We stayed here just before Christmas. the service was really friendly, the location is great (right opposite the pier). We enjoyed walking along the seafront and just looking out the window from the dining area. Added bonus that you can bring pets as well. its a Very rare occasion that i will return to the same hotel, but i am as it takes pets, so i will come back with my dad and his dog!

Four of us took advantage of an offer at this hotel between Christmas and the New Year. The hotel is perfectly situated for the seafront and the town. We had a room on the third floor and could see the sea and the pier from our window. There is a lift to make access to upper floors easier. Unfortunately one of our party is unable to use a lift and as we were all ‘of a certain age’, was unable to climb the many stairs to the upper floors. The receptionist, despite the hotel being busy, did find them a room on a lower floor. The staff were friendly and the rooms clean and warm. Our ‘deal’ included an afternoon tea which was very nice and breakfast was quite adequate. For the money we paid it was good but it may help to have a breakfast menu and to train staff on how most guests like breakfast served. That is, that the English sometimes like to have cereal before their cooked food rather than both together or even tell guests to make this clear. We had no such problems but we did notice a couple of people being irritated by this and leaving food that had got cold. Having said that, the staff worked hard to keep everyone happy, the bar area was a nice place to sit and relax and we enjoyed our bargain couple of days.

The Afton is a small hotel right on the sea front so perfectly situated. This was our third stay at The Afton Hotel, always for a Christmas event. Rooms are good value, clean and have everything you need. The Staff are always friendly and helpful. We have never found anything to complain about - especially for the price we pay!

A one-night stay for a friend’s birthday party being held in the hotel.

The room was dated and tired and unfortunately when we walked in the room it was like a sauna and way too hot for our liking. Luckily, we were able to turn the radiator down but it took all night to cool down to a reasonable level. I had to prop open the sash window using the the length of 4"x 1" which I assumed was there for that purpose!

The room was okay, clean and functional although It did smell a bit musty. That said I did have a good nights’ sleep.

The reception and bar staff were pleasant, professional and polite.

We arrived a half hour before the end of the breakfast sitting and as a consequence the cooked buffet items looked a little tired, so I opted for toast and cereal.
The waiting staff were busily clearing tables after we had seated and unfortunately not very attentive and didn’t ask if we would like more tea or coffee. I had requested more toast, but again due to the table clearing this was forgotten. That said, the young male waiter did apologise as we were leaving.

Overall a low budget hotel in a good location.

Yes the building is old and the place is slightly run down but the value for money is amazing the rooms were very clean and had everything you needed. Breakfast was a decent selection of choices, in a slightly bizarre function room but you can’t knock it for the price. The staff were very helpful and we had a lovely sea view. Would definitely come back!

We stayed for 2 nights, the room was very clean, the staff hard working and the hotel in a very good location. Unfortunately we left an Apple laptop in our room and thought we would not see it again but we rang from home and the very honest staff had found it then packed it up for it to be collected. We can’t thank them enough for being so honest and helpful, well above the call of duty.
