We were given a gift of one night at the Albright Hussey Manor Hotel (high-street retail gift voucher scheme) and expected "the highest standards of comfort", words from their website. We were saddened to be directed to what appeared to be a 1980s wing where we were greeted by an overwhelming smell of air freshener. View from room: ground floor, overlooking four cars. Observations: cramped; room and decor tatty (see photographs) and in need of updating, in particular the bathroom; complementary home-made biscuits were out-of-date; bedroom walls/door very thin and we could hear everything - the room was next to the laundry and we could hear the washing machines, we could even hear the chap in the room next door going to the toilet; bedroom and corridor door slamming was very loud, making it difficult to sleep (especially when there is a wedding party in the hotel); wardrobe door would not fasten closed and was constantly open. A good point, the staff were friendly and helpful, especially the lady who served our breakfast on Sunday morning! In summary: cramped, tatty and noisy. We tolerated it for one night but would not return to this hotel.

Booked a room for one night on a Sunday to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. Was told on the phone we'd be in an exec double room with 4 poster bed. We were put in room 11 which is in the new part of the hotel. I believe the rooms in the original building are lovely but our room was really nothing special.
Went down for dinner at 7pm and was expecting the ala carte menu (a copy of this was in our room) but we were given the Sunday lunch menu. Food was OK, again very average. The waiter was a nice chap.
Breakfast the following morning was nice but don't order a poached egg, mine had a hard yolk and had obviously been left in too long.
Thin walls in the rooms - at 5-30 am I heard the person next door making her/him self a hot drink.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

We purchased an 8 course taster menu via Trazelzoo & decided to book overnight to make it more special. We only decided to book a room the day before & upon ringing the hotel direct was told that a room was available but it could be noisy due to wedding party. This alone impressed me as not many hotels are courteous enough to warn you of potential noise!

From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were friendly, attentive & courteous & special thanks must go to Malcolm for making our stay so pleasurable. Other hotels in the area should send their staff to the Albrighton Hussey to see how a hotel should be run.

Our room was furnished to a high quality & was well deserving of its 4 stars. The bathroom was modern with good facilities although if I was being picky it was a bit small.

The food was fabulous Malcolm even deviated from the taster menu to accommodate for me not liking two of the courses.

If you want a peaceful relaxing break in beautiful surrounding quality rooms & fabulous room then this hotel is for you.

We will definitely be returning to this hotel

Having purchased a chef's eight course taster menu from Travelzoo we decided to stay overnight rather than face a long drive. The hotel is a beautiful Tudor building in a rural location with good views all around. The main building has a terrace at the rear, lovely to sit and enjoy a glass of wine.

The room was compact but nicely and well-furnished (except for dreadful cheap-looking prints on the walls.) The bathroom was a good size. Soft furnishings and towels were of good quality and housekeeping throughout was very good.

The taster menu was well-presented and nicely cooked. Breakfast was very good.

Staff were friendly and efficient.

We would be happy to stay again.

We ahve stayed here a few times now for the odd night. We always have the Hussey Suite as it really is a treat for us. Four poster bath, four poster bed, lovely period room. This place is gorgeous! The food is amazing, the setting is pretty and the grounds are lovely. It is a wonderful place to visit and relax, and not too far from where we live either. Very happy to return here :) Slightly expensive, but in my experience you get what you pay for.

We have just returned from a wedding at the Hussey Manor, the staff were very attentive, happy and efficient..nothing was too much to ask.
The hotel itself, dating back to tudor times was amazing and the scenery would be hard to beat, both the hotel and views from the hotel to surrounding countryside. A superb wedding venue for anyone that is looking!
We would definitely go back.

This has to be my favourite hotel, from checking in to departure, the staff are so helpful and friendly.
Being a warm night, it was suggested I had a drink in the gardens before dinner. Beautiful gardens, well kept and very relaxing.
Dinner again was first class, even though I am here often, there is always something different to try.
Love the hotel, love the rooms, love the food, what more can I ask for!
The staff make it that little bit more special, well done! Back soon.

