Hove Plinth Successful Launch and Future Plans
25th April 2018

New cultural attraction, Hove Plinth, launched with its first sculpture, Constellation, on Saturday 21st April to a large crowd with live music, tasty goodies and some big local personalities.

After nearly two years of work from the Hove Civic Society to raise funds and get permission from the Council, work finally got underway a few months ago to create a plinth inspired by Trafalgar Square's Fourth Plinth which would have changing sculptures and be a piece of public art for everyone to enjoy.

By Saturday 21st April, Hove Plinth was completed and its first sculpture installed.  The sculpture, called Constellation, was created by artist Jonathan Wright and features icons representing Hove life and history.  It was officially unveiled by the Mayor of Brighton, Counsellor Mo Marsh, and there were speeches and presentations by members of Hove Civic Society and Jonathan Wright.

Entertainment at the launch was provided by local Diva Vince Venus who presented the whole event and The Swing Ninjas played live.  People danced and took pictures as well as nibbling on Hove Plinth branded cup cakes provided by Miss Bean's Cakes .

It was a beautiful sunny day and the whole thing went swimmingly.  Anyone who would like to support the maintenance of Hove Plinth and the commissioning of future sculptures can click here to donate or visit the Artists' Open House called Collectors Selection where Hove Plinth merchandise will be on sale with all proceeds going to the plinth fund.

The next sculpture will replace Constellation in around 18 months' time and it will be called Flight of the Langoustine by artist Pierre Diamantopoulo.
