Having completed the final leg of the South Downs Way, a party of 13 descended on the Crown and Anchor for a pre-booked lunch. What a superb gem on the seafront to the North West of the pier. We were met by friendly and helpful staff who served us with a welcoming drink. We had a variety of absolutely delicious main courses ranging from turkey pie, to chilli con carne, liver, scampi, fish and chips, lamb shank, lasagne and a couple of other dishes at the end of the table which I couldn't quite see. All were served piping hot and with very good presentation. The desserts were good wholesome pub ones. The jam sponge with cream was a great hit, as was the chocolate fudge cake with choc sauce. We can thoroughly recommend this excellent pub with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, serving value for money food.

Went on a wet Sunday night for dinner, as had heard some very good things about the food here, and we were not disappointed.
Huge portions, great quality and fairly reasonable priced too.Waitress was very pleasant, as was the chef who bought us our meals.
Most of us had roast beef and roast chicken, all beautifully presented and had all the trimmings.Would definitely go again.
We left before the karaoke started around 8.30pm (not our thing) and the only negative point was the strong smell of bleach when we walked into the bar. It was so strong we thought we may not be able to stay but eventually it seemed to go. Lovely pub, lovely food and great atmosphere.

This pub serves up some of the best food we have had in along time you really need to be hungry to get through the portions they are huge.

We popped into the Crown and Anchor for lunch in a recent visit to Eastbourne. It was friendly and welcoming, and easy to settle down into to while a couple of hours away. The ales were excellent, and I especially commend the Hogs Back T.E.A. that they had along with a number of well-kept guest ales. Food was very nice. The ‘Homemade Traditional English Pie of the Day’ was Turkey and Ham and served with an amazing selection of vegetables and roast potatoes. It was like having a roast dinner! All in all, very good and we wouldn’t hesitate to visit again.

After drinking in this great pub on many occasion we finally got to have our first meal here, we had an early evening meal.
As always the service was very good, food arrived very hot, I had the crispy pork which I had with chips and veg, I had no complaints it was all cooked to perfection and very tasty, on the other hand my wife went for a cheese burger, now the menu states that the chef makes this from fresh, I must say it did not look like it and looked very much like a standard formed burger,
We would eat in here again but would not have a burger which just did not hit the spot
The beer, wine and service is always good in here and the bands add to a great weekend night out.
From what this pub used to be like it has certainly improved for the better and is a great venue

Went here for an evening meal while staying in Eastbourne. Welcomed on entry by a member of staff and nothing was too much trouble - given a taster of real ale to check it was to my liking. Menu was extensive and we both enjoyed our meals very much - they were very good value and the vegetables were cooked to perfection (for my taste - not over cooked!). Ale was well kept and a good choice - may have been lucky as they had a choice of 6 from the barrel - as just before the beer festival. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Although part of pub chain this Pub offers far more than others I have experienced in the group. Well done to the Crown and Anchor staff who strive to make it like the "local" and where you are a person and not just another number! You deserve to be supported!
Would recommend if you want good food and drink at a reasonable price!

We were staying at a nearby hotel, York House(separate review) and arrived late around 2:30 pm and this was only pub open for food and drink. We are from USA and wanted our first pub meal. But what a surprise with the tasty food they serve. Obviously, they have fish & chips but I had the lamb shank and it was great. My husband had the fish and chips and the chips portion is so huge so I got shard that too.
I have to add a great beer selection too. It was too cold so could not enjoy outdoor tables.

We were looking for somewhere to have a meal, and turned off the seafront to find this little gem tucked away. It looks a little like an old 'spit-and-sawdust' pub, but don't let the otside put you off. There was a very good, simple enu, and the food was very tasty indeed. My wife's half chicken with salad defeated her, as there was just so much meat! I had the homemade lasagne, with garlic bread, and it was very good indeed, and really did taste home made.
There are quite a few guest cask beers available. The hosts were totally polite and courteous, and were friendly with locals and tourists (like us) alike. All in all this was a wonderful meal in a surprising place.

Spent a weekend in nearby B&B (The New England b&b - see separate review) and had lunch in this pub. The food was probably the best pub food I have had in a long time (should be classed as restaurant food), and very reasonably priced. All the staff were polite and although in the evening it was packed as it coincided with the annual torchlight procession and firework display my husband was served without having to wait. Also had a live group in the evening. Very good atmosphere with plenty of cask ales. We enjoyed the food so much that we went back for lunch the next day. Would not hesitate to recommend.

A nice pub, right on the seafront, with friendly staff. You can sit outside and watch the world go by. Food is very good standard.

Poped in for lunch thinking we would get typical pub grub. Well how wrong could we have been. food was home made, amazing. just was blown away at the friendly service as well as the amazing food. Just could not praise them enough. Certainly will be back when in that part of the country. Thank you so much to all the staff.

We were staying across the road from the Crown and Anchor so called in each day. We had a shared platter with drinks on the first day and returned for dinner the next night. The staff were very friendly and the food was superb, much better than the usual pub fare. It was too cold to sit outside but many people did so.

The lamb shank was SO tender and the Ale gravy delicious. Coupled with a great selection of veg and crispy roast potatoes. One of the best Sunday roasts I've ever had. I am stuffed ! Thankyou.

My wife and I WENT to Eastbourne to see her aunt's retrospective
exhibition at the Towner gallery and stayed two nights on the 8th and9th of Sept at the Shore View. We WENT into the Crown and Anchor both
nights for a few drinks and supper and really enjoyed both visits, being greatly impressed with the very friendly and efficient service,
good beer and good food.Heaven knows when we'll ever get back to Eastbourne but we will
certainly recommend the Crown and Anchor to any friends who might be visiting the town

Pleasant Greene King pub on the seafront. Nice atmosphere and the food looked good but we 'met' the nutter in the rear patio so didn't stay. He's probably not a fixture so don't be put off.

It was very crowded in the pub when we arrived with our family, so we decided to be seated at some small tables outside. But as soon as there was a table cleared inside the staff told us. There was live music planned for that night, but even when the place was full, the staff stayed super friendly and caring. The food was just awesome, we had the Rodeo Burger which still make my mouth water when I remember it. Great place, parking might be challenge, but definitely worth to visit.

Ate here Thursday night. Huge menu. We booked....luckily as very busy. Informed of 45 minute wait which was fine as lovely staff kept us informed. Food was lovely and worth the wait!! Lovely open mike session after too, though I resisted banging out my favourite tunes !

Whilst on holiday we had a meal there , everything was spot on, tasty food ,nice friendly staff, clean toilets and plenty of choice either from the menu or the specials board, without a doubt the whole family thought it was very good and if in Eastbourne again would go straight there and not bother looking around.

This establishment produces some of the finest beer I have had the pleasure of drinking. The food was excellent although fairly basic but very good value. I would strongly recommend that you make sure you are hungry before you start as the portions are considerable. All round a very good meal.
