We booked this hotel because the rates had gone up considerably in the usual hotel we book. We have stayed in this hotel before, as hotels go it is clean and staff are friendly. The room was ok but the bed/mattress was far too soft and springy. The breakfast was fine with a good assortment of food.

Room was tired, floors uneven & super squeaky & shower left a lot to be desired but clean & comfortable & affordable for an overnight visit (sea view made up for room condition). Reception staff very polite but LOUIS, front of house at breakfast, was an absolute credit to the hotel considering breakfast was very busy and they appeared to be very understaffed.

We have stayed here many times and on two occasions one of us became unwell the staff were helpful and sympathetic

Staff very friendly and a good size room at a really good price. Property does need freshening up but you’ve got to look past that due to the age of the building. Good history behind it and nicely stocked little bar. Great location over looking the beach and the pier only a minute away. Would certainly revisit

A pleasant and convenient stay, though the property could use some updates. The hotel had a great location, comfortable rooms (it was a warm sunny weekend and the rooms were very warm; but unsure what it would be like in the winter), and friendly staff who were always helpful. Some areas of the hotel felt a little dated and could benefit from refurbishment - like creaky floorboards. But then it was built in 1855 so there is a reason for the creaks.

Faded grandeur We loved the location looking out to the pier. Our room was clean, warm and comfortable. It was very good value The exterior of the building sadly looked very neglected.Old photographs must have been used for the booking site

We have been before, and will continue to visit as we like the food and the entertainment Had a seaview for the first time in four visits, comfortable bed The rooms are ok, we have been before, but the condition of the window sills is appalling, rotting wood

Good hotel in a time warp Location
Sea view
Bar and restaurant staff
The bar and restaurant times are a bit like 1950s Butlins.I appreciate the hotel knows its core clientele but many people these days like to eat after 7.30 p.m. and buy a drink after 11 p.m
Money to be made by moving on - ask Tim Martin!
Breakfast and check out times also restrictive

Great location, right on the front overlooking the sea. Staff were brilliant, very friendly, professional & helpful. Has the feel of an old fashioned family run hotel even though its part of a chain.
Breakfast was lovely with a great choice, snack bar very good.
Yes, as others have said, hotel is a bit tired and could do with a bit of tlc. However, walking along the front, they're all like that.
Heads up; Eastbourne council have decided to do pavement & road resurfacing until Dec19 2025, which does have an impact, not only on the roads but especially if you're at the back left hand side of the hotel, like we were. Getting woken up by a kango at 7am is not great. A lot of restaurants in the road adjacent to the hotel were closed, but there is plenty of choice further into the town

It was okay The location was good. The room was okay but the bathroom was very small and difficult sit on the toilet comfortably as area between bath and opposite wall was 18 inches at most! The bathroom and the smell of landing leading to our room and also the room smelt of old smoke and we could not open the windows

Bed was uncomfortable and you have to wait to be let in past 11pm. It doesn’t have a 24hr front desk. It’s okay for a one night stay but not for a holiday for comfort

My single room, was larger, than the average one's, that I have experenced in the past, very comfortable bed. and good storage space, also had a bath, which is unusual for a single room.
The hotel itself, felt a little run down.
