You have to be aware of what you have booked : 1 room in a 2 stars hotel so you get the confort of a 2 stars.
I ranked 3 stars but it deserves 2, the only reason is the price and the very good location (just in front of the Eastbourne pier).
Except that I was disappointed :
- the room wasn’t very clean (dust, window very dirty)
- very noisy in the street and very bad insulation
- very clear curtain : you get the light in the room at 4am
- shower in bad condition

I believe the quality could be improved easily and quickly, what a shame.

But once again : don’t forget the price in comparaison with others hotel.
If you are not very demanding and here just for 1 or 2 nights, I would recommend this place.

Just returned from a weekend break at the afton, havent been here for a while but have been here many many times before, firstly its under new management and it shows, staff situation seems very minimal there was only two people on the breakfast shift in tge morning, and everyone seems so young, my biggest moan is that over the whole weekend no matter how many times we walked through tge bar and lounge area never saw ONE!! Person having a drink or just sitting chilling reading a newspaper it was never like this it always had a good vibe and felt very welcoming, you could here a pin drop in there it was that quiet, there was no evening entertainment which was very unusual you had to go elswhere in the evening to have a drink ( lost a lot of money over the bank holiday) all you want to do after a long day out is to go downstairs and relax with a drink and a bit of music, ive got to say i think there would be more going on in a morgue than here!!! Rooms very clean but could do with a much lighter duvet in the summer months we was in a very very small room on the top floor it was like an oven, lovely new shower but had to run around in it to get wet pressure so bad, it felt more like a budget stopover hotel rather than a holiday hotel like it used to be.

I stayed here for two nights mid-week and absolutely loved it. Fantastic location, clean, well-equipped rooms, and friendly, helpful staff. Nothing was toouch trouble for anyone (not that I asked for much.)

I don't understand the negative reviews. For what I paid, I was astonished at how good it is. My room seemed spotlessly clean to me. People who go around inspecting every corner to find a speck of dust need to get a life. Yes, the hotel is a bit dated but so is my mum's house and I still go and stay with her. Everything works as it should and I imagine the amazing staff would fall over themselves to put it right if something didn't work.

OK there's no Wi-Fi in the bedrooms, but what do you need that for? I sat in the lovely lounge, with a view of the sea, for an hour and sent a few emails when I needed to.

I loved this hotel and will definitely be back. It was a great base for exploring what the area has to offer. Thank you Afton Hotel!

I stayed at this hotel during the bank holiday period just gone and I can honestly say it was a very pleasant stay. the hotel is a little dated but it makes up for it by its location as it is in a prime location of Eastbourne, directly facing the Eastbourne Pier. I met some of the lovely staff at the hotel which made my stay very enjoyable, specially the lady at the reception (Angie) who was very helpful with top tips and hints around Eastbourne and always had a big smile on. I would certainly recommend staying here and would come back if I were to visit Eastbourne again.

I wasn;t over impressed with this hotel, its quite a old fashioned type of place. The room was ok but got quite a draft coming in from a small balcony door with rotten wood. The en suite was so small to sit on toilet you were sitting with toilet roll dispenser in your side and toilet on top of a small shower. had kettle but nothing else downstairs was okay with large screen telly. there was some entertainment but mainly for older people. Plus we had to put 30 pound on credit card for a damage deposit just for one night. I don't think I would stay here again even though it has a good position

Hotel is In a great location but it is very dated . Some of the staff management wasn't helpful at all. Rooms are small and hot but we did have a nice view. Breakfast wasn't nice at all , eggs solid and no pastries of any kind and no one was about to clean up etc. We were also told we were upgraded to a double room but we never received this . I wouldn't come back to stay again.

We stayed here for three days during the mini heatwave. Huge room with king size bed. Good plentiful cooked breakfast. Entertainment in the evenings. What's not to like. Only problem was finding a parking space nearby.

We got a Wowcher deal for two night including breakfast for £70 for two people so were not excepting much. To be fair the room was basic but clean and the hotel was fine for what we paid. However when checking in we saw a charge of £160 which I think should have been full price..:: VERY expensive. The hotel needed a face lift and decoration but as we got such a good deal we were not bothered by this. Breakfast again was ok as excepted from a budget hotel. If we had this deal again based on location etc we would return but not at full price.