Spent two nights at this hotel whilst attending a friend's wedding. The room was comfortable and clean with plenty of tea, sugar etc. The manor itself is an amazing eclectic building set in immaculately maintained grounds. It has to be the most picturesque place I have ever stayed. We ate there a couple of months ago whilst on a recce and the food was superb. On Friday evening we sat on the terrace until late evening. The meal was served to a group of guests there for the wedding in the old part of the manor. The staff are attentive and very pleasant and we were lucky to have beautiful weather.
The wedding ceremony was conducted outdoors in the beautiful gardens followed by a meal in the main function room. The only have one wedding at a time so effectively you have virtually all of the premises at your disposal. Food was superb and beautifully cooked. We will be returning in the near future to spend another weekend and visit some of the local attractions.
Only one word of warning. Your sat nav may take you the wrong way off the island at the bottom of the road.

Stayed here using a Fresh Weekends voucher as this looked the nicest option.

We stayed in room 25 which was one of the rooms in the modern block. Whilst not particularly spacious, it was comfortable, kept at a pleasant temperature and the bathroom facilities were very good. A full sized kettle and nice filter coffee in the room were pleasant bonuses.

We ate in the excellent restaurant in the evening of our one night stay where the food was good (excepting the desserts which weren't up to the standards of the rest of the food). The service was attentive and polite without being overpowering or patronising.

Breakfast was high quality in terms of service and quality too.

Overall an excellent night away from our four boys!

Second time at the Albright, both occasions working as a videographer at weddings. Found the staff to be unbelievably helpful and accommodating even for non-guests that were working the venue. Food was excellent, personal experience was sandwiches and buffet but so many guests commented on quality and quantity it can't be ignored. the manager we dealt with (Paul) was extremely knowledgeable and couldn't do enough to ensure we managed to do everything the bride and groom requested of us - not something all venues aim to do. The hotel itself is superbly set, beautiful for photgraphic reasons and far enough off the beaten track to not worry about strangers in the way. The rooms (in the main part of the hotel anyway) are superb and very well furnished. A place I'd happily choose to stay having worked there myself.

Had our wedding day here on the 2nd of June. It's fair to say with all my wife's instructions, requests and high expectations, The Albright and its staff were put under a lot of pressure. We're extremely happy to say that they not only delivered but exceeded expectations. The wole day was amazing and the staff couldn't do enough. All our guests loved every second of the day and we couldn't of asked for anymore (literally ha). Food was great and catered for all guests special requirements, gardens we beautifully kept and immaculate, staff were brilliant and always had a smile on there face. Special thanks to Paul who's organisations skills were top notch and brought the whole event together. Thanks for a great day. Rob and Selina x

I stayed here for a wedding so it was only one night but I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The gardens are immaculate and the hotel is full of character. I stayed in the Regency suite at the top of the original part of the hotel. The room was spacious and en suite wad great. Breakfast was a buffet but very good nonetheless.

I stayed here with my husband after we had attended a wedding.

The wedding itself was absolutely beautiful, very well organised and in such a beautiful setting.

The food at both the wedding breakfast and the evening reception was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient.

The price of drinks at the bar was exhorbitant, there's no need to hike the cost up that high!

The room was disappointing, we had a room in the new part of the building, it was clean and tidy but quite small and very noisy.

There was a huge difference between what each couple got, one set of friends could hardly get round their bed whilst another had a suite and yet we all paid the same price, that was a little annoying,
The T.V was much smaller than you would expect in a hotel that charges those sort of prices.

Overall it is a beautiful place but make sure you get one of the better rooms if you can.

Must be the 5th time I've stayed here and again a great stay. Staff friendly and helpful and the same faces visit after visit.
Lovely room, good bed and good shower, the things that make life on the road so much better.
Dinner again first class, I love eating here, always something different to try. Thanks to all.

We booked this particular hotel as we had a Unique Hotels gift voucher and this was one of the ones listed. Located just outside Shrewsbury - What a Gem. Unfortunately for us we stayed in the 'new' part of the hotel, I would have liked to have seen the bedrooms in the original part of the building. However, the room was adequate, clean and had everything we needed. The staff were fantastic especially in the restaurant. There was a wedding on the day we stayed but you would not have known. We have stayed in much larger hotels than this one when there has been a wedding on and our stay has been totally ruined by the noise. Not on this occasion. The wedding guests were in another section of the hotel and there was no noise at all in the restaurant. My only criticism would be that the room menu was more extensive than the restaurant menu but the food was excellent and the service fantastic. Breakfast was good and unhurried. Checking in and checking out was quick and easy. Well done to everyone concerned. Will definitely stay here again.

