Just called up on spec and was really impressed....great service, polite and friendly staff, clean and attractive setting and a tasty carvery with loads of veg. Would've appreciated slightly less stinginess with the meat but everything else was faultless.

Used to visit this pub several years ago when it was the Victory. It has relatively recently reopened after being flooded out. It is now refurbished and a lovely setting inside. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The carvery was excellent and so this won't be our last visit. Mid week carveries have just started so we will be trying one of those pretty soon. Tip for Sunday Carvery - book in advance as it was extremely busy by 1245. It's good to find a local pub with this level of food and service.

Visited this pub for a lunchtime carvery today and I must say it was excellent. I'd go as far as to say that it's the best carvery I've had in a very long time. The food was tasty the service was first class and the atmosphere was very friendly. Very good value for money and we are already planning our next visit. Thanks very much.

After finding out that this place were under new management and had a refurbishment we couldn't wait to visit again!
Set in a beautiful country location .. Wonderful outdoor area (will be great in summer)
Indoors is beautiful so much work as been done on such a vast space but it's still really cosy.
All the staff were very friendly and attentive, hats off to Tom the owner you have a great team.
Now the food we went got the traditional carvery and it didn't disappoint! So much choice and cooked perfectly. We saw many meals come out and all looked wonderfully presented.
We will definitely return and recommend to others.

Heard that this place reopened and have not been for years thought we would pay a visit and we're delighted we did! My partner and I were served highly quality cooked food in a candle lit, relaxing atmosphere and it was just beautiful. Just what we needed for date night! The staff are friendly, caring and polite. We also saw posters of up and coming events we shall definitely booking up for! The Allerford Inn staff really need to pat themselves on the back with such a great job you are all doing, so well done you!
Highly recommend such a gorgeous place!

Recently I had my annual sports club dinner at this pub. Having not been for many years I was sceptical but was put right at ease by new management team assuring me of the quality of the venue and food.
I was not disappointed.
From the get go during the organising period the landlord was so helpful in helping me organise the costs and menu options available to My club to make the Evening run smoothly.
On the evening we had a number of servers doing all they could to make the evening a success. Timing service of food perfectly to allow for awards to be given. All the pre ordered food managed to find its way to the correct person (an unheard of feat from previous experience) and the kitchen even managed to cope with last minute orders adding to there extensive work load of nearly 30 guests just for us let alone the rest of the pub.
All staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was lovely.
Pub looks great in its ownership.
Recommend to any and all!
Regards
A newly found regular

Party of 12. All had Sunday Carvery. Good choice of meats and vegetables. Staff were most obliging. Lovely atmosphere. Good selection of sweets to complement the main meal. All thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Although the restaurant is a little way out of the town it is well worth finding.

We recently had our childrens christening reception at the Allerford and couldn't have been happier!

Ellie was wonderful from the very beginning and answered all questions as best she could (they had only been open 2 weeks when I made the enquiry and booked) and any that she wasn't able to were dealt with in a prompt manner.

We had the function room to ourselves and it comfortably fit all 50 guests and a childrens soft play!! We were also extra lucky that the weather was great so we could take advantage of the masses of outside space and seating.

The Buffett food provided was delicious and more then enough! Everybody commented on it.

If I were to make one suggestion only to be of help, I would recommend when a large function is booked there is one designated (or more) member of staff working just to tender to the party. I think it would result in more drinks being ordered etc and as a host I may have been able to sit down instead of carrying drinks/plates of food around all day :)

Great venue for a party, lovely food and friendly staff would definitely recommend.

Thanks again.

I visited The Allerford Inn last night with my parents, husband and two young children. It was a spur of the moment decision to eat out and we are so glad we did.

I wasn't even aware it had re-opened after the floods but it has really been re-done to a high standard. There was a lovely atmosphere and the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you.

I loved the menu - so many of my favourites so will need to return again soon to try the others!

My mum and husband chose the special. (Sorry I can't remember the name but was a chicken stir fry dish with spicy noodles). Both plates were empty and both said it was delicious.

My little girl loved the little chicken that her ice cream came in and my Mocha was lovely.

