As the Festive Season approaches and the Christmas preparations begin, the question of ‘real’ or ‘artificial’ Christmas trees is an evergreen debate. Here we provide the pros and cons to both sorts of trees!
Christmas lights are lights used for decoration around Christmas. The custom goes back to the use of candles to decorate the Christmas tree in upper-class homes in 18th-century Germany. Christmas trees displayed publicly and illuminated with electric lights became popular in the early 20th century.
Wednesday 29th October is the UK's first official National Employee Motivation Day. A nationwide study, commissioned by Argos for Business, has revealed that over half of British workers are unmotivated at work.

The Great British Beach Clean is launched once again this September! Why? Because the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) knows that the coast is a single environment of its own that needs extra special focus! The beach clean weekend is into its 21st year and all the information collected is made into useful data for the Big Weekend survey.
On Thursday 11 September & Saturday 13 September St Anne’s Arts & Community Centre will be open for special events. Learn about the history of St Anne’s stone by stone with a free lunchtime lecture from architect Jim Gardner, followed by free drawing classes led by local professionals Quay Drawing. For this year’s Heritage Open Days we are delving into the building itself, thinking about how it’s put together in comparison with modern buildings and finding out what makes St Anne’s special.
On Saturday 2 August St Anne’s Arts Centre will be hosting a day of free World War 1 themed activities.
Cancer Research UK's Race for Life is a series of 5 kilometre or 10 kilometre women-only events, which are raising money for research to help beat all 200 types of cancer sooner! Barnstaple's Race for Life starts adjacent to the Tarka Tennis Centre car park.
St Anne's Chapel sits in a green, pedestrianised precinct in the centre of Barnstaple. The Chapel is a Gothic building, thought to date predominantly to the early 14th Century, although there are no records to prove or disprove this. North Devon Moving Image (NDMI) is looking for local people to get involved with an oral history film making project about St Anne's Chapel in Barnstaple.
