I decided to use an insurance broker (Howden) for the first time a couple of years ago for car insurance, as my circumstances were a little unusual, and did not fit with the usual questions asked on comparison websites. I was pleasantly surprised with the level of cover and quotations they could offer, and with the helpful nature of their staff. Due to my experience, I now use them to source other insurance policies.

Howdens already deal with our home and contents cover and when the motor cover for our two cars fell to be renewed we sought alternative quotes from them. Following a very positive, helpful, patient and friendly experience placing my home insurance (August 2025, Jasmine Smith) through Howdens, Peterborough, I again used them (February 2026, Sonia Dunsdon) to place car insurance with the same result. I phoned Howdens Birmingham office as I was looking for insurance for my security guard Buisness. I was put through to Shane, Shane done an amazing job to get me a bespoke public liability insurance to meet the requirements of my business. Nothing was too much trouble for him, from the initial phone call to him to the end product. He showed professionalism and expertise in his field of work. I asked Howden for a quote for Home Insurance, and they provided a competitive one. I can say that Melissa, who handled it, was very helpful and efficient, but the worth of the actual policy can only be assessed when I have to claim.
I also had approached Howden because I thought they were a local firm. I was disappointed to find they were are large multi-national.
