We have used Aplan for many years and they do provide a great service.
We have only had to use them once for a household claim. They were very efficient and the claim was dealt with quickly and we were satisfied with the outcome.
Our only criticism is the many reminder phone calls and letters, that the renewal is due. When we do contact Aplan, its always a game of getting it cheaper. We do our homework first, then call to say we can get it cheaper. Then the game begins, with Aplan telling us what we wont get elsewhere, we go back and forth until a fee is agreed.
It would be so much easier if they found two or three comparison's before they start calling!

I used A Plan to get a quotation for car insurance, I already had household insurance with them. The lady I spoke to was helpful, polite and efficient, she called me back as promised with a great price beating my existing broker’s quote by some 20% despite the policy being with the same company.
It is unusual to speak to a real human being rather than filling it endless details online, I was impressed by the simple but friendly way she handled my enquiry. The follow up was excellent too.

I was given the most competative premium. Only a slight increase on the previous years. In the past, previous insurers offered a rate and then reduce it when you are not satisfied.

Very easy to deal with over the phone and they're in a local office rather than some anonymous call centre. They didn't try on a large increase at my first renewal, as some companies do with captive markets. Only given 4 stars so far, because the proof of their worth will be if you ever have to make a claim, which I hope never to!

A month before my policy was due to expire I received a large number of missed calls along with several voice messages asking me to renew my policy. I'm not going to renew 4 to 5 weeks before my policy runs out. It may help the company's cashflow - but it doesn't help mine. There's a fine line between polite reminder and borderline pestering. One reminder by email is all that's necessary thank you very much. Apart from this small issue I have no complaints with APlan.
