We called in on the Friday of the recent Canal boat fest on the neighbouring canal. Despite the fact that the place was heaving and the pub was also catering for a wedding we were made to feel very welcome indeed. We had a lovely freshly cooked fish and chip supper at a very good value for money price. This was so much better than previous visits and it was great to see. Well done Fingerpost

Stopped here for a quick lunch. Lovely setting overlooking the canal so plenty of interest. Very pleasant service - I was offered a taste of the house wine before I decided on it. Sandwiches were very fresh. Downside was the state of the menus - fingermarks and sauce residue. It just needed a little more TLC . Toilet had no paper and a door which did not lock. Little things which take no time or expense to put right.

We've been here at the Fingerpost twice before the change of ownership.
We walked in to be greeted by the friendly bar staff who served us our drinks & sat us down & the children down really quickly. We ordered our food & and was updated on the progress which helped, because we had young children with us ( they had brought colouring books).
The kids had a Sunday dinner, I had the turf & chuck which was rump steak and a Cajun chicken breast with absolutely lovely chips, peas and tomato with a pepper corn sauce. My partner had a trio of minted lamb steaks with mash.
We both agreed that the food was lovely and there was just enough so that you felt neither full nor hungry. For dessert I had spotted dick, the kids had ice cream and my partner had a pancake with choc sauce & fresh cream.
We found the atmosphere ok, yes there were blokes drinking at the bar but they were no hassle in fact when we walked in they said hello. The only downside we found was the car park quickly fills up & we didn't get an itemised bill but overall a pleasant Sunday lunch and we will be going back.

Very good outstanding food overall very top quality, been here a few times and have returned.

The Food is very pricey considering other places near by but you do get what you pay for on quality.

Would definitely recommend :)

Called in at the Fingerpost tonight to see how they were getting on and have a bite to eat as we are very fond of this place and it is our local. What an improvement. The atmosphere was lovely. It was very cosy. The staff were very friendly and welcoming especially mine hosts. Lovely specials of Black Country cooking on the blackboard menu apart from the old faithfuls. Two for a tenner offers plus others if you turn up in your slippers on a Sunday !!!.
The food was absolutely excellent, freshly cooked. Not great mounds but quality and ample for a main course. Loved the stilton and mushroom sauce on my steak.Washed down with an excellent bottle of Rioja. Clear evidence that the new owners have now settled in and found their stride. Well worth a visit. This will be a great place to visit in June if not before when the canal boat fest weekend takes place 15th and 16th June. Well done Fingerpost !!!

When visiting relatives who live in Pelsall we stumbled upon the Finger Post when wanting a nice meal. We weren't sure what to expect, but were very nicely surprised. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. My son had a childrens meal, which he enjoyed (meal, drink and icecream). My husband and I both had burgers which were fantastic (I had the tower burger which had onion rings on it, and I can honestly say they're the best I've had this side of the Atlantic!) and my Aunt and cousin had scampi and fish and chips, which they both enjoyed.
The food was very reasonably priced and attractively served. The one thing I think they could improve would be dessert, as it seemed to be bought in, and the rest of the food seemed all freshly prepared, but I guess I'm just being picky!

Visited tonight with my wife as Wednesday is Carvery Night
This is an old pub sitting at the side of a canal which is very clean with very friendly staffThe Carvery is somewhat different to what you come to expect because you give your order at the bar for your selection of three meats and when this is ready it is brought to your table
Then you have to take your plate to a table that has about five metal tureens in which are kept the selection of vegetables and potatoesThe food was fresh and hot but the roast potatoes were very overcooked
We both had a good full meal and the dining area was clean and organised - probably about 14 tablesThe food had a home cooked taste but we didn't think the standard was up to our local Toby Carvery
All in however we had a pleasant visit but next time we will try the normal menu

I myself and my family hate at the fingerpost 2 years ago and it was not very pleasant, however, recently we have tried the Fingerpost and it was a very good experience. The standard of cooking was incredible from the last experience. The Fingerpost have now improved with a brand new team of chefs and staff also, when asked the question of " are they experienced chefs", the answer was yes! and the expectation of the standard of food for us all was then very high indeed, after recieving the meals we was very happy to say that was one of the best experiences we have ever had here. A huge Thankyou to the fingerpost pub team, we shall be returning.

I visited Fingerpost recently. I have to admit that on first glance of the outside I was reluctant to go in. When I went in, my demeanor improved. There was an attempt made on painting and decor. My husband ordered a pint of Coke and myself a wine. My husband's glass had food stuck on it. We only noticed it when he had sipped out of it. I let it go as we were attending a function and did not want to be rude. When the food came out, I noticed my portion size was very small. I left hungry! I thought surely an omelette would come with chips or something. No, just an omelette and some little bits of tomato etc. Don't get me wrong, it was a nice tasting meal. I just wish the portion had been bigger. I felt like I was eating a child's plate. I did a starter salad which was not even big as a saucer. Was not really a great salad being they did not offer any dressing or oil for it but I ate it because I was hungry. The restaurant might also think about investing in a new vinegar pot for the table. Ours clearly looked as if it was barely able to keep its top with all the cracks in it which made it look dirty. (even though I knew it was vinegar stains) It took a while for this pre ordered food to reach some of us at times. I am not sure why as only 2 other tables were occupied that I could see. (other than our function) With a little work this place could be a nice place to go. A fresh look on the outside and some attention to detail on the inside could make it a very nice place. My advice, have a snack before you go.

My wife and i chanced upon our first visit to the Fingerpost recently. When we were courting - all those years ago - we used the pub then but it was called " The Royal Oak " and was different to what we found on our first visit. The pub has been extensively modernised and rooms opened up to create a great atmosphere. The chalk boards all proudly showing the varied choices of food, wines and offers. The first time we stopped by we also noticed a great " sun deck " offering excellent views over the canal that runs next to the pub. We've been by a few times now and recently enjoyed sitting out on the sun decking taking a well earned cold beer ( and pino & soda ) in a rare day of sunshine. Our dog was made welcome too. Judging by the number of people in ( and out ) of the pub it proved very popular with most folk dining too. As we visited by afternoon we didn't sample the food but noted that numerous ( maybe all ) people all thanked the well attentive staff when paying their bills and leaving.
The pluses +++ - drop by and try - especially when the weathers good to take in the peaceful views over the fields and canals.
The minuses --- - the music out side, while very varied and pleasant is too loud.
We believe the new owner- Cheryl and her staff - will do well here. Good luck to all at " The Fingerpost "......

We have eaten at the Fingerpost several times. We either have a great meal or a mediocre meal. This pub is set on the canal with lovely views. The staff are very friendly and if you have a problem they do try hard to resolve it. With a bit more effort and consistency it has the potential to be great. Reasonably priced menu and some good dishes. Just needs to be nice food more regularly

The Fingerpost Eatery is our local. We eat there regularly and very much treasure our leisurely quality cooked suppers sitting at our favourite table overlooking the canal. Its a lovley setting and its great to watch the sun go down over the canal. The Chef does a wonderful job with the menu and the staff are absolutely good ness themeselves in looking after you.
The reason I am not going overboard about this place is the fsact that you often have to run the gauntlet through the limpet smokers who are frightened of moving a foot from the only entrance. Then you often encounter wet smelly dogs splayed across the floor in between the early evening after work boozers.Having said that its well worth the challenge
