Wonderful meal, food was beautifully cooked, proper chips, the staff very friendly and efficient, will definitely be going again. Such a shame that trip advisor has not up dated their name. Please change asap as this venue should receive lots of positive comments. We are looking forward to our next visit.

I have been meaning to pop in since the makeover to Berts Bistro, I wnt in lunchtime today and there's a lovely welcome from the staff, helpful and friendly, comfortable seating . Also seating outside on the decking looking over ( I think) Nest Common and the canal, all mowed and clean. I loved the menu, there old faves like all day brekki and more unusual like lamb chops, I had Cajun chicken with the most gorgeous handmade chips!! A range of two for £10/12/16 meals, curries, lite bites , pub faves , grills. And on Sun a roast for £5.99
The starters and pud choices were hard to refuse ( homemade bread and butter pudding !)
They accept debit/ credit cards - under £10 there's a £1 fee.
Really enjoyed my meal here, can't wait to go back .

My wife and I had a stroll along the canal for a lunchtime drink but, as we sat outside we saw Sunday roasts being served. I normally do not go out on Sunday as I like my food cooked just so. Anyway we decided to have some food and I must say it was the best lunch I have had in a pub. We have eaten a few times there and each time it has been well cooked and a very friendly atmosphere. I would recommend it.

Had my daughters wedding lunch at the fingerpost for 44 guests. The day was very wet but the staff were fantastic and looked after all of the guests making us all feel at home. The food went down well as did the drink and I can't recommend the place enough, guests who had not visited the Fingerpost for a while all commented on how it now looked and that they would be returning very soon. The rain was not the pubs fault but the bride and groom will be returning next week to get the photos of them on the canal bridge and the surrounding countryside. I can recommend it as a fantastic place to visit over the summer with the great surroundings but even next winter I am sure there will be a warm welcome waiting on a rainy day.

Since the new owners have taken over this pub we have been twice for food.. Impressed both times. Food was well presented and tasty. Homemade chips were delicious!! Had a lovely Sunday afternoon on the decking in the sunshine while the children played football on the common.. Really hope the new owners make a go of it as it makes it the most pleasant pub in pelsall! Just couple of negatives.. Toilets need a bit of TLC and need more staff when busy.. Keep up the good work !

Having been recently taken over the village has been crying out for a pub such as this for a considerable amount of time - good choice of beer with three guest ales plus the standard lager fayre, well priced, home cooked pub grub all served with a smile! For a while now my wife and I have been travelling out of Pelsall for drinks/ evening dinner and so it's great there's an option on our doorstep! Well worth a visit!

My husband and I called in at The Fingerpost yesterday afternoon for the first time in six months or more and were amazed at the difference. The instant we walked through the door the place smelled fresh and looked amazing. We were greeted on arrival and shown thro to the restaurant area and asked to come to the bar to order when we were ready. The choice on the menu was very good indeed. I had the cajun chicken which was devine and unusual (a number of smaller peices as you would expect chicken tikka to be served and my husband had the surf and turf (after being told the Cod Almighty was off the menu as the chef was not happy with the quality of the cod supplied to them and so not willing to serve it - which is always nice to hear). Everything was delicious and my husband enjoyed his pint of Doombar. The only downside was it was a little wet and windy to enjoy the decking but roll on summer because the view of the canal and common land is striking.

Would recommend to friends and family as we had a great time with the lads. The decor has recently been updated which creates a good atmosphere. good place to wine and dine.

I suppose the regulars who used to drink in the pub will hate the place as they have closed in the bar area and it isn't their drinking den anymore and it's now a bistro. A slight teething trouble with the card machine not working but hey ho it's not the end of the world on opening week. The food is miles better and size potions are up to you from £5-£13 I had a £8 dinner and it was massive and really nice. The dining room is now closed in which is better, probably need an extra member of staff or two, look forward to trying the full menu

Had Bank holiday meal here with wife and daughter. We all had different meals which all of which were served hot, quickly and with friendly service. Used to come here years ago and its nice to see how the new owners have cleaned it up and updated thr decor. Lovely location and a great place to try if you dont want the usual microwave food served in many pubs. Cant believe someone can compare it to mcdonalds! (obviously not happy with the changes to "their old pub") Will definitely be back.

Went for the first time since it changed hands, we live walking distance. Food was vey nice, menu is standard pub fayre. My steak was very good. Beer was also very good with a choice of real ales. Being on the edge of a reasonable size village and next to the canal its in a good spot. Only fault was there were only 2 peopleto both serve behind the bar and wait on tables, landlord did say that was a mistake, they were very busyy.

For those of you who are local enough to have been party to the cry of 'what we need in Pelsall again is a quality pub serving good food' well your wait is over. The Fingerpost is serving high quality food accompanied by well kept beer in pleasant surroundings - give it a go you won't be disappointed.