The meal was reasonably priced and value for money for the obviously fresh, home cooked food.

We will definitely be returning. A lovely pub with great staff and food! Highly recommended!

Thank you for a nice weekend welcoming my family and friends. Place children friendly and the gardens give them a lot of space to run round. Ellie and Paul (staff) were really friendly and helpful and worked hard to make the weekend successful. Friends and family all commented positively about the venue and food. Also good value for money.

My wife and I made our first visit to this pub which reopened recently after a long period out of use. It has been renovated in a very tasteful way, looks great from the outside and there's plenty of different seating areas inside to suit everyone's needs from a cosy corner for two, to large family or a large group get-together. We visited on spec on 30th August arriving around 12:30 and it was reasonably busy at this time, and got busier during the next hour or so. Nevertheless we ordered drinks and got a table without a problem. We decided to go for the Carvery which consisted of 3 meats, roast potatoes, potato dauphinoise, Yorkshire pudding and a vast array of fresh vegetables to choose from.
Everything I selected was served hot and very tasty, an excellent meal for the very reasonable price charged.
I was a very surprised by another visitor's review which I assume to have been for the same day that we visited, as it was completely different to our own experience. True, there isn't a "meet and greet" person like you have in some of those pub chains to book you in and escort you to your table, but personally I am not a fan of such places as invariably, you end up queuing at the meet and greet station waiting to be seated. I much prefer to go direct to the bar, order a drink, pick up a menu and get my table number and directions if necessary, not difficult really. As for the staff, I found them all to be courteous and helpful, keeping tables clear of empty glasses and plates on a regular basis,, taking dessert orders, relaying tables etc. certainly not wandering around aimlessly as I have read elsewhere.
Our bill for two good quality carvery meals and four alcoholic drinks was under £30 - certainly very reasonable!
The pub is definitely a little off the beaten track, and will not get a lot of passing trade, so it will rely a lot on word of mouth, hence this review. However it is well worth giving it a try and then you can make your own mind up. We'll definitely be returning again in the future.

Recently re-opened, have been there 5-6 times over last few weeks for a mix of food and just drinks.
Very nicely fitted out with large patio deck and rear garden and decent front garden with seating. Inside it's very open feeling but there are several distinct areas that cover the options from simply sitting with a drink to eating, whether it's 2 of you or a large party. Very well thought out and spaced out, there isn't anywhere where you feel you're on top of other people or having to squeeze between tables.
A small menu which covers all the bases means that everything is cooked on site which is a welcome change from pubs with large, multi-option menus where it's impossible to have everything fresh as wastage would be ruinous.
Spoke with the landlord and this is a very deliberate approach as they want everything to be, in his words, "perfect" - and they're not far off. His only concession was that they might add some daily specials at a later stage!
As to the food itself, simple (ie non-pretentious), extremely well cooked and well presented. Of the things we've tried, the field mushrooms with pesto and blue cheese are superb, as is the sausage and mash and, joy of joys, you are actually asked how you'd like your burger cooked!! I had mine medium rare and they got it spot on.
Add to this a welcoming, friendly and very effective team of bar and waiting staff and a good selection of beers and wines and this must rate as a top place to go either for a casual drink on a lazy afternoon or some very good food.
We will be making regular visits (I plan to work my way through the menu) and while I'd really like to keep this place to myself, that wouldn't be fair on the rest of the population.

My wife and I wanted an early Sunday Lunch so booked a table for 12:00; when we arrived all was very quiet. I was concerned that this newly re-opened pub was not attracting enough business. We bought our drinks, got our carvery ticket and went to the carvery. There was a choice of Beef, Pork and Turkey. with a good selection of vegetables, and of course Yorkshire puddings. I chose just beef, my wife beef and turkey. The beef was tender and had a good taste. The vegetables were good too, and enabled me to exceed my five a day. An enjoyable lunch, we didn't want dessert. Certainly on my worth another visit list. As for my initial concern, when we left just after 12:30 it was filling up nicely and I overheard the man behind the bar turning a phone enquiry down because they were fully booked. Deservedly so, mental reminder to phone first when planning a repeat visit (01823 461119)
