When my Home Buildings and Contents insurance came up for renewal my existing insurers required a 30% increase in premium. Having obtained alternative quotes from comparison websites without success I made contact with Howden. This was the first time I had consulted Brokers and I was very impressed with the service I was given. They were quick to appreciate the special requirement I required in my policy and were able to deal with all my questions regarding a new insurance policy. Although there was an increase in my premium this was about 10%.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Howden.

Having had a bad experience with a well known national insurance company over a non-fault auto claim, my wife and I decided to utilise a broker to source and manage ongoing cover. Having had positive experience with A-Plan a decade or so ago we chose to visit the same company, now known as Howden Insurance at its branch in Cheltenham.

It was so refreshing to set up our policies face to face with a broker/adviser. The company negotiated on our behalf to source the best match to our insurance needs for the best price available.

Although our policies went up a little in price over some products available online, we were assured we had good quality insurance and in the event of a claim the branch would have claims advisor representing us.

Wind forward a few months it happened. I returned to my parked car in our local high street to find a lorry had reversed into it causing substantial damage. The timing could not have been worse for us. I was just over a week away from having a full hip replacement and my wife was just embarking on cancer treatment.

A call to Howden late that afternoon set the wheels in motion of a seriously impressive set of events all co-ordinated and overseen by the branches hugely experienced claims handler, Nicky Davis. Within hours an excellent claims handling company, Kindertons, had been appointed to assist and a hire car delivered to me within 36 hours of the accident. Ordinarily it would be a week or so before my damaged car would be recovered from my home. Nicky, understanding that it was only handful of days before my operation spoke with Kindertons to ensure the damaged car was recovered prior to me being hospitalised. Two and a half weeks on since the ‘accident’ and the car has been assessed and is en-route to a highly regarded bodyshop for repair.

I cannot rate the Cheltenham branch of Howden highly enough and Nicky’s response during a very difficult time for me and my wife has been simply exceptional.

Unfortunately, a driver ran into our m/home while we were on holiday in France. My phone calls were answered immediately - no waiting in a queue listening to music- and Grace, at Howdens Shrewsbury, even rang me back to save my 'pay as you go' mob bill.
