like our meat cooked in a different way, but that is why a place like this needs more temp options for customers. Hard tasteless meat cooked hours before with NO Yorkshire pudding is certainly not what the average Sunday roast customer is looking for. I was brought another version out but it was almost as bad. as the joint of beef had been simply way overlooked even for the average taste.A chef/staff issue?, maybe. I would go back to The Pilot or The Lamb pub next time.

Great good, nachos with a good layer of toppings. Lamb shank main, in an amazing gravy. The brilliant selection of veggies were let down by limp broccoli which was overcooked. Would that stop me visiting again, not a chance great food, fantastic staff service. Almost five star, almost… 4.6.