We have been staying at this hotel for almost a week and it has been great. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and actually resemble the pictures on the website which is very much appreciated. I would definitely recommend.

My partner booked us in for one night just a weekend break away from London. Well it was well worth it, staff were lovely and room just right. Clean and comfortable. The hotel is just opposite the pier and in walking distance to everything. They also gave us a welcome drink.

Successful tour. The Afton has undergone a program of refurbishment and the downstairs lounges look very attractive. Great location - only 50 yards from the Pier. Some of the rooms are small - however they are clean and well appointed. Manager Luke and his assistant Nathan are young, energetic and enthusiastic and aim to increase the star rating to 3 stars during 2018. During our four night stay the food was excellent. Fresh produce - beautifully cooked and excellent choices. Very good evening entertainment and bar prices are very reasonably priced. The restaurant staff were young, pleasant and very keen. Under Luke's management - this lovely little hotel has the prospect of a great future. Would highly recommend to group and individual bookings.

We were offered an upgrade of a sea view, the view was good but the room was small for two people.
The bed was fine, not enough places for stuff
The bathroom heating didn’t work.
The staff were friendly and helpful I must say and we felt safe in the area and the hotel.
We had breakfast in a very big room almost empty of furniture, most mornings we seemed to be the only people having breakfast, we did see one other couple.
It seemed strange that we actually felt we were the only people staying there.
The manager told us the hotel was in a period of change and updating
It did seem a bit jaded to be honest and we wished we had gone to a premier inn

Had a party here last night. Amazing Night! Manager Luke and his wife and the owners were all brilliant and we could not have asked for anything more from them. All of our requests were met, everyone had a brilliant night and it is somewhere we would definatly go again!

I was thrown a surprise graduation party in this hotel last night and it was amazing. The staff were so helpful and kind nothing was too much trouble. The whole place was kept very clean and tidy. Luke was on the bar and was very friendly and accomadating. The owners were also present and on hand if we needed anything. I couldn't have asked for a better night. Thank you very much to everyone at the afton hotel that made this possible

The hotel is well situated, directly across from the pier and a fairly short walk to the local shopping area. Bus routes run along the front too.
Afton Hotel is clean but lacks experienced waiting staff, chefs and maintenance staff. Heating is a problem along with the lack of water and heat from the showers in various rooms. We were lucky in our party as our room was warm, with a slow running hot shower. The menu needs looking at along with the chefs ideas! (Oh, and the dish washer could do with being looked at!)
There are sea front rooms.

My husband and me spent the weekend in Afton Hotel, Eastbourne. It was a lovely experience . We had the room overlooking the sea , on request and it was indeed beautiful. It was such a lovely and lively atmosphere in the evening with music , lights and guests in the reception. Luke, was an excellent host , so eager to help and cheerful! The whole crew in Eastbourne were an exemplary set.
The only small setback would have been the conditions of the toilets as they were refurnished very well.
We would definitely recommend and already planning our next one!
Kudos to Afton Hotel

We had a pleasant stay at Afton Hotel. It's quite basic but very comfortable and the staff were friendly. We didn't try the breakfast, so not sure about that. The location is perfect in this beautiful beach side town. Right opposite the Pier and close to the shops in town, walk to beachy head.

Hotel was just as it said on website great value for money. We booked a double room but was given a twin. when we reported to reception they did give us a key to double room but it was far too small for us so we stays in the twin room which was bigger and more lighter. Breakfast was 7.50 each and was ok. Fully cooked buffet style english. with cereals juices coffee and toast. We booked through booking dot com and was told they do not do breakfast. Was also unaware that when booking in we was asked for photo i.d. and a deposit which was not taken off of our card. Hotel staff were very helpful and overall stay was good. Even entertainment was ok.

Read TripAdvisor after booking then thought OMG what have I done, but it wasn't that bad.
Yes the rooms could do with an update but were clean. Staff were ok. Great location. Checked in early without a problem & paid a £1.00 for a parking permit so happy days

The hotel is located right across the street from Eastbourne's pier. Perfect location, close to town center and the beach. It is clean, with a very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are tiny, as you would expect from most British hotels. WiFi is not available in rooms, only in lobby.
