One of the best locations in Eastbourne. Location The reception staff were unwelcoming, unhelpful and very negative. The breakfast waiting staff, however, were pleasant and helpful.

Apart from the operation of the shower, our stay could not be faulted. The breakfast was very good with a good selection to meet most people's tastes. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and attentive. The knob on the shower was round and slippery and very difficult to operate, especially when your hand is soapy. I had to get out of the shower to wash the soap off my hands in the washbasin and then use a towel to get a grip on the knob to turn the water on and off. MAJOR PROBLEM.

Lovely location and view Great location. Friendly staff. Large room and amazing view of the pier and beach. Broken window pane in bedroom and very wonky bathroom floor.

Traditional sea side British hotel / patient & friendly staff * staff/service: I was really happy with the receptionist when we arrived. We were in a bit of a stressed situation: had a long and tiresome day/journey that day during our road trip through the UK. Booked this hotel last minute. Realized afterwards that we might arrive later than the official closing of check in time. Fortunately, after we called ahead, the receptionist reassured us. Once arrived she was very patient, friendly and to the point. * ambiance: not really sure how to put it in words, it's for sure an older hotel (built 1851) , but this makes for a authentic/traditional ambiance that was awesome to experience at the English sea side. Think traditional sea side hotel with (presumably) older retirees dancing and enjoying themselves in de music hall. * location: great sea front location / I enjoyed waking up early before breakfast and going for a 5K run along the pier/beach. It's an old building (built in 1851) that has preserved it's traditional aura, but with this also has room for physical improvement here and there.

We had great weather so we had an enjoyable stay. Great location. Friendly staff. We had the three-course evening meal on one of our two nights. £20 per person (x 3); the food was atrocious, tasteless & small portions. Extremely overpriced. If the food had been good we would have eaten at the hotel on both nights but as stated the food was horrible.

Exceptional We had upgraded to a superior room with sea view. It couldn't have been better. Tastefully decorated. decent size, The breakfast was delsih, staff very accommodating, nice and chatty (goes a long way) Wasn't too keen on the evening meals, not top quality and minimal menu. So would only do B&B in future

Fantastic value for money and would stay there again should the need arise. Breakfast was excellent value for money and the staff serving there were absolutely wonderful. Always so helpful and always had a smile on their face when you asked for anything. Very much hard work for them but they never faultered. The view - although I didn't expect a good view as I had the single room and was prepared for this.

Pleasant The location The evening meal has changed from a buffet of lots of choices to 4 choices and the food is brought straight out of the kitchen. The staff stand around and constantly walk round the tables waiting to take a plate or empty glass. Rooms have had a livk of paint but found it amusing that they painted round the pictures in the walls! Hallways and lifts need an update as they very dirty, dark and rickety. Lifts take a while and are a squish for 2 people and a wheelchair.

Grand hotel (1851) that's faded and needs refurb. Under new management who are bringing the place up. Reception helpful. Room needed a lightbulb changes, and bathroom fittings repaired. No room fridge. WiFi worked. Cocktail bar led by a real enthusiast. Breakfast not so great. Staff helping everyone, and pastries (ordered in I suspect) good. But the cooked breakfast could be better without much extra cost

Really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was excellent, good quality food, & the bar meals were just as good, ingredients & value for money. Staff were friendly & very helpful. Would really stay there again. Nothing to fault really, except having a rear facing room, & maybe not having the bins emptied.

We stayed for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay. Although the hotel is quite old we had a lovely bedroom where we could see the sea, very comfortable beds and excellent shower with hot water all the time. All the staff, especially Ben, couldn’t do enough for us - and always with a smile. One of our party is a vegetarian and the chef, Steven, came and spoke to her to see what he could do for her for the evening dinner. We hope to come back.

Comfortable and convenient for the town, pier and beachfront. We paid for a low-cost room and were pleased with the comfort and view. The breakfast was very good although I would have appreciated the choice to include Grapefruit juice; mushrooms, fried bread and black pudding. All the staff were very friendly and the Reception staff were very helpful. We chose the hotel because it was one of only 3 offering parking. We didn't mind the cost of parking the car as it was adjacent to the hotel. The decor is 'tired' and the Lifts and doors on the 4th floor haven't been 'spring-cleaned' for a long time! The location was excellent and it offered us great value for money.