We heard that new people had taken over and were not disappointed thanks to excellent food and a great atmosphere in the new look Fingerpost. The new bar really does improve the pub as drinkers now have their own separate area, rather than blocking the front entrance like they used to do. Will definitely go back soon.

We decided to pay the Fingerpost a visit for a Sunday lunch after hearing it had re-opened with new management.
We were pleasantly surprised by the tasteful refurbishment and were equally surprised and pleased by the warm welcome offered by the new management and staff team.
We didn't have to wait long for our food and it arrived piping hot. The Sunday roast was amazing, real roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings, melt in the mouth beef, plenty of veg and an enormous helping of mashed potato. I was so full, I couldn’t manage a pudding!
For drinks, I decided on a glass of wine and my husband opted for a pint of Doombar. I’m not a beer drinker, but my husband seemed impressed by the quality of his pint, so had to have a second one!
All in all we had a lovely meal in pleasant surroundings. The exterior decking area overlooking the canal and common will be lovely through the summer months and we can't wait to return to sample more of the menu.

We moored our narrowboat nearby while on holiday and had not intended to eat out but family came to visit and as time went on we decided to just have a drink at the pub. More time went on and we were all hungry and when a very friendly member of staff suggested she could do a sharing platter for us we decided to have a look at the menu. The "Black County" food board came to the table and we immediatley splied faggots and peas on there! other family members chose ham and eggs and fish and chips off the main menu. All the meals were just £5 each - excellent value! The faggots were really gorgeous and everyone really enjoyed their meals. The staff were extremely attentive ensuring we had enough drinks and checking everything was ok. The decor in the pub was modern and clean and we would certainly go back. There were just two minor grumbles. The hand pulled bitter was off so the only draught bitter they could offer was John Smiths. Not one of my favourites but I guess the locals must enjoy it? The bonus was they were offering Bank's Mild for £2 a pint. I had not tried mild before and as I was having a proper Black Country dinner I thought a drop if Mild would be the way to wash it down and I was not mistaken! The other grumble was that we ordered mash with our faggots. When it arrived it had chips. Now I know we could have mentioned this and I am certain it would have been rectified without a problem but our choice was to say nothing and enjoy the chips. Towards the end of the meal one of the staff came over to check if we needed more drinks and noticed the last few chips on my plate - she asked how I had chips on my plate when I had ordered mash and I explained. I thought it showed her in a very positive light that she had noticed there was a mistake even though we had not mentioned it. She seemed truly horrified that they had got it wrong but we had enjoyed our food anyway and would certainly go back

Stopped here for a Saturday lunch as we passed. Its was our second visit, the first being around 3 years ago. Since then its made some god improvements. The pub sits on a bridge next to a canal, in the summer this would add the feel for the pub. We sat at one of the many tables with window views. The service was very friendly and helpful. The menu had a good choice with some traditional black country food available. The food was good pub food and the price was not too pricey. It was a decent pub with good food

Visited on Saturday evening with my friend and I highly recommend. The moment we walked in the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was of good quality and tasted homemade and also a good price. There was a menu which had a lot of choice but there was also a specials board with some comfort food on such as cheese and potato pie and corned beef hash which were only £5 each. It was nice to go to a pub and not have microwaved food put in front of you. The service was fab. The pub was very quiet but then we did go early but this didn't bother us anyway. I will definitely be visiting again.

A average pub. Prices are cheep if you want a nice pub meal. Staff are friendly but the only lager they had on tap was carling when I went. Not impressive for a pub.

Have visited on quite a few occasions and can recommend this restaurant. Beer battered fish is to die for, have also enjoyed Black and Blue burger, home made and melts in the mouth. Staff are very attentive and happy to advise and assist.
In the summer months its lovely to sit outside and has views over the canal and countryside.

I have eaten at this canal side establishment many times and usually rave about the food quality and value, unfortunately this time I was not as impressed.
The fish is usually very fresh and quite a size but on his occasion the size and quality was lacking. There was a price reduction from my last visit but I would have preferred to pay more and have the previous visits quality.I will try again as this is the first time In many visits I have not been satisfied.
The pub is located at the canal side with a dining area and patio area which overlooks the canal and parkland. Ideal for sipping in the sun.

Went to the old oak a couple of times over the weekend and ate both times, Saturday night had steak and mrs had hunters chicken both very good, blue cheese sauce very nice, yesterday had Sunday dinner again very good, even got some extra beef which was a bonus. If I had 1 minor complaint there seems to be a few flies buzzing all the time, not there fault as doors open and right by the canal but maybe try and do something about them, drinks were good, wish they still had coors, wine fine and cocktails
