Newly launched Starfish Community Charity is holding the inaugural Great North Devon Bake Off Competition at the BIG Sheep family attraction near Bideford on Sunday 29th June 2014 and is calling all bakers to come forward and enter this fun competition.
Professional, amateur and junior bakers are invited to enter a number of sweet and savoury categories. These include a range of pastries, cakes, puddings and preserves. Entry is only £5 per category or just £2 for juniors and includes free entry into the BIG Sheep.
Once the judging has been completed by local judges Phoebe Gibb, author of Best Ever Recipes Cupcakes and Managing Director of BayTree Catering, Sarah Escott of Thebestof Barnstaple and Lisa Templeton, Managing Editor of North Devon Journal, the entries will be auctioned off at 2pm and visitors can leave with a scrumptious feast.
The proceeds from the Bake Off will enable Starfish Community Charity to provide vital support for local charities, people and communities in North Devon.
As a social landlord, North Devon Homes has seen the real impact of welfare and funding cuts on our local communities.
Customer Involvement Officer, Clare Paddon says, "We come across so many issues day in day out and have identified increasing gaps in the services and support now available. Staff decided to formalise their Charities and Sponsorship Group to create an independent charity to make a real difference locally. We are delighted that the Starfish Community Charity has recently successfully achieved charitable status. We will be raising money for local charities, administering a hardship fund for tenants in both social and private rented accommodation and providing grant funding to support vital community groups, projects and activities."
She continues, "Many staff and customers of North Devon Homes are keen bakers and we have seen some impressive entries in the competitions we have held to date. We wanted to build on this to bring together people from all walks of life to share a common passion whilst raising awareness of our new charity. We are really excited about our first fundraising event for the Starfish Community Charity and look forward to finding the Great North Devon Bake Off Ultimate Champion. This event has also provided us with the opportunity to develop our partnership working with some fantastic local companies such as the BIG Sheep, without whom events like these would not be possible."
