Had a lovely couple of days at The Afton Hotel. Delicious breakfast. The proprietor and staff were very friendly and helpful. The proprietor is very happy to look up anything you want to know, we needed bus information.
Our room, although quite small, was adequate and the king size bed was extremely comfortable.
The hotel is very well situated, right opposite the pier, and near all the local shops and restaurants.
Look forward to staying at The Afton again soon.

Great value break for a couple of days. Would stay here again.
The hotel is excellently situated opposite the pier and surprisingly quiet in the evening, but then again we were there at the end of September. Our room was clean and the facilities were at the level expected for this class of hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I think we were helped by the fact that a coach party of 30 plus also checked in for the week. I think the hotel would have been rather empty otherwise. Because of our itinerary we didn't use the restaurant, but speaking to a couple who did they said they found the food lovely. The fare is basic stuff but that is fine if it is cooked well. Breakfast was £10 pp which compares well with prices available in town which are generally £12 upwards. Bar prices were reasonable.
Our room was clean but some of the paintwork in the room and around the hotel was a little tired. Nothing a little bit of tlc and a dab of paint wouldn't smarten up.

Staff are customer focused. The property is looking tired and in need of some repairs but the atmosphere inside makes up for it.
In time I’m sure the owners will soon have it shipshape.

Was suitable for need
Location good for pier and walk along the front,No .restaurant so needed to find breakfast and dinner locally.
Used tissues and plastic bottle behind the bed..There were no toilet rolls in public toilets.seemed run down.no restaurant open for the weekend.no Wi-Fi in bedroom.

The Afton looks a bit tired externally, the rooms are clean but also a bit tired.
Main lounge area, bar and general areas clean , bright and comfortable.
Good breakfast at a reasonable price.
Good location. External look of the building doesn't reflect on the internal look.
Unfortunately the surrounding view of a burnt out adjacent building spoils the look. No fault of the Afton.
Parking spaces can be an issue in peak season.

Location is amazing so close to the beach, pier, town centre and the train station!
I had a very comfortable sleep, the staff were helpful and friendly and the hotel, my room, bathroom and carpet were clean.
Can't fault it better than expected from a 2 star hotel, makes it a good value for money.
The town itself was a bit too quiet for me though.

Visited this budget ,no frills hotel for two nights over the hot & sunny August bank holiday. The hotel is well situated right opposite the pier and just a two minute walk to the beach.
We were lucky and managed to find a parking space right outside the hotel.
Reception staff were very welcoming and room was ready early which was a bonus.
The room was basic, the bathroom adequate. Everything was clean, the beds comfy and the sash window was opened wide as it was very warm!
We asked for and received straight away, a bath mat, an extra towel and a fan for the night time as even with the window wide open it was very stuffy at night. There was no late night noise, and we had good night's sleep!
We didn't eat at the hotel, there are lots of cafes restaurants & pubs within a short walk and indeed along the promenade.
All in all good value for money.

The location
The hotel needs some moderation, and our room wasn't clean and the staff kindly changed our room and the bed was super king and big and had a great and comfi sleep.
