The new organiser of this year’s The Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Half Marathon is on course to hit his target of 1,700 runners for the event.

On track for 2016

With just two weeks to go, Joe Williams of UKRunChat, is delighted to have received 1,400 entries for the event, which will be held on Sunday the 19th June. He’s decided to cap the entry as it’s his first year in charge and he wants to build a solid foundation for future growth.

Anyone wishing to enter should register online here. Entry costs £24.50 for affiliated club runners and £26.50 for non-affiliated runners.

Shrewsbury in the big leagues

Joe said: “I go to places like Chester who have 5,000 people running their half marathon and I see no reason why we couldn’t have the same number of entries in Shrewsbury,” said Joe, who is himself a runner. “Shrewsbury is my home town and I would love to grow the event.

“We have attracted some really quick runners this year who will complete the half marathon in sub one hour 10 minutes. It is registered with UK Athletics and the runners can earn points.”

Great sponsors

All the runners will receive a technical T-shirt this year thanks to sponsorship by award winning caravan and motorhome dealership Salop Leisure and the event is also being sponsored by Nuffield Health, Greenhous Group and Sodexo.

“I think the excellent support of Salop Leisure and the other sponsors has certainly helped to promote this year’s The Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Half Marathon,” added Joe.

Salop Leisure’s chairman Tony Bywater said: “We are delighted to support the half marathon, which is good for the town’s profile and promotes health and fitness amongst the citizens of Shrewsbury,” said My Bywater. “Improved fitness has been shown to improve concentration levels and productivity, as well as making individuals feel better about themselves.”

One of the company’s employees, Max Ball, will be running the half marathon as part of his MaxAndTheMac12 challenges to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, who are supporting his father, Steve, as he battles terminal cancer.

Salop Leisure also supported the Mercedes Benz Shrewsbury 10K organised by Ultimate Fitness Experience early this year.