My husband & I spent one night at the manor to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary...upon arrival we were greeted by Malcolm who instantly made us feel welcome and then he advised us that our double room had been upgraded to a suite which included a spa bath and four poster bed! Our check in was swift and once we'd got to our room we settled in...lovely room, spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished with beautiful views of the Shropshire rolling countryside including the swans in the moat....we went for pre dinner drinks in the lounge area...service was quick and we perused the menu at our leisure...we opted for the tasting menu upon recommendation...and we were not disappointed...7 courses which were beautifully presented and delicious....the right amount of time was left between courses and we enjoyed a lovely relaxing evening...our 1st wedding anniversary was certainly celebrated in style and I cannot recommend the hotel highly enough...We shall certainly return

We stayed here after being given a voucher for a free nights stay. The hotel was very quiet when we stayed but the service was impeccable, the food excellent and the room was lovely although as others have said the hotel is looking a bit dated but we've stayed in much worse. We would definitely recommend this hotel we had a wonderful night.

We stayed here because we had received a gift voucher as a present for Unique Places to stay. These in themselves are a damned sight harder to redeem than is made out in the voucher information so be warned if you have one!!
The old manor part is lovely but voucher holders appear to be put in a rather sterile annex with tatty bathrooms. Our first floor window looked out over the entrance which on the night we stayed was the main smoking area for the guests at the wedding reception being held there and attended by Shropshires finest chav's and possibly the world finest foul language experts!!! (previous reviews mention similar so it looks like its a regular wedding venue)
The breakfast was most excellent - enough said.

My wife & I went for a belated birthday celebration; dinner, B&B. The celebration was the meal and the hotel was a bonus.

Staff from the Manager down to the maids are very pleasant, hospitable, and helpful. Their service is outstanding.

I would think the owners would be looking to redoing the rooms before too long. Don't get me wrong, our room was clean and comfortable. It just seemed to me to be a bit dated.

The food in the restaurant is to die for!! I've eaten in places with Michelin stars that were not as good as this. The breakfast choices are very good, and unlike as noted in another review, ours was cooked to order rather than a buffet.

Give them a go, you will be more than pleasantly surprised!

I know we'll be returning!

The hotel itself is a beautiful manor house and guests stay generally in a modern extension. The staff and little touches like homemade biscuits and a robe in the rooms were excellent but considering the price the whole place needs updating. May have last been decorated in the early 90's and it shows. My only other issue was with the breakfast, there was no menu as the only choice was a buffet breakfast which was served on a table so wasn't the hotest. Overall lovely stay but is overpriced for what you get.

My family have been going to the albright hussey for over 2 decades now and so my hisband and I just knew that this was where we wanted to have our special day, but we could never have imagined the day that all the staff gave us.
With a marquee on the front lawn, Paul the owner went above and beyond anything we could have ever imagined. The food was out if this world and they had everything down to the last minute.
It really was a spectacular day and it was Paul and his staff who made it so special.
I truly beleive that we would never have had such a magical day if it was not for Paul and his staff.
Thank You sooo much everyone.

Our second stay the the hotel and we were equally thrilled. The service, cleanliness of the room and quality of the food were all superb. The duty manager was very cheerful, friendly and obliging. The maid had mistakenly put a mattress topper on the bed in place of the duvet. When I rang down about it, the duty manager came up with a proper duvet and placed it in the duvet cover straight away.
During the courses for the NYE gala dinner, I mentioned that I didn't want the Champagne iced course, and the duty manager (who was serving), promptly brought me a blackcurrant sorbet instead! There were 100 people to serve, so the kitchen must have been stretched,so I was very impressed with that. Another guest said that she couldn't eat a creme caramel with alcohol in, so the same duty manager, brought out two huges scoops of chocolate ice cream!
A good place to stay, although it has no leisure facilities!
