Look Good, Do Good! An inspiring motto for this charity event on 24th October that helps to fund research, develop treatments and save the lives of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
October is Domestic Violence awareness month. Unfortunately for many women and men out there domestic abuse is a regular occurrence in their household. Since 1990, Macmillan Cancer Support have been organising a coffee morning to raise funds for the charity. The event has grown from a local fundraising event to a countrywide event. In 2013 an amazing 154,000 people registered their coffee morning and a record £20 million was raised - that is quite staggering! Let's make it bigger and better this year!
Jeans for Genes raises money for Genetic Disorders UK and aims to change the world for children with genetic disorders. Individually, genetic disorders are rare but together they affect 1 in 25 children born in the UK - that's more than 30,000 babies each year. Their associated health problems mean that genetic disorders are the biggest cause of death of children aged 14 years and under.
Cancer Research UK's Race for Life is a series of 5 kilometre or 10 kilometre women-only events, which are raising money for research to help beat all 200 types of cancer sooner! Barnstaple's Race for Life starts adjacent to the Tarka Tennis Centre car park.
Armed Forces Day will be on Saturday, 28 June 2014. It is an opportunity to do two things. Firstly, to raise public awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces. Secondly, it gives the nation an opportunity to 'Show Your Support' for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community; from current serving troops, their families and from veterans to cadets.
The purpose of this awareness week is to remind us of the importance of the role of insects in our everyday lives. If you have a garden and some space to spare, why not allow it to become waste ground? By allowing native plants to take over it will bring a whole variety of insects into your garden.
A great event with challenging courses, the 100 mile cycle visiting both Exmoor and Dartmoor travels through some of the most scenic countryside in the British isles with great climbs and long sweeping descents. The 100 kilometre course offers the same challenges but in a smaller package, ideal for beginners and seasoned riders with support throughout. A really great day out!
